Re: Wisharts of Aberdeen

I realise your query is very old but if you have not already found any further data I have some details of John Wishart who married Ann Strath. I have about 5 generations of this branch of Wisharts, unfortunately none are connected to my branch, at least I haven't made the link yet. If you want any details please respond.

I don't have much info prior to William and Isabell(Parker) Wishart. My information is their son Thomas Married Barbra Spence,
Son James Married Elisabeth Amy (Eliza) Flett
Son James Joseph Wishart of Russel, Manitoba Married Margaret Mariane Gowler,
Son James Charles Wishart Married Ameia Margart Jenner,
Daughter Vera Margaret Married Harold Elgin Anderson of Silver Creek, Manitoba,
Son, me James Darcy Anderson.

The Information I have is that the James Wishart Son of Thomas Wishart had a large family and had planned to go into the Dakota's during the gold rush in the Black hills. I understand one son (James) and a daughter were left in Winnipeg with relatives. It is assumed the rest of the family were kill in the Dakota's by the indians (Some information relates of possible capture and integration with the natives.
Their son James married Eliza Flett and moved to Alberta homesteading in Rosebud. Although most of their family went west with them one son James Joseph Wishart stayed in Manitoba and eventually he ended up in Russel Manitoba. He was my Great Grandfather.

I hope this helps you.

James wishart left 2 children in Manitoba and left to look for gold in the black hills. Its my understanding that the family with the exception of the 2 children left behind were killed by the indians (some of the children may of been held and raised by the indians). One of the children left in Manitoba later settled in Alberta. If you know of Wishart ties to Russell, Manitoba or Rosebud, Alberta please contact me.

I haven't seen your message before, but the Leslie George Wishart you mention below is my late father-in-law, who was born in Brown's Town in St Anns, Jamaica. We have just found him on a passenger list from 4 June 1943, when he travelled from Jamaica to New Orleans.

One of these days we will have to do some proper research into this wonderful family of ours.

All the best

Lloyd and Tina Wishart
London

Sorry, but I now think my Helen Leonora Vaughan is NOT the same person as Helena Vaughan who married your Alexander Wishart. According to 2001 census your Helena was 28, born Middlesex. [She was probably the Helena, 19, servant, born Mayfair MDX, in the 1891 census.] My Helen was born Kidwelly Wales, at boarding school, age 14 in 1891 - and I can't find her in 1901 in England or Wales; most likely she had married.
Apologies for starting false hopes...
Phil

Wishart Family in New Zealand

Mother-Margaret Isabel Wishart (Moore) born 20/9/1918 in Auckland, Father-Paul Wynne Wishart(born in Hertford England in 1909, died 1959 in Tauranga NZ).
Had 6 children, Anne, Catherine, Judith, John, Scott, Guy.
Paul Wynne Wishart's parents-Mother-Lilian Mary Wishart, Father-George Wishart.
Lilian moved to Canada after WW1 with a Canadian soldier, her children after Paul were fathered by a musician who is unknown to us. The musician died during WW1 and Lilian convinced George to return to NZ with Paul, taking the rest of her family to Montreal, Canada.
George originally came out to New Zealand in about 1910-13 with the hope that his wife Lilian would be able to follow him there, but this was not possible and neither was it facilitated by other members of the family in England.
We have met our Canadian family who are extremely nice.
We have yet to meet any of the English Wishart's or their relatives-can anyone help?

Hi Jack
Thank you for your reply. My husband's grandmother was Mabel Wishart, from the Manitoba Canada branch of the family. I know that there has been a lot of work done on this part of the clan! Will get the info back to you in the spring as we are heading to warmer climate of California and Arizona for 3 months.
Regards
Gail

Hi

Having had some interest in tracking all the early Wisharts in New Zealand, I have had occasion to record one or 2 details of your family but not necessarily the information you are seeking.

George married Lillian Mary Cooke and the marriage is registered in Ware for the June quarter of 1909. Hertford and Ware are just a few Km apart. There are 3 children registered to that couple, the eldest being Paul in the December quarter of 1909 but there are 2 more, Graham S in the December qtr of 1912 and Betty N in the June qtr of 1916. There are 2 other births of interest where the mother's maiden name is Cooke but that may be a coincidence, 1 being a Guy W in Sept qtr of 1911 possibly in London or Kent, and the other being Gerald N in Camberwell, London in the March qtr of 1914.

If you wish to make contact and want any help, my email is nadgw@xtra.co.nz

Wisehard? I haven't seen that spelling of it before.

My Wishards --> Wisharts came out of Cumberland/Franklin Co, PA and moved to Washington Co, PA (Chartiers Twp). The two brothers who made this move was James and John.

The one brother, James, moved with his two sons, James and John, to Trumbull --> Mahoning Co, OH (Poland Twp) in about 1803. From there, I have an extensive and almost complete list of descendants (always the work in progress) from the son, James. The other son, John, went to KY.

John Wishard and Agnes Hilton had James, John, Joseph, Agnes "Nancy", Edward, and Mary.

- James married Elizabeth Yost (my line - 4 daus, 2 sons)
- John married Sarah Stewart - never checked this line
- Joseph married 'Unknown' and had daughter Jean Wishard (only child)
- Agnes married (James? Crooks?)
- Edward married Ann 'Unknown' and had a son John Wishard (et al)
- Mary, unknown what happened to her

Thats about all I know at this time, hopefully it will give you an idea of where to look and who to look for. The Wishards in that area are pretty exclusive (and elusive at this point for me). Always investigate thoroughly and draw your own conclusions.

Kevin

I'm interested to know if you have anything on a John Wishard (d. Feb 1778)who came to America about 1744/1745 with this wife Agnes (d. Mar 1793) from Ireland and had children by the names of Joseph, Edward, Mary, Nancy (Agnes), James, and John.

They lived in Franklin Co, Pennsylvania.

John Wishard and his wife were said to be natives of Ireland. Since this touches your area of the world, I thought I would ask you.

BTW: Been to the wishart.org site a few times over the past several years. My grandmother was a Wishart and her family was very much into genealogy, generations back even. I guess the 'gene' part of it passed down to me.

Dear Mr Kenney

You might think I am being presumptious and I think you would be right.

My name is Jack Wishart. I was born in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland and I now live in Edinburgh, in Scotland. Since 1974 I have been collecting genealogical data on Wisharts/Wishards/Wiseharts et al. Today I have more than 18500 individual people recorded, some going back to the 1600s and many from North America and Australasia.

I would be delighted to receive from you (preferably in electronic format) the tree you must have produced by now, so that I may add the Wisharts in it into my database. I would be happy for all non-Wisharts, other than spouses of Wisharts, to be removed from the tree as I concdentrate only on those born Wishart.

It goes without saying that I would pass on to you all I have which relatres to your tree. However, I have a feeling that your tree might have German roots, in which case I would have little if anything to pass back to you.

If you are sufficiently generous to send me your Wishart tree, please do so directly to me email address of wishartjac@aol.com.

I hope I hear from you soon.

Jack
