Looking for any information on John H. Witte who would have been born in the 1820's near Minden Prussia and who came to U.S. with mother and siblings. Landed New Orleans, went to St. Louis, then Washington co., Illinois. John is said to have joined the Army and became a Captain in the Artillery. He is said to have gone to California and never been heard from by family members. Am a descendant of his brother, Conrad F. Witte who settled in Texas. Thanks, Tom R.
