Jennifer...my email is klo5@comcast.net. Feel free to contact me there.
I don't know how much I can help with this family...William DeWitt Wohlfarth (Richard and Gilbert's brother) was married to Ruth Packer, and I am related through the Packers. Dewitt was a close friend of my grandfather Karl Hoffsommer, as well, and my grandparents often visited Ruth and Dewitt in Florida after their retirement, and decades earlier when they lived in Pittsburgh. I do have some letters to my grandmother from Ruth.
Interestingly enough I have many other Wohlfarths in my tree, though, and it might be interesting to compare notes. I have so far not been able to find a link between the Wohlfarth families I have in my tree, but that doesn't mean it isn't there!
Kathy Taylor O'Hara

Beuckemann / Wohlfarth in Kansas

Frank Beuckemann, a sterling citizen of Alexandria Township, and proprietor of Plantation Farm, which is located nine miles southwest of Leavenworth on the LeCompton Road, was born in St. Louis, Missouri, August 14, 1854, the son of Frederick and Minnie Beuckemann.

Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Beuckemann were natives of Germany, the former was born July 3, 1810 and the latter, September 3, 1821.

They came to Lawrence in 1864 where they lived for one year, when they settled on the farm where Frank Beuckemann now lives. When they moved to this place, there were but two or three houses between their home and Leavenworth. A cabin stood where the residence is now located, but has been moved and is now used as a stable. Frederick Beuckemann died January 21, 1878 and his wife died March 18, 1904. Both are buried at Bethel Cemetery.

Frank Beuckemann now owns 130 acres of upland land. He has a well improved place and does general farming. In 1907 he built his present home, a one and one half story dwelling. From this residence, on a clear day, can be seen the city of McLouth, which is seventeen miles southwest of his home. They also have a fine view of the Stranger Creek valley.

Mr. Beuckemann was married April 20, 1896 to Mary Wohlfarth, a daughter of Lorenz and Margaret Wohlfarth of Alexandria Township, who settled there in 1881. Lorenz Wohlfarth died in March 1919 at the age of 79 years and his wife died August 3, 1908. Both are buried at Bethel Cemetery.

The children of Mr. and Mrs. Lorenz Wohlfarth are: Mrs. Beuckemann; Mrs. Maggie Bente of Farley, Missouri; John, who lives on the home place; Mrs. Minnie Tuttle, of High Prairie Township; and Simeon Wohlfarth of Alexandria Township. Mr. Beuckemann has one sister, Mrs. Augusta Hall of Leavenworth.

Transcribed from History of Leavenworth County, Kansas, Jesse A. Hall, Topeka, 1921, p.463

Wohlfarth Family in Wurtemberg

My husband came to Canada in 1967 from the province of Wurtemberg in Germany and still retains his German citizenship, His mother, Marta's, maiden name is Wohlfarth. Her family had a small farm in Kaisersbach, about 45 minutes from Stuttgart. She always told a story about two uncles who emigrated to the U.S., to Portland, Oregon prior to WWII and how her family would send parcels from Germany to help these uncles to get started. Then, during the war, these uncles sent parcels to them to help out while her brothers were in the service. They lost touch after the war and my research seems to place these uncles in Mexico with another branch of the family named Schollhammer. If any of this sounds familiar in any way, please contact me at: weller@interlynx.net. Also, there is a world renowned Canadian professor of art named Harry Wohlfarth, born Carl Heinz Wohlfarth, who passed away in the autumn of 1996 at age 75. He was born in Oberstdorf, the town next to my mother-in-law's. He is one of several color theorists who studied which colors should be used in certain rooms to create calm, for example, classrooms, bedrooms, libraries etc. I am trying to find out if he is related as he studied in Germany and Mexico before lecturing at the University of Alberta.

With thanks, Maggie Weller

Jennifer,
How exciting--I think we must be related. My great-grandfather was Christian Frederick Wohlfarth, who came to this country in the mid-1840s from Wachbach, which is only three kilometers from Mergentheim. Most of the correspondence we have was posted in Mergentheim. He had a number of siblings who came to this country, including twin brothers Johann Georg and Georg Kaspar. In the family Bible, it says my great-great-grandfather's name was Kaspar, but a woman I met in Mergentheim has been doing some research and she has it as Johann Leonhard.
My great-great-grandfather was a baker.
Will be happy to share anything I have uncovered--which isn't as much as I would like. Do you have any data on the Germany end of the family history?

Was working on my family history and came across your message. My family has a Donna J. Wohlfarth, dtr. of Richard and Kathleen in the Harrisburg area. I'm unsure of her age, and want to stress that I don't have much info on her and have never met her. As of 1979 in her mother's obit her last name was Zeiders. There are phone listings for D.J. Zeiders in Elliottsburg, Harrisburg, Lemoyne and Mechanicsburg. Don't know if any of them is a Donna, or even if a Donna is your Donna, but thought this might be some help. Kathy

My Wohlfarth family came to this country in the 1840s and were bakers who settled in New York. It was apparently a family profession. Letters I have from Germany, written in 1846, were sent from Mergentheim. My great-great-grandfather was Frederick Caspar Wohlfert. Are we related?
