Actually, all you have to do is google the address, and you will see that is on Archer. It is no longer there. I believe some of my family photos were taken there. I was interested in the name Witkowski. I have no concrete info, but someone said maybe that might be the name of my great-grandmother's maiden name/ or Skrzypiec. I am looking for the second wife of my great-grandfather Plachta. I don't even know his first name, but they had two daughtets named Mary (Cwiek) and Bernice M. (Jankowski). Cwiek and Jankowski are their married names. Michigan is the state of I was looking for them. is there a way you can show the photo. not that I would recognize them, but maybe someone else reading this would. Good luck.

Rose Merlak Witkowski - Chicago, IL

Peter Francis Rutkowski was born November 26, 1870 in Slup, West Prussia, to Peter Witkowski and Joanna Klucznik. He was baptized in Grutta Parish.

Peter arrived in the U.S. in 1892 and came to Chicago where he lived with his Rutkowski relatives.

Peter (age 36) and Rose (age 27) did not have children. The 1910 Census indicates it is the first marriage for both. Not sure what happened to their marriage. Peter lists himself as a widower in the 1920 and 1930 Censuses, yet I cannot locate a death record for Rose. Peter died in Chicago on April 21, 1936.

NOTE: Peter's aunt, Marianna Witkowski Rutkowski, is my great, great grandmother.

Re: Witkowski - Wutkowski

Hi Larry. Here is the information that I also posted to Jenny.

My cousin, Drey, and I have been working together on this branch of our tree. Ferdinand Wutkowski (DOB Nov 1824) and Mary (Martinski?) (DOB Nov 1835) had at least four children: Michael Wutkowski (5 Oct 1850), Eva Wutkowski (18 Oct 1856), Julianna Wutkowski (21 Jun 1862), and Franz (Frank) Stanlislaw Wutkowski (8 Jul 1867). All were born in Poland/Germany.

Michael married Anna Sobieski in Poland and traveled to the U.S. aboard the Neckar coming from Bremen. It arrived 3 Dec 1883. They can be found under the family name "Wutkofski". They traveled with their children "Wl" (Wladyslaw or Walter Frank), Bonislawa (Bertha), Marianna (or Mary Anna), Johann, Michael's sister Juliana, and Marcin Opalewski ("Opollfski"). This can be found on the 1820 to 1957 New York passenger lists on ancestry.com.

Subsequent children born to Michael and Anna Wutkowski include Martin, Martha, Anna, and Catharina (Kadia) Weronika. Some of them were born in Pennsylvania. Catharina was born 4 May 1894 in Milwaukee, WI. The 1930 census seems to indicate birthplace of her father (i.e. Michael Wutkowski) as "Goschald Ker Graudens".

Although Marcin (Martin) Opalewski and Julianna Wutkowski were traveling together, I have not found their marriage record. It is probably in Tioga County, Pennsylvania since that is where their children were born (based on census records and death records). Their children's names were as follows: Joannes (John), Joseph F., Mary, Clara, Stanley J., Helen, and Edward Max Opalewski. They appear to have migrated to Milwaukee, WI ca. 1905.

Eva Wutkowski, daughter of Ferdinand and Mary Wutkowski, married Frank Szeklinski. They had at least 5 known children: Helen (27 May 1881), Frank (ca 1884), Joseph John (5 mar 1885), Bronislaus (ca 1890), Louis Julian (18 Sep 1890), and Stanislaus (Stanely; 3 Jun 1898). These children also appear to have been born in Pennsylvania per census records. I have not found a death record for Frank Szeklinski. However, Eva and her children also migrated to Milwaukee, WI. They can be found in the 1905 Milwaukee, WI census. Eva is listed as married. However, her husband is not listed. Per the 1910 Milwaukee, WI census, she is listed as widowed.

Franz (Frank) Stanlislaw Wutkowski, son of Ferdinand and Mary, married Rozalia Fexer. His death record indicates he was born in Jankowitz Kr Graudenz, Poland/Germany. Frank Wutkowski and Rozalia Fexer had at least 7 known children: Clara Dorothy, Mary (Maria), Franz, Child of (born and died on 28 Apr 1905), Weronika, Anton, and John (Johann).

Again, at least Michael Wutkowski, Julianna Wutkowski Opalewski, and Eva Wutkowski Szeklisnki appear to have spent five to ten years in the Tioga Co, Pennsylvania area. Two towns in particular have come up: Antrim and Bloss (or Blossburg).

Ferdinand Wutkowski was living with his son Michael per the 1900 Milwaukee, WI census. At the same time, Ferdinand's wife Mary Wutkowski was living with their son Frank (Wudkowsky). This census indicates year of emmigration as 1889. The number of years of marriage and the year of emmigration match for Ferdinand Wutkowski and Mary Wutkowski (although they were living with different children). Ferdinand "Wodkowski" is later living with daughter Eva Szeklinski and her children per the 1910 Milwaukee, WI census.

Does any of this information tie in with your Wutkowski information? Hi Jenny. It's nice to hear from you.

We have some additional descendant information.
Hi Jenny. It's nice to hear from you.

Do you have any information regarding John? Do you know if he was born in Poland? I have a great uncle that I met while I was in Poland in the 1980s. He was the youngest brother of my grandfather. I know that he had a lot of children, however, I really don't remember their names. We did however meet his wife but I don't remember her name either. Grandfather came from Lomza and came to Warsaw to meet us. We were going there but we were in the process of adopting a young boy and had to stay in Warsaw for business. I do know that did not leave Poland. He was only three or four months old when his parents died and he inherited their farm because the other boys came to America. Who actually knows maybe he is the John Carol

I always guessed it was when he was in the Merchant Marines or sometime. Per the 1910 census the name was spelled Niczienski.

Great Another family link.

Are you still in NJ or another state. My fater spelled Misinsky with a "Y" but his brother, also a Joseph, spelled it with an "i".

Mary and Joseph had 3 children, Joseph jr, Mary and Peter who is my father.
I don't have any family with the name Wutkowski, but mine did come from the same area of Poland. Family names in Poland were Witkowski, Zielinski and Suwalski. A related family, Wanta, also came from that area. They came to the U.S. about 1880, first to Buffalo, NY, then to Portage Co. in Wisconsin. My line is the Witkowski family.

I will write to my connection in the archives in Poland to see if I can get more information on any of the names you gave me. I have found some from Szczawin, some from Janopol ( or something close to that ) and a few others that I cant name off the top of my head. I am hoping that we may be of some benefit to each other. In any case, I'm babbling so I'll get to the point. My gg grandmother ( I think thats right ) Lucya Witkowski and her daughter Wladyslawa were born in Szczawin about 30 miles north of Warsaw and I'm thinking that we might be related. From your post stating that Rozalia was born in 1832, and if we are talking about the same family, then Lucya would most likely be her daughter or neice, as Lucya was born around 1860 or so. If this sounds like someone in your tree and would like to share information, please let me know. Thanks.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I'm always glad to hear from someone researching names similar to mine. My Rozalia Witkowski was born 21 Aug 1932 in Szczawin Borowy, Parish Suserz, Gostynin, Poland. She had a sister, Lucya, born in 1834 in the same location. She also had brothers: Jozef b.1837 and Benedykt b.1839. I don't know who they married, where they lived or whom their children are. The geographical area my ancestors are from is west of Warsaw. Witkowski is a more common name in Poland, but still, you have to wonder..... Let me know if you think there is a connection.

Nolan - looks like we are definitely talking about the same family - although I have some different information. Would love to contact you and see what info you have (and how we are related). I have found John Witkowski and family on the 1920 and 1930 census. I have a family tree going on Geni.com and would love to invite you.

I am Thomas Martin - my mother, Rose Catherine Witkowski, daughter of the Alexander Witkowski. Fantastic that you have info on the Moryto side. I have been struggling with a bad spelling I had (Maryto). Hope you are still on e-mail.

Thank you very much for contacting me.
However, I don't think this is going to be a connection.
My dad (Leo Witkowski) was born in Shenandoah PA and I don't have very much history at all on my grandparents except for their names. To my knowledge the family lived primarily in the Shenandoah area. I am trying to locate surviving family members whom I have never met by the way.
I don't have alot to go by and am just starting my search.
My dad was born in 1909 but I don't have any other birth info. on other family members. Thanks, Dennis.
