My Wood descendant, Rev. Richard Wood, was born around 1756 in Mecklenburg, VA, then migrated to the NC area and on into Jefferson Co., TN near Dandridge, TN.His wife was Mary Price. His descendent, James Wood was my line. The father and son owned an island in the French Broad River prior to the TVA covering the area with Douglas Lake in 1941. My great great grandfather was Wm T. Wood whose son, Silas Mitchell Wood was my great grandfather. I believe my Wood family came from either NY or MA and migrated into VA. Would you see if any of my family are listed in your book? You may contact me at zenogo1@yahoo.com. I would appreciate any light you can shed on my Wood family ancestors. Zenna Smith

I was given copies of wills etc. from earlier family researchers that I will gladly share with you if you are able to send me a mail address.

Would you share information on the Mc Claren side of the family. I've seen it as Larkin and various spellings. Also, can you tell me where you found that Susaana Wood was born in the Abbeville, S. C.
John wood b Stafford then moved to Scotland by 1882

I have been having lots of fun with trial and error on my Wood family. Originally got told they were from Staffordshire then got correct by saying that they were from Kent. Should have gone with my original gut feeling and knowlege.
I have finally found out what I believe to be true and accurate. William Wood was born in Scotland in 1882. He is the son of John Wood (b. 1849 in Staffordshire) and Sarah Wood (cousins ?) John and Sarah escaped to Scotland because he was wanted by the law for poaching ?
John is the son of Isaac Wood and Sarah UNK, Isaac being from Warwickshire, b. abt 1819.
Does anyone know this family ? Would love to hear from you.
KARON

Wood, born in Dartmouth, MA; later moved to NY. According the the book, he moved to Ohio around 1816 (where he died in 1838).
If you do not have access to a copy of the book, I can do any look-ups you might need.
Regards,
Mike Wood

Clarissa "Clara" Savage was b: 31 Oct. 1805 daughter of Daniel and Lydia Savage. She married Azor Wood and died Guilford Center 1878 and is buried in Guilford Center, NY. Azor died 27 Feb, 1882 at age 79 in Guilford Center. There is no stone in the cemetery but probably could have been destroyed as the cemetery was in bad shape for many years until the Guilford Historical Society got a grant to fix up.

If you are interested about Rev. James Wood please read a book 'Letters of Yesterday'which is avail as a digital copy at http://books.google.com.
This book contains a section of his letters to his daughter who is being called 'Dear M'.

I am equally interested in this person. Would you please check,if you belong to his family, whether he had any connection with an Indian scholar MUKHERJEE RASBIHARI.

Regards,

Barun Chattopadhyay

Hello, did you follow up my couple of finds about Henry Wood in Kent? I am curious to know if it came to anything. I'm sure he's not related to my family, we come from Yorkshire, only a few of us venturing south and not near Deal.
If I can help let me know.
Peter Wood

I am seeking information on the Wood Family that lived in
North Carolina around 1800 as my great-grandfather John
Wood was born in that state in around 1822. He then moved
to Marion County, Tennessee. He married Sarah Jane Anderson
there but I do not have a marriage date. I would really like
to know where his parents were from and how I can find out
more information on them. So far I have run into a brick
wall and have not been able to trace John any farther back
than his estimated birth date to 1822. If you have any
information on my family I would appreciate any help that
you can be. Sincerely, Barbara Parke-Durkee

My name is Barbara Parke-Durkee and my mother was a Wood.
Her father was Elijah Alexander Wood whose father was John
Wood born in North Carolina in I believe 1822. I am having
a lot of trouble finding anything more about him and since he is my great-grandfather I would like to know more. Any
help you can give me would be very appreciated. I have no
knowledge of John Wood's parents or where they came from.
I wrote to the state of North Carolina Archives Dept. and
they told me that they could not help me because of budget
problems.
Vernon Arthur Wood of Cookstown, formerly of Shelburne, Ontario

Shelburne Newspaper
Thursday, March 17, 1932

+ The Coroner's Jury at the inquest held to investigate the death of Vernon Arthur Wood of Cookstown, formerly of Shelburne, fourth-year chemical engineering student at the University of Toronto, whose fatal injuries were received due to an explosion of an autoclave in the Mining Building on the afternoon of Feb. 15th, has returned the following verdict: "We the jury find that Vernon Arthur Wood came to his death, February 17, 1932, in the Toronto General Hospital from injuries received as the result of an explosion that occurred while an unauthorized experiment was being carried on the afternoon of February 15 by the deceased in the regular laboratory in connection with the university. On the evidence, no blame should be attached either to the manufacturers of the apparatus used, nor to any member of the faculty of the university. We should suggest, as a measure of safety, that no material for experimentary purposes be supplied to any student except on orders signed by the faculty member in charge, he having approved of the procedure to be followed during the experiment."
Hi Peter, As we know very little about Henry from what I have posted know one has been able to help as yet. Even people in Kent have not been able to help. The name wood in Kent was very common so he could have been anyone. A couple of convict records look a bit useful, another one we have is a sponsorship but we don't know how that system worked to try and sort out who the sponsor was. Now I understand when people say it takes at least 20 years to sort some people in a family tree.
