I am searching for Elsbeth Wittwer who married Abrah Zurcher. She was born ca 1728 in Trub, Switzerland.
They had a son Christian Zurcher, born 15 Aug 1755 Trub and died 30 Apr 1810 Trub. Married Barbara Jakob 8 May 1795 in Trub.
Who are the parents of Elsbeth Wittwer and her husband Abrah Zurcher?

They did emigrate to the USA and Johannes changed his name to John Whitver. I would be happy to hear from you. I will get out my notes since I have more information then is listed on my website The Pratt Family of West Virginia. Thanks for your response. I sent you an email.

I am still looking into the Wittwer Family. I have full records from marriage of Hans Wittwer (Trub, Kanton Bern) in 1765. He has some decendants called Johannes Wittwer.Some have vanished and may have emigrated to the USA.

I've just seen your post about the Wittwer coat of arms. Could you send a copy my way please. My family (Charles (aka Carl)Otto Moreland Wittwer)came from Berne, Switzerland in 1857 to Wayne Co. Ohio and then on to Berne, Indiana. Thank you.

It's been a while since any activity on this thread...was wondering if you ever developed more info on Johannes Wittwer? Believe I am descended from his son Gottlieb Wittwer (1847). My relative Gottlieb was born in Switzerland around 1847, married a woman named Elizabeth in 1867, came over to US in 1872. First settled in Ohio for a couple years, then settled in Chicago.
Do you have any new info on Johannes or his wife Elizabeth Tschanz? Do you know if any of his other children came to the US?

Would it be possible to get a copy of the Wittwer Coat of Arms Please. I cannot seem to find a good one on here, my email is wittwerd77@cox.net I appreciate your help. Also where are the best sights to research my family better, I dont know to many of them, since I never really knew them I know my Uncles name, my grandmothers name and my dads, but that is pretty much it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for info on August and Selma(Ginter) Wittwer. They came from Germany(Prussia) on a ship called the "Antwerp" on April 4, 1870. They settled in Philadelphia, PA. They had 8 children, Rose(Weilenbeck), Emma Kern, Gert Haslem, Selma Schmidt, Clare Keegan, Elsie Held, Violet Piper, Edith Elwood and Willie(died on the ship on the way over).
I am looking for their parents or any brothers and sisters, or their home town.

Benedicht Carl Wittwer was born 30 Oct 1833 in Aeschi Speiz, Canton Bern, Switzerland. He emigrated to the United States on the Ship "Germania" arriving in New York 25 June 1866. He came with his wife Anna, b. abt 1838 They had the following children on ship with them:
Friederich Wittwer b. 1859 Aeschi
Rosa Wittwer b. 1860 Aeschi
Elise Wittwer b. 1862 Aeschi
Johannes b. abt Dec 1865 Switzerland

Benedicht's brother Peter and his family were also on the ship Germania with him.

They were the sons of Peter Wittwer and Maria Margaretha Gasser of Aeschi Bei Speiz. Peter was the brother of my direct ancestor Elizabeth Wittwer, who came to the United States on the SAME ship in June of 1857.
Peter's parents were Abraham Wittwer and Anna Wuthrich of
Canton Bern, Belp, Switzerland. Abraham was born 1740-50 in Switzerland. We have a living relative in Switzerland!!! His name is Hans Wittwer, a retired cartographer, and part time genealogist.

I am trying to find any information on my gg grandfather who immigrated from Switzerland. I don't have names for his parents or know where in Switzerland he came from. This is what we know:

d. Jan 31 1883 Jewell County, Kansas
married Anna Breckbuhl in Switzerland
b. July 18 1838 Switzerland
d. Oct 5, 1911 Jewell County, Kansas

They may have had a son John before immigrating.

Thanks for your message. I don't have much information on Johannes. I am descended from his son, Christian Wittwer (1838-1907). Christian came to the United States for a while, but returned to the "old country." Christian had several siblings: Jacob (1840), John (1842), Carl (1844), Fred (1845), Gottlieb (1847), Gottfried (1849), Marianna (1850). Perhaps you are descended from one of them.

I made a mistake; it was land that belonged to Michigan and Ohio needed a port on the Lake so after much fighting over it, the US gov't gave the strip of land to Ohio and then gave Michigan the "worthless" Upper Peninsula. Of course, Michigan got the best of the deal. .

My grandfather, Adolf Wittwer, came from Bern, Switzerland . He was born in 1885. I do have a copy of the coat of arms that was brought to the USA by a family member. I'm curious if the others that answered your query are the same or similar. Can you please describe? The Wittwer family that I come from settled in northern Wisconsin in the early 1900's.My father's mother died in the early 1930's. Her name was Lydia Mellenburger (sp?) I know nothing abpout her side except they were probably from central Wisconsin. If anyone should know of any conection to the Wittwer family, it would be greatly appreciated!

I found the first U.S. census mention of the Plumbecks in 1870 LaPorte, Indiana. From the 1900 Census which gives immigration year the family came from Germany in 1865. The birthplace in Germany was Mecklenburg. Other directories in LaPorte give the spelling of the name "Plammbock" and "Plamboeck". Family oral history has the family immigrating from Berlin which has never been in Mecklenburg but they might have moved from a rural area to the city in Germany before immigrating. With the vague locations and variety of spellings it has been a challenge to trace. Hope to hear from you again. Naomi
