I don't really have anything further back than Petrer and Victoria. The family grew up in Posen Michigan on a potato farm, which is still in the family. All 21 kids grew up there, and when the parents died, they grew up on their own. I do think Peter had a brother named Lawrence though, and some of tha tfamily is in Denver. My father was born in 1922, so my guess is that Peter was born in the late 1800's (1880-1899?)

If there is a connection between us, it would be a brother, sister, or parent of my great-grandparents Thomas Woloszyk and Catherine Kizorek Woloszyk. They were born in the 1860's. They were both born in Poland/Prussia/Germany/Austria and immigrated to the U.S. in the very late 1880's. Thomas was married in Chicago in 1890, first wife named Frances Sweda, who died. Remarried to my great-grandmother in 1892 in Chicago.

I do not know where they came from before Chicago. I do not know ANYTHING about their families at all, other than there were cousins in Detroit.

Woloszyk isn't a very common name, so I'm sure there's a connection there somewhere.

There is also a Johann Woloszyk that lived in central Illinois in the 1860-1800's. I can't place him in the family tree either - but I believe there's a connection there also.

amycannon

My dad, Leonard, who died in 2000, spoke of cousins from Detroit. The problem is - I have no idea if they were Woloszyk cousins or Kizorek cousins. My grandfather, John Woloszyk, went to Detroit to visit his cousins around 1918 [right before or right after WWI]. I have some pictures that have the captions "John and the cousins from Detroit". I have never ever been able to find ANY relatives of John Woloszyk's parents. Their names were Thomas Woloszyk and Catherine Kizorek Woloszyk. I find it so hard to believe that both of them were only children - yet I can not find any brothers, sisters, or parents for them.

I do know that these "Detroit cousins" came to Chicago and visited my grandfather in the 1930's or 1940's. That's when my dad remembered meeting them.

Thanks for replying to my post so fast!

amycannon

These were definitely them and I have all 3 census in my FTM. The 1920 one was interesting as that one has my grandfather living a couple of houses up from them. Sophia/Zophia married at 16.

I actually have all their death certificates including Tomas/Thomas as well as his marriage certificates but it does not mention his parents.

His obit from the Polish Genealogy Society did not have any brothers or sister or parents listed either. Hence the dead end...

I'll be anxious to hear if your father's tree has Tomas/Thomas in it when it arrives.

Again, thank you for your help. With such large families back then I cannot believe he was an only child w/no relatives!

She died in 2005 on my b-day and I never knew this side of the family. She would not speak of them... issues...

I have 2000 in my tree but only 25 from the Wolosyzk side... lots of pics w/no names though... They are like a dead end to me as I cannot find Tomas and Katazina! They had quite a few kids... my grandmother was Zophia Woloszyk.

Thanks for any help!
The plot thickens..... I asked my aunt if she had ever met her grandfather, Johann and did he have any brothers. She did meet him and he did only speak Polish. She wasn't sure if he had a brother Thomas, but he DID have brothers that went to the United States.
The town they lived in was Alt Kirschau (German name) or Stara Kiszewa (Polish name). She said the town hall still has the birth records available and she will write and ask them to look for Thomas' birth record to see if he has the same parents as Johann. I will let you know as soon as we hear something.
WOLOSZYK CHICAGO/DETROIT CONNECTION

I have been trying to trace my dad's family tree for some time now...and have hit a dead end. I have a great-grandfather I am trying to trace. His name is Thomas Woloszyk, born December 28, 1865. He married Katherine Kizorek at St. Hedgwig's in Chicago. They had eight children: John, Stella, Agnes, Frank, Sophie, Walter, Max, and Lottie. They all stayed in the Chicago area. My grandfather is John. There are no records of Woloszyk's in Chicago before the mid-1890's. I have pictures of John with "cousins from Detroit" dated 1917. I think that Thomas came from Detroit, had parents from Detroit, or brothers and sisters from Detroit. Any help with this would be surely appreciated.

Amy Woloszyk Cannon

My father, Dr. Carl Woloszyk has been working on our family tree for the Woloszyk family. He now has over 900 names in his log. My father's dad, my grandfather, was Andrew Woloszyk and he was 1st cousins with my Uncle Eddie Woloszyk who was 1 of the 21 siblings that you asked about. It is my understanding that all of those siblings have now passed. If you are looking for information on the family name I'd be happy to assist in anyway that I can.

Also, I believe I have a photo that showed up in the paper with all the siblings when they were younger. Sadly, the mother passed away giving birth to the last child.

-Steven Woloszyk

Thank you so much for your help. I have reached a dead end here. Thomas appears to be the only Woloszyk in Chicago in the 1890's and all the Woloszyk's in Chicago that come after him seem to be descendants. He seems to have come from thin air! I can't find any of his relatives!

I know that Thomas was born December 28 I think 1865. I know that he only spoke Polish and I think he was from Prussia. I believe he came into the United States around 1890 - he was married in Chicago in 1892 and had eight children.

I had a grandfather by the name of Joseph Woloszyk but he married someone named stella and they lived in Pennsylvania. They had a son Joseph, but he died as an infant. I have been trying to do a family tree on the woloszyk side and keep coming up empty. I'm pretty sure that the Joseph your talking about and my grandfather are 2 different people, but the name is not a common one and I am curious if there is a link somewhere along the lines. If you have any more info or know someone who might my email address is zooisland936@yahoo.com Thanks

My great grandfather was Johann Woloszyk, born on Jan. 23 1863 in Alt Dirschau, Prussia. My family didn't come to the US until the late 1950's so we are relatively resent "Woloszyk's". Johann's father was Paul Woloszyk who was born on Jan 11 1820 in Prussia. Do you know where Thomas or his parents were born? I have relative who still keep in touch with the "Woloszyk" side of the family in Poland. I could find out some further info if needed.

I know he is----I have the whole family tree and a lot of pictures and history of the family--parents-grandparents--siblings of parents and grandparents etc. I've been doing a lot of research and received a lot from distant cousins and relatives of your father's grandparents and their siblings. A nice picture of your father as a little boy standig by his father sitting in a chair. I've made history albums for both of my children and their children.--Nice remembrance.
