Mildred E. Wolf

Needing some help from Wolf geneologists of the Maj. Jacob Wolf line.

My husband's grandmother Ruth Irene (Inman) Fackler had some letters in her possesion when she died concerning the Woodcock family history. Ruth's mother was Samantha Ellen Woodcock. Samantha died in Florida in Jul 1966. She was the daughter of Polly (Langston) Woodcock Hivey. Samantha was Modena Francis and Polly Francis daughter.

Anyway back to the letter. The letter stated that Polly was practically raised by her Grandmother Mildred E. (Wolf) Livingston. It specifically stated in the letter that Mildred was the sister of "Col. Jacob Wolf" of the big log building in Arkansas fame. I can find no information on Mildred at all.

There were some other papers that stated Polly's parents were John Langston and Rebecca (Livingston) Langston. Rebecca's parents were Aaron Livingston and Mildred E. (Wolf) Livingston.

All of the other facts that were in the letter have proved true except the Mildred question. And that being the case, I tend to lean to beleive this one too, except I can't prove it.

Any help would be so much appreciated. Please post, message or email at shaunafackler@att.net with any info. Of course if I can be any help to you I will.

Shauna

Hi Bob, I believe we have spoken before. Was going over old posts because I recently went to Loudonville, Ohio to view the graves of Isaac, Nancy, Warring, Sarah and a few others. We had a very nice drive through Amish country and I actually met another Wolf at the local Cafe. There are a lot of Wolf's still there. We don't live far from each other, I live in Grand Blanc Twp. in Michigan and your wife, descended from Boston and I from his brother Orsamaus. Would love to talk again.

Hello David, I was reading your post this morning. We are distant cousins. Last week my family and I traveled to Loudonville, Ohio to visit the graves of my gr gr grandparents, Isaac and Nancy Wolf. My brother and I are gr grandchildren of their son Orsamus Wolfe. There weren't very many children in that family so I think I'm the only one doing research on his side. Warring and his wife Sarah are buried next to his parents. Orsamus and his wife Pamela Fuller had 3 sons. They lived near Boston wolfe before his death, in Michigan. His son Albert Frederick Wolfe was my grandfather. A distant cousin recently sent me photos which I was thrilled to get but haven't verified. If you have any photos to share, I would love to see them. I am researching the possibility of there being native american on nancy's side. The pictures of Orsamus and his mother and sister show definite traits and there is a letter from another cousin stating she was told by a grandmother that this was kept secret. The area in Beaver county was home to many of the 6 Iroquois nations. Would be good to talk to you and share knowledge. I'm named after Pamela, My mother was Pamela Fuller Wolfe.

Deanna, I think that in German, 'Herr' means something like "Mister". The Herr Wolf that Willi on the other board referred to was Hans-Jürgen Wolf, who apparently owns the web site http://www.westpreussen.de . I assume that somewhere on that site is an e-mail link that will allow you to contace Herr Wolf.

Regards,
Chuck

We used ftdna.com

Go there and order the one you want...we did the yDNA 67 test. It was a little pricey, but I feel it was worth it. The 23andme test is higher, but I think it tests deeper. There are still a few more tests we can do at ftDNA, but I am having to be a little tight now, so have put it on hold.

There are several others - 23andme.com, etc. Most have a way to compare to their databases, but you can always upload your date to ysearch.org and compare there to a much larger database. You can also get involved in the World Families web site which has a group about Wolfe/Woolf/Wolf families and DNA.

http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Woolf

You will have to test a male from the Wolfe line for yDNA results. Do like I did and get this done before the last male in your Wolfe line passes, else it will be too late.

Re: Adam Wolf WV Hardy Co

Adam was married to Sophia from Hardy Co. His nickname was Padie. You will find on a map a Padies Mountain and also another mountain over that way named Sophia's Mountain. They were spelled various ways on different maps Paddy Padies Sophenes Sophia. There is also a Padies Run and a Sophines Lick. A popular place called the Cove is Padies Cove. There is also a Wolfs Gap nearby but that is actually named after the animals that were found there, wolves. The real thing. Adam had some BIG land grants that got sold for pennies later. Darn.

My relatives in Hardy Co told me that Adam arrived first, prior to 1776, here in the US and that he sent back to Germany and they sent over a wife to him from "the old country". Sophia.

During the civil war BF Wolf moved back to WV abandoning his family here in the valley. I think you are a part of this subsequent family. His children here were James Monroe Wolf, John Adam Wolf, and Sarah Wolf.

I found three Adam coming over on a boat from Europe about the right time. All on the same boat and all Adam Wolf.

Artesian, SD History book.

John and Catherine (Wolf) Effling came to Afton Twp., Sanborn Co., SD in 1882 from LeMars, IA with four children: John, Margaret, Mary and Catherine.

ohn Effling file on his homestead Oct 26, 1882 ... the following May he went back to Plymouth County, IA and brought his family to their home in Dakota Territory. They had emigrated to the US from Luxembourg, Germany in 1871.

I am doing genealogy for Sanborn Co., and I am trying to find out when Catherine Wolf Effling died if the child Anna could be John and her's or from John's second wife. between the 1885 census and 1900 census Catherine died and he remarried. Anna is listed in the 1900 census as being born in 1888 and listed in the 1900 census along with his older child as living with John and his second wife. I can't find a mention of the second marriage either.

I'm also researching Woolf/Wolf/Wolfe. Anderson Woolf bn 1805/1806 Ky but census shows his mother bn in Virginia. I don't know his parents. I found him on census 1840 1850 Stampers creek orange county IN. He married Polly Ford in IN. They had six children, all born in IN. I'm guessing Polly must have died on their journey to clay county IL. John, the youngest was 4 at the time they arrived in IL.
Anderson married the widow Elisabeth Vickery in 1859. Anderson died in Bible Grove, IL.1884. I have had DNA done on the only Woolf (spelled Wolfe) we have left in our family. No results matched.

I'm looking for the relatives prior and subsequent to Henrietta Wolf, who married a Foss in Germany. They imigrated to the States from Germany arriving 1884, probably through the port of Galveston, TX. Mr. Foss must have died as Henrietta then married Herman Guenter(Guenther, Guenthner, Guentner) b 1846 in Germany who's 1st wife Amelia Marie Breckmen/Blakeman died in Texas 1893.

Herman an Amelia imigrated 1885 also to Galveston. Both Herman and Henrietta had children prior to their marriae in 1894. To Herman and Amelia were born Joe, Augusta(Gussie), Lizzie and Ella. Henriettas children were Walter, Herbert and Oscar Foss. Herman and Henrietta's children together were Fritz William and Della Guenter. Henrietta and Herman Guenter are buried at a Guenter Cemetery on private land southeast of Marble Falls.

I have a John Wolf b 1804 from KY. He moved to St Charles, MO at age 17. Here is the bio of his son, William:
http://www.win.org/library/services/lhgen/pbr1895/il3.htm

John named one of his sons Anderson and I have found that name continued in the family line.

How do I go about getting DNA done on my Wolf line? I would love to get that done. My mother was a Wolf but she still has one brother living.

I have my John Wolf's family on Find A Grave:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSvcid=...;
Thanks,
Betty

Which DNA test did you get done?

Yes, I would enjoy looking at your family tree.
Thanks,
Betty
