Hi just saw this on the board and realize it's over a year old so I'm not sure if you'll see it and reply.

My maiden name is Christine Woodard - my father was Melvin L. Woodard who passed away in 2001. He was born in Foreman, Ark so I'm assuming this is a relative of mine. BTW, his father was Henry Daniel Woodard b.1910

Let me know if you still have this picture as I'd love to see it. Thanks!

Bonnie, I do have them in my FTM database of the Woodward and Woodard families. Edwin Bracy Woodard was born July 01 1837 in Champion, Jefferson County, NY and died Sep 10 1915 in Gladwin, Gladwin County, MI. He was the son of Daniel Woodward born 1801 in Whites Town, Oneida County, NY and died in 1881 in Speaker, Sanilac Co., MI. He married to Hannah Sischo who was born Aug 04, 1808 in Champion, NY and died Jul 14 1881 in Speaker, MI. Daniel Woodard's parents were Rutsey Woodward b. 1770 VT or Canada and died 29 May 1848 in So. Norwich, Oxford Co., Ontario. He married to Mary Annis who was born Jan 04 1776 VT and died 29 May 1845 in Springford, ON. Rutsey's father was Daniel Woodward b. 26 Jan 1755 in Hingham, Plymouth Co, MA His wife unk.

I can take it back further but will wait to hear back from you by personal email or by telephone.
p.s. Rutsey Woodward was indicated as was his family I think as being Mulatto in a Census. Sometimes Native folks had this indicated by Census takers. Whether or not this Woodward family was African-Amer. or West Indies, or Native American I do not know.
Kindly, Douglas

Hello, I know I MUST have your ancestors in my Family Tree Maker. You can either email me at douglaslloydbuchholz (at) yahoo (dot) com. Or call me at 603 799 2718 if you want. I have Bracy's married to Woodward's, two siblings Hazen or Mason Woodward married to Gertrude Bracy, and his brother Andrew Baker Woodward married to Gertrude's sister Nellie Bracy. The two Woodward's were the son's of John Freeman Woodward and Emma Anna Nott, The two Bracey sister's were the daughters of William Bracey and Hattie Combs. I have a some photographs you might like to see, but they are only photocopies but I think they are of your ancestors.

Kindly,
Douglas Lloyd Buchholz

Re: Mason A. Woodard

you are both correct. Apollos Woodward is the father of Alpheus Mason Woodward. He was also the father for Charles Blair, Ruth, Roxanna, Royal William, Parker Preston Woodward.

Apollos left his first family ca. 1816 and went with his father Jeptha's brother Nathaniel Woodward and Naomi Plaisted to New York State so we surmise. Charles, Ruth and Alpheus went up to Shefford Quebec, where Rachel Reynolds Woodward's kith and kin were living. Still not sure what happened to Raychel Reynolds after 1820. But I got lots to share if you want the information. I did find Apollos Woodward out in Lapeer County, Michigan ca. 1850's. He disappeared by ca. Jan Feb 1859. Can't find his one son James B. Woodward and family in the 1860 census though. Nor Apollos or his 2nd wife either in that census. Anyway, from a fellow Woodward family genealogical descendant I thought I would say yes, you both are correct. If Jeptha Woodward didn't married until Feb 07 1801, then who are the two children 14-16 years old in his household in the 1800 census. Apollos and Hepzibah Woodward, by a first yet unnamed wife. He didn't married Persis Washburn until Feb 1801. Apollos married to Rachel Reynolds on Sep 13 1801. Jeptha's widowed mother Mary Britton-Woodward lived in the household with Jeptha and his two children in the 1800 census as well. She remarried to William Greene and then to James Hunt, and then died in 1839. I have her obit etc etc. I have pictures of Royal W. Woodward, some desc. of Parker, and a picture of Apollos 2nd wife and their two sons and descendants as well. ONLY Apollos did not own any land in the Keiser Pond area. Why? Only his line and that of Hepzibah's desc's married native descendants. Anyway, genealogical questions still to ponder and to answer some day, hopefully with evidence etc. Kindly, Douglas Lloyd Buchholz

I am looking for the whereabouts of Parker Preston Woodward who lived in Fitch Bay Quebec, died around June 1884 Married to a Sarah P. Sawyer in Danville, Vt. Later after she died he remarried to a Susan Brown. Also still looking for a James B. Woodward and Mary Allen in the 1860 census with son George W. Also looking for Nancy Jane Woodward-Allard last seen in Boscawen, NH in the 1880 census in the household of Ezra Harris. Seeking Nathaniel Woodward who was of Smithfield RI ca. 1779 and whose wife was Mary Britton. And his father Thomas Woodward also of Smithfield bef. 1782. I am a descendant of the Woodward's in Smithfield, RI and also of the bunch of children in Deweys Gore Deweysburgh Vermont. APOLLOS IS NOT THE SON OF NATHANIEL WOODWARD AND MARY BRITTON UNLESS NATHANIEL WOODWARD (MARY BRITTONS HUSBAND) DID NOT DIE PRIOR TO 1782.
PARKER PRESTON WOODWARD IS NOT THE SON OF NATHANIEL AND MARY BRITTON'S SON DARIUS WOODWARD/NANCY TAYLOR EITHER.

CONTACT ME FOR FURTHER INFORMATION. SEEKING CLARIFICATION FOR THE ABOVE DYNAMICS IN THE WOODWARD FAMILY. etc.

I can help you with ANY of Mason Alpheus Woodward's lineage ancestry. You are a relative of Alpheus Mason Woodward b. 1810 Peacham, Vermont and Angeline (?). Alpheus Mason Woodward was the son of my 5th great grandfather Apollos aka Thomas A. Woodward and his first wife Rachel Reynolds. Please email me at douglaslloydbuchholz@yahoo.com or call me at 603 788 2718. I been working on these ancestors for quite a many years now. I have 5 children to the Mason and Sarah Ann DeGraw Woodward family. James Edward, Viola Ann, Sylvester Alexander, Lucy Isobel, and Jesse Isobel Woodward. This couple married Jan 22 1870 in Jackson County, Iowa. Would love to compare information with anyone, photographs and all. Kindly, Douglas Lloyd Buchholz

This is good news - I am struggling with how my family left somewhere in Tennessee (1820-25) after having come from NC (after 1790), and going to Iowa by 1840. It appears that they traveled from Tennessee to Illinois (Hancock Co.) thence to Fairfield Iowa.
My known ancestor is Henry Woodard, m. Elizabeth Melton (?, Elizabeth Whittington (2)?) and his sons include Aaron, David, John (good 19th century names!). I will f/u with the DNA, that may be a good lead.
Does any of this fit with any data you have

I got the names of Philander Woodard & Maria Montgomery from the book "The Montgomerys and Their Descendants" by D.B. Montgomery, published by JP Cox in Owensville, IN in 1903. On page 249 "Maria Montgomery, eighth child of Judge Issac Montgomery, married Philander Woodard. The book does have information on Maria's family, but no further mention of Philander or their descendants.

I am the g-g-grandson of Maria's youngest brother, McGrady Montgomery.

The book shows the following ancestors for Maria:
parents= Isaac Montgomery & Martha McClure
grandparents= Thomas Montgomery (Revolutionary War veteran) & Martha Crockett (sister of Col Joseph Crockett of the Revolutionary War)
grandfather= James McClure
g-grandfather= Hugh Montgomery Sr.

Thomas & Martha married in VA 1767. They lived in Montgomery Co, VA until 1796; then in Montgomery Co, KY; then to Knox Co (later Gibson Co), IN in 1806, where they were the first family to settle in that county.

If you are interested in the ancestors and family of Maria, this is a great book to read.

I have not been doing much research at all for several years now.

Luke Crump
I am searching for information about the parents of James H. Woodard, born about 1808 in Tennessee. He was married to Caroline C. Woodard and was listed in the 1850 and 1860 census reports in Tennessee. It seems possible the family moved west from Virginia or North Carolina or possibly from Kentucky. In the census reports he is listed as a farmer in Madison County, TN.

Any information will be appreciated.

Their daughter Sarah was born in Indiana in 1841. Sarah maried my g-grandfather David Auld in Atchison about 1865.
Any info you could supply on Philander's early life and family would be appreciated as he is hard to track down.
I now have data on all the Woodards that came to Robertson Co Tn from NC. Also have done a DNA 37 marker panel on our Woodards in Robertson Co Tn. I am looking for information about Moses Woodard, b. 1735 c. abt 1789. His will is in DB 5-240 page 3 Edgecombe Co NC. Looking for proof of his father which could be John Woodard. His is fuzzy and I have him being born in Isle of Wight, VA but no proof on that.
Will Jones
Robertson Co Tn

Wilson Woodard (Woodward, Woodered, Woodword) and his descendants

I'm still trying to find any information on Wilson (Nelson) Woodard (Woodward, Woodword, Woodered) and his descendants. Wilson was imported or born in Virginia. Early records state that he lived in Richmond, VA and had one son named Gustavus ( Gus). Gus's mother MAY have been name, Elizabeth but there is nothing further on his mother history or Gus's early childhood. According to an interview in the Slave Narratives, Wilson's son Isaac (Ike) Wood(w)ard, says they were sold to the Wiley Woodard Plantation in Mississippi. This may be where Wilson was married to Dollie (or Dolly) Pruitt, who was born in Alabama ( her origin is unknown, so far). They went on to have several children including Ben, Rosetta, Tiller (Tilla), Jefferson (Jeff), Amos, James, Samuel (Sammie), Lena, Bell, Wilson, Dock and Lela. I'm not sure that Dollie/Dolly is the biological mother to all of these children. Two of the brothers, Jefferson and Isaac married two sisters Nannie and Julie ( or July) Wade. I'm interested in learning more about all of these individuals, their descendants and their Native American ancestry.
