I know this is 10 years after the original post, but maybe you are still out there. I am descended from the Oliver Wolcott 1761-1845 that you were researching, through his son Charles born in 1798. I know that Charles took his family to Wisconsin sometime between 1850 and 1865, but after that the only information we have is through obituaries collected by my grandmother in the early 1900's. Charles' brother Lewis also went to Wisconsin. Found his grave recently while trying to find Charles or his descendents. Do you have any information on Charles?

Sarah or Sally Wolcott, b. 1816 NY, md. Robert H Armour abt 1835, d. 18 Sept 1852

Looking for information or possible leads on the wife of Robert H. Armour. I only have three records of her. The first is a census record: 1850, Menomenee, Waukesha, Wisconsin. It lists her as Sally Armor, 34, Female, born in NY. Her husband was born in Pennsylvania, and so was their first child, born in 1835, which makes me think that her family probably moved to Pennsylvania sometime between her birth and marriage.

The second source I have is her tombstone, attached. It's located in West Granville Cemetery, Milwaukee county, Wisconsin. It reads: Sally, Wife of Robert H. Armour, died Sept. 18, 1852, aged 36 years.

The third source is a marriage record for her son, Augustus Martillis Armour. It was his second marriage, and late in life, and he was only about four years old when his mother died, but his mother's name listed is "Sarah Wolcut".

The names of Sally's children might offer some clue as well. She named them, in order: Louisa, Hamilton Luke (the Hamilton name is common on the Armour side), Lorinda M, Sidney Barrett, Agnes, Martin R, Augustus Martillis, and Harriet. Especially interesting are the names of Sidney Barrett and his brother Augustus Martillis, there aren't any relatives on the Armour side of the family with those names, and they seemed to follow a tradition of naming their children after relatives.

Any even remote clues are welcome.

Thanks

I am trying to establish a connection in my ancestry. I am descended from Joseph Lindsay (1793-1873) and Olive Wolcott through their son William Alexander Lindsay (1824-1905). I have not been able to find anything to document that William was their son. They lived in Cobourg, Canada, where William was born, then moved to Kane Co., Illinois. Any help documenting this link would be greatly appreciated!!

Loren Perry Wolcott 1836-1913, was son of Oliver Wolcott 1794-1850, son of Oliver Wolcott 1761-1845, son of Oliver Wolcott 1724-1802, son of Nathaniel Wolcott 1700-1743, son of John Wolcott c.1660-c.1760, son of John Wolcott 1660-c.1750, son of John Wolcott 1635-1690 of Brookfield, MA, possibly distantly related to Oliver Wolcott the Declaration signer, but definately not a descendant. It is common to find family stories in many Wolcott families that they are descended from the signer, but that Oliver Wolcott has only a half a dozen male Wolcott descendants living today.
Caleb Wolcott 1792-1868 and his wife Mary Ann 1801-1847 are buried in the Methodist Cemetery at Dover DE, with their children Emma, 1825-1845, Mary Eliza 1832-1854, and Martina R. 1840-1842, He may well have had a second wife as Mary Ann died 21 years before him, but in 1860 he was living alone in a hotel at Smyrna DE. He had at least 4 sons and one other daughter, one son was named Levin or Levin, born 1823, and one named John Ryder 1835-1908. He is said to have been a veteran of the War of 1812, so you might see if you can find veterans records.

Thank you for contacting me.

As noted in your records, David L. Woodin is a descendant of the prominent immigrant, Henry Wolcott of Windsor, CT, through his son, George Wolcott of Wethersfield, CT.

I am descended from another immigrant, John Wolcott of Watertown, MA, who was a third cousin to Henry Wolcott of Windsor, CT. In this respect, you and I are distant cousins, with a most recent common ancestor in Thomas Wolcott of Tolland, England, who was born about 1500.

The "Delaware" Wolcott line of the initial query to this thread is believed to be from the John Wolcott of Watertown, MA line.

If you have not already done so, you can access much information on the Wolcott family at the website of the Wolcott Family Society, www.wolcottfamily.com. On this site, you can find Alanson Wolcott/Walcott, and other members of your Wolcott line, under the link for "Henry Wolcott of Windsor, CT" through his son "George Wolcott".

Hi! My name is Kathy and I could help you out. I am on the Eatontown Historcial Committee and the Wolcott were Quaker's along with the founder of Eatontown (Thomas Eaton) who came down from Shrewsbury, NJ to find running water to have his own Mill. Anyway Thomas is buried at the Quaker Cemtary and if you contact me off the list I can give you the phone number to call. The Quaker's had a school house which was one mile down from there church, and the house is still standing and I know the people who live in it.
Oliver Wolcott the signer is my uncle. We share the same grandfather, Simon Wolcott.

Simon Wolcott's fifth child, Henry is my direct descendant. :) I noticed you have only one child listed (Henry). Simon and Martha Pitkin had nine children. Roger, Simon's youngest son is the father of Oliver Wolcott the signer. Henry was Oliver's uncle.

Thank you for posting the family line - I can provide the information you need for the gaps you have. I wish that the woman who posted about Oliver Starr Wolcott (my great-uncle) would see my message because she's the missing link on cousins I don't know.

You can e-mail me at scully_3 at yahoo dot com.

Dana :)

Dear Amy:

I feel so bad about not checking back with this board over the past several years. I think I just gave up after finding the information I needed. However, there was always a hole in my family's recent history that I never understood.

Your grandfather Oliver Starr Wolcott is my great-uncle. His brother, Harvey Manley Wolcott, is my grandfather. I had occasionally heard stories about the Wolcotts that lived up in Oregon, but I never knew why we weren't in contact with them.

I'm hoping you'll see this, but since it's been so long, it might be a lost cause. But, in the chance that you do, hopefully you'll respond.

Dana Wolcott

I know that this message is a bit old, but I would be interested in contacting any of you with connections to the Wolcotts of Monmouth Co. NJ.

My great great grandfather (Charles Henry Wolcott) left Monmouth Co. NJ to resettle near Talbot Co. MD with his wife and children in 1875. His father was George Benjamin Wolcott of Eatontown NJ who had 7 sons and 4 daughters: John, Goerge, Daniel, Charles Henry (my great great grandfather), William, Benjamin, Tom, Emma, Hester, Fan, and Elizabeth.

Hi! I,too, am a direct decendent of Oliver Wolcott. My father's name was Joe Oliver Wolcott and his father's was James M. Wolcott. I'm have been trying for years to make the connection to Oliver Wolcott, signer of the Declaration of Independence. I think, with this posted message of yours, I've finally made the connection. Will try to find the book you suggested. Any more information would be appreciated.
