Laverne Lester Wissinger
Laverne Lester Wissinger, Sr., 73 of Brookville, died Thursday, December 15, 2011.
Born September 25, 1938 in Butler, he was a son of the late Lawrence Henry and Mabel (Deoor) Wissinger.
On September 9, 1978 he married the former Deborah Ann Jewark. She survives.
Laverne had previously worked as a laborer at a sawmill, and had also worked for Brookville Wood Products.
He enjoyed hunting, baseball and sports. He had also helped out with teener league baseball in the past.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Wissinger; six children: Laverne Lester Wissinger, Jr of Saxonburg, Wendy Richards of Washington County, PA; Scott Henry Wissinger, Bryan Wissinger of Saxonburg, Kristy Bryant and husband Henry of South Carolina and Shane Justin Wissinger of Reynoldsville; thirteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; one brother, Roger Wissinger and wife Marsha of Saxonburg; and two sisters, Betty Burke of Butler and Blanche Rome of Herman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Maxine, Jean and Thelma Parr, and a brother, Herman Wissinger.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Brenda D. Shumaker Funeral Home in Brookville, with Pastor Rex Slaughter officiating.
