My side of Wolfe is from England and Germany before that, spelled Guelph pronounced ULF. If you start with Queen Victoria and go backwards through the fathers of each generation you'll get to Welf and Welfenberg. There were 2 tribes back in Roman Empire, one tribe was Guelph the other was Welf, they split. I found all this on Wikipedia I believe.

Bill Hooper
Hi Brandy,

Yes, someone who knew Nettie Maud contacted me originally but didn't give me any info.

Nettie's father was Ervin also spelled Irwin and Irvin Wolf without an 'e'. His wife was Louise Emma Pilchard not Pilcher which is what I had originally, too.

Their children were Nettie Maud, Fannie May who married an unknown Roberts, Ralph Ervin who died at age 3 from diptheria, George Claude and unknown wife, Herbert Cecil married Hazel unknown, Sarah Ethel who died in infancy, and William Mack who married Georgia Brown. Other than some childen's names and dates that is all that I have on the Wolfes.

Thank you for the names. My father-in-law did a pretty good job of recording his tree from memory.

Hi Brandy

Thanks for the info.

I have Lenore as the daughter of Nettie Maud Wolfe and Waldo Francis Badnell and not sure that is the correct name of her husband. Lenore's brothers were Hershel and Herbert. Someone else wrote that their last name was spelled Badenelle. Now am confused.

I have all the names and dates of Nettie Maud's siblings but not who they married except William Mack who married Georgia Elizabeth Brown and are my husband's grandparents.

Any info you have on the Wolfe side would be appreciated. If you need any help, I will be glad to help if I can.

Thanks.

Kathy

Hi Kathy, I descend from the Pilchard and Wolf family both and I have an extensive genealogy on both families. Your Ervin/Irvin Wolf(e) is the child of George Peter Wolf and Martha Malinda Varian. His wife, Louisa Emmaline Pilchard was the daughter of George Washington Pilchard and Sarah Sayre.

Ervin was a coal miner, moved from Meigs County to Cambridge, Ohio. After the death of her mother, Louisa's father moved to Columbus to live with his son, Mack Pilchard. Louisa was on her way to Columbus to visit her father when she was killed in an auto accident. Her father died 8 days later never knowing she was killed as they kept it from him.

I would like to correspond with you by email if we could.

Hi Joe,
I found the information on your Wolfe family this morning in Ancestry.com. I found it very informative. I have some Wolfs from WV in my background too. She would be my ggggg grandparents were Wolfs. I have Jacob Wolf had a daughter Anna Maria Catherina Wolfe who married Andreas Lees (now Lease) in 1767, First Evangelical German Reformed Church Frederick Co, MD. They in turn had William Leese, who had John Baldwin Lees, who had James Monroe Lease. Now I have always wondered where the James Monroe name came from, could never find anything on the Lease side, but after reading your post about James Monroe Wolf I can see a possibility of a connection through the Wolf line in West Virginia. Do you have any more information on the Wolf family that may be helpful to me?

Dottie

My grandmother's name was Mary Virginia Whitehair. My grandfathers name was Charles Mason Wolfe. They were both born in West Virginia between the years 1874 - 1879. My grandmother had relatives around the Flemington area. I think the Wolfe family was from the Marion - Harrison County area. My grandmother was Indian and am looking for anyone who knows anything about either of them. Thank you.....

Try looking for Wilhelm Adam Wolfe....he traveled with Peter Maurer from Germany to Maryland and then on into VA. The Maurer family changed thier name to the American version which is Mason.
Peter Mason and Adam Wolfe seem to "follow" each other....I suspect they may have been close friends.
The Mason kids end up in Marion-Monongalia-Harrison Co.
One of the Mason kids married to one of the Wolfe kids.

I do not know a lot about my great grandpa wolfe, however his name was Carl A. Wolfe, born in Shepherd, Mich. Oct 23.

He married a woman by the name of Vivian Rosamund Jones Wolfe of Lansing, Mich born Oct 8, 1900

I am not aware of his birth year at this moment. I only recently came across something that had this information written in it.

Grandma (shirley Mae) was an only child and did not speak of her family much. I do recall that the whole family moved to or around Norfolk, VA around the time of the Koren War. Which is where my grandparents met.

If this Carl is one of relatives you are looking for I would be interested in learning more about this branch of the family. You can email me directly at Miranda6764@yahoo.com

Hello, Melanie! I am not the historian in the family, but the name Jacob Wolfe rings a bell. We know that the Wolfe family came to Chattanooga, TN from NC, and my Great-Grandfather is Merideth (Merada) Wolfe. There have been 3 spellings of the Wolfe name; Wolfe/Wolf/Woolf. I have heard the folklore that the family Wolfe married a Cherokee "princess" and we have the Cherokee connection. Somewhere I have photos of a river baptism in NC. What do you know about the NC Wolfes. My e-mail address is: suscarolautwetz8@aol.com Send me a note and I will give you some current names of family collecting info on the family tree. Do you know Owen Wolfe, Elizabeth Wolfe, or Earl Wolfe? My mother's mother was Elizabeth Wolfe Scruggs ("Lizzy"). Mail me. I'll give more information about my family. Thanks for asking. - Ralph Wetzel

Hi Bob,
Got your message on Meredith Wolfe. He is my Great Grandfather. The Meredith Wolfe homestead house still exists. I was raised in it. It is at 2003 Bennett Avenue in Chattanooga. One block over at 1900 Anderson Avenue is the house Earl Wolfe, Grandson of Meredith lived until his death in 1997. His widow still lives there. There is a second Meredith Wolfe house on Union Avenue where Meredith and his wife, Elizabeth moved to after giving as a wedding gift the house on Bennett Avenue to his daughter who married my grandfather, John Elam Scruggs. Their daughter was Ruth Scruggs, who married my father. That leads to me, an only child. Actually, I am Ralph M Wetzel, Jr. named after my dad. Good to hear from you. Seems we have Wolfe descendents all over the country.
Good to hear from you!
Best,
Ralph

Hi Bob!
Jeremiah was my GGG. Meredith (Merada, Meridy) was my GG. They lived mainly in Eastern Tennessee. So did I. I was born in Chattanooga and lived in the old Wolfe homestead at 2003 Bennett Avenue until I was 22 years of age. The home is still there.

RE: Wolfe

Hello,
I'm trying to solve the mystery of my 3xgreatgrandfather Jacob Wolfe. He was born 12-26-1794 or 11-1-1798. His parents supposedly killed in a wagon train, one of them was Native American. He was raised by Mark Dedmon and Hannah Bailey and they lived in Rutherford County, NC. They may or may not have been kin to Jacob, even though Mark's sife had listed Jacob as grandson on Rev War pension App. Dedmon historians has their daughter Polly Dedmon as mother. She was born 11-13-1786, and she would have been either 8 years old or 12 years old when Jacob was born, but have found no proof that she did indeed give birth to him.
I have been trying to find if there were other Wolfe relatives that might shed some light on this story. Any info you have that might help me would sure be appreciated.
Thank You,
Melanie Malone
Whitewolfe0510@aol.com

My grandfather was James Wolfe, brother of Earl Wolfe. Uncle Earl used to come visit my father a lot until his death in 1961.
James was married in Rossville, GA to Barbara Stancil (Stancel) and lived in Catoosa County off Mack Smith Road.
The old Stancil homestead was still there (civil war shot and all!) until the mid 90s.
