Found your 2007 posting for suggestions for researching John Wood before 1850. I am a Wood researcher and found your posting intriguing as I have a Cole and a Wood connection in Perry Co AL. John Wood and Janetta Coles daughter Maneta married into the Farrar family who it is said, migrated to Loiusiana from Perry Co AL. I suspect that Janetta may also have descended from many Coles who resided there in Perry Co AL. Jessee (Jesse) Cole settled there from Newberry SC. Born in 1799, I suspect he migrated in the mid 1820s. There is quite a bit of info on him at the Perry Co AL Genweb site. The Cole, Wood and Farrar families all reside together in the Orange/Chatham Co NC area in the late 1700's. If you are still looking for John Wood parents I might suggest you look there.

My connection:
my ggggrandparents Wm Clark m Courtney Wood in Chatham Co NC 1812 (has a brother, John Wood)

Cole connection through Courtney Wood

Wm and Courtney's son James Clark b 1819, leaves NCand is living with Jesse Cole family in 1850 census Perry Co AL. Listed as an overseer

Best, Melissa
