After a painful and protracted illness our esteemed friend and fellow pioneer, Rev. William B. Woodbury, has finally passed away - died while yet not much beyond middle life. He was a son of Benjamin Woodbury and Abigail Blanchard Woodbury, born in this county in 1825, and was therefore only 57 years and some months old at the time of his death, which occurred December 4, 1882. Nearly all the years of his life were spent near Granville. His father and mother died many years ago, more recently his brother, niece, daughter, and grandchild. The widow, a son, sister-in-law, and nephew survive him. A philosophical and christian resignation characterized his long and painful illness. He was a good man, always the advocate of temperance, freedom, patriotism and a pure morality. From the organization of the Pioneer Socirty until his death he was one of our faithful members, sometimes acting as chaplain. Mr. Woodbury was a man of fair talents and acquitted himself as well on the platform as a lecturer, and in the pulpit as a preacher of the Gospel. During the last 25 years he was pastor of a church in Liberty township; and also of one in Jersey township; and for sometime of a church in Reynoldsburg, also one in McConnellsville, and probably of some others at various times.
