I am the granddaughter of stella Woodall. I know of the Sarah Woodall you are looking for. Sarah and Stella had several brothers and sisters; Vada, mary, Elbert, Henry Logan and Parker. Stella, Logan, and Parker are buried in the Acorn Cem in Pulaski County Ky. That is where I am from. I have heard my older sister speak of sarah. She visited her with my grandparents, Stella and Bill. Did Sarah have her legs amputated from complications of diabetes? I think I have a photo of sarah and Roberts son and his wife and child. Please contact me , preferably by email at Higginshope@aol.com I am excited to find someone else looking for the Wooodall's as you know, they were all scattered.

Does anyone have information on Reba Woodall. She was born around 1915, but not sure where. I know she did at one time live in Georgia where she married Marion Dunaway. They are my grandparents, now deceased. I sure would like to know more about her. Any info would be appreciated. I am not sure how accurate this is, but as a little girl I was told she grew up on a Cherokee reservation. She was Cherokee with a little Dutch in her. Thank you.

Greetings. My email address is cwdav1@mindspring.com. The Archives is usually crowded on the weekend and is closed on Monday so just about any time during the week is ok with me-just let me know. Slaves on the plantation at the time of my relatives were: Harry, Robin, Allen, Elbert, Edy, Adeline, Nancy, Hester, Ann, Susan, Charles, Nathan, Jerry, Joe, Henry, Mary, Charlotte, Eli, Jesse, Charles, Robert, Harriett, Leroy, Fanny and Gus. Hester and her children, Elbert, Henry, Ann, Fanny & Gus were my relatives. Gus was my mother's grandfather whom she lived with for a while. There were others but the names are illegible.

Thanks Jack I read that information and I could not get too much from what was there but it created a lot of excitement for me. After reading and comparing my DNA with some of the members in that group I could see some simularities but too far away in my opinion to question. My gr grandad was said to have some indian blood but I didn't question that when I got back my dna results. I think now is the time for me to take a deep interest in my dna results and get all the information I can about it plus some time lines so I can better figure things out. In my mind my family were brought to America early 1800 through Florida then to Georgia after a period they were sold to a family in Virginia who after a generation moved to Georgia and they settled in Americus after 1868 and married and settled down to have children but my dad was not born until 1907 the last child and was 0nly abt 15 when his dad died and was abt 21 when his mom died. He did not share much about his family with his children but my mother knew enough to start me to searching. Some of my other posts will tell you how far I got. I have located about 105 relatives so far.

At least you can go that far back. My grandfather Wm Henry Woodall was born abt 1854, and his sister Jane was born abt 1853, brother Louis was born abt 1857. I don't know for a fact but there were two other siblings Elizabeth and Sally. Mother and Dad were Alfred and Sally but I don't have any dates for either. I don't know if the siblings were born before or after the ones I have dates I have mentioned. They were seprerated and moved away after the year of freedom using another surname I'm told. I was also told that Jane, Wm Henry and Louis were sold but wether that was before they were owned by Moses Brown or after but history shows they ended up in Georgia at least by 1870 where they lived till their deaths. Virginia was the other place they lived I'm told and my grandfather showed up on a plantation in Americus of G. W. Harris who is also from Virginia my research tells me. The 1910 census of my gr aunt Jane says her parents were from Florida so my take is they were sold from Georgia to Virginia and came back again with the Harris family.

Reading your post and with the information you shared with me I was wondering if Leroy Woodall had other slaves on his plantation other than your family members. I don't have that information about my family so finding other information about them is tough. My gr,gr grandfather is Alfred Woodall. This information is on the death certificate of my grandfather. There is no mention of my grandmother because the question was Mothers maiden name and of coarse my uncle didn't know that information. We were told by my mother that Moses Brown was the slave owner of my grandparents but it was not clear if he was the last owner before the year of freedom. The question is were there any mention of other on the plantation in that inventory and appraisement report and who might they be. I could meet you at the Archives to get a handle of that information.

Semper Fi 05-19- 1950

Bill Minnick known as "Wild Bill" was a professional motor cycle racer for Harley Davidson. He was killed in 1926 while racing after setting several records. You can Google him and his fellow racers, Jim Davis, and Joe Petralli. He would have been Donald Woodall's stepfather. Rae Hufford, Donald Woodall mother was married 6 times and the first was Bill Minnick. I have a 1926 photo of him and his obit if you would like.

Re: Woodall family in Georgia

I finally got around to reading a reply you placed on the message board. My Mom said that Moses Brown of Valdosta was the owner of my parents. Since most slaves took their owners name I wonder how we got the name Woodall. Thats the association I have been looking for. Somewhere along the line they must have been owned by someone named Woodall. My grandfather was on a farm in 1870 owned by a George W Harris whose father George was living in Virginia 1850's 60's when George W showed up living in Georgia. In 1860 M A Brown shows up for Moses with an overseer with slaves that fit my folks description. It would appear that Moses was deceased at that time. Then in 1870 my grandfather shows up on the Harris Farm. My mother says they were sold but didn't say which way wether from Ga to VA or the other way around. But as I said in my previous message any help would be appreciated. There were other members of my family that changed their name and moved off to other places. Haven't got a clue to where but have ideas what name they took which may help solve the riddle of who owned them first.

My ancestor is Zephaniah Harvey Woodall, brother of John Woodall. According to A History of Morgan County, Alabama, by John Knox, the two brothers, John and Zepheniah Woodall came to Alabama Territory from Milledgville, GA., in 1817, and "located in Cotaco county (later renamed Morgan Co.) ... about the center of it which is now between Hartselle and Somerville. ... they married two Vest sisters [Mary and Luvina] ... not long until in that part of the county, twenty-four double cousins came into being from said marriages...." I was unaware of any other siblings of these two brothers and I would be grateful if you will share your knowledge of them with me, and also cemetery knowledge. (Zephaniah and Luvina are buried in Iuka, Mississippi.) None of the Woodall researchers I know have been able to document further back, but several have the names of their parents as Jonathan Woodall and Lincey Harvey. A descendant of Zephaniah's has submitted DNA for testing and we are waiting for any connection. Helen Dearing
She lived a large part of her life in Portland Oregon where I was born. Is it possible you have the first and middle names swapped?
Karen,

You are correct, I was adopted by my biological mother's friend, Beryl Rice and her husband Ronald Rice when I was 13. I was born in Portland in 1953. Probably 2 - 4 years before you. I call both Beryl and Marrine mother. Beryl died in 1995. Beryl never told me she was involved in your adoption. But she did mention that Marrine had a daughter and went to California to give her up for adoption. I asked Beryl for more info but she said she didn't know anything more. I can see why she might have told your mother not to let you know Marrine's family. She was probably thinking of Marrine's mother (my grandmother). Marrine's mother was overbearing. Marrine wanted to put me up for adoption but my grandmother wouldn't let her. I'm sure Marrine went to California to get away from her mother and attempt to give you the best start possible. There's a lot more on this subject but I'd like not to put it in this public forum.

Here's some basic info:

My mother's name was Marrine Frances Woodall and she was born in Atlanta (or close by) in 1934 I believe. She has a brother (Bubby - He wasn't aware of you when I asked) who still lives in Portland. Her mother (Helen) died in 1977 in Portland also. Marrine had another son (George) which I haven't been able to contact for the last couple of years. Marrine spent a large part of her life in Portland Oregon where I was born in 1953. Helen was originally a Jointer but married into the Woodall family (She married Wayon -- pronounced Wayne) in Atlanta. They divorced and Wayon died in 1941.

Helen had 4 siblings which one of them is still alive in New Haven Connecticut. (I've not been good about keeping in touch).

I have a fair number of family pictures.

I'd very much like to talk to you.
Is ksnyder1955@yahoo.com your email?
We can exchange phone numbers and arrange to talk if you feel comfortable.

Wayne

The name Frances Marrine Woodall was the name my birth mother signed on the adoption papers. The last name Rice (which I noticed was yours) was a friend of hers . I have a letter written by this Rice woman that told my adopted mother what she would need for a baby. She also said that it would not be wise for me to know my birth mother's family. No reason given why she said this. Maybe we are related, I don't know. Please may I have more information?
Karen

Wayne,
Yes, that is my email. I am not sure I am your sister; the letter from Rice shows different first names for the Rice family. Betty and J.H. & a daughter (5) named Sherry. Also, she was pregnant with another child that would have been due around April 1st. If it at all possible, could you send me pictures of Marrine and your mom, Beryl, through email? My Mom would know if they were the same people since they personally knew each other.
Karen

I found my family with correct names as slaves in the Inventory & Appraisement report of the estate of Leroy Woodall who had died in Jones Co. GA in 1845 and left them to his minor children. Subsequent reports for the heirs continued to name my gggrandmother Hester. As she had children, she was listed as "Hester and her children ...(names)" My ggrandfather - Gus, was eventually named as one of her children in the reports of the 1860s & the "Final Report" dated 25 Feb 1864.

Leroy Woodall was the son of John Woodall who died in Jones Co. circa 1839, John's parents were John Woodall and Dorothy Pledge Woodall of Wilkes Co. GA etc.

Good luck on your search; our's is especially problematic.

Matilda Woodall 1851 Dudley

I'm researching Matilda Woodall/ Woodhall, born in Dudley in 1851. She married David Jones. Their daughter Mary Ann is my Great Grandmother on my mothers side. I have not been able to locate a marriage certificate in the Dudley area, although I have a 1871 census from Yorkshire with a possible match for both Matilda and David before their marriage.
Matildas father was Joseph Woodhall, and was living with David and Matilda in 1901. He was born about 1825.

Can anybody help?

Hello,

My name is Mark Woodall, my late father was called John David Woodall and was born in 1941 and my late grandfather was Sydney Woodall who I believe was born in 1918. My grandfather did live near Buffrey Park, Dudley, when I was a child. That is all I know about the Woodall's apart from one ancestor who use to ride a bicycle with a false leg and rubber band!

Any relevant information would be helpful and interesting.

Cheers...
Helen,

If you'll send me your personal email I'll send you lots of information. I have census records, etc. and most of it came from ancestry.com. And my ancestors, Noah Woodall and his brothers, as well as his mother Ellen, were buried at Chestnut Grove Cemetary. Noah was John's grandson. Also, I'm looking for documentation on Jonathan Woodall. The info I've seen say he was born in Scotland, but I've found no documentation to prove it. Do you have anything on him?

Thank you,

Cathy

Antonia,

I am descended from William and Annie Woodhall of Hadley, Middlesex. William's father was James, who was born in Dudley about 1790.
