Horace W. Woodbury

I am seeking info on Horace Woodbury who married Wilhelmena Catherine Lipke (her maiden name). I believe they were married after 1880 in Minnesota. In 1892 she is listed as follows in her father's will: Wilhelmena C. Woodbury, 36, Cedar Lake Road, Minneapolis, MN. A clerk at the courthouse in Minneapolis said a man named Horace Woodbury also resided there at that time. I found a census listing for Horace W. Woodbury, age 6, son of Daniel and Elizabeth Woodbury in 1860, St. Paul, MN. He might be the one! Hope someone knows something about this family.

OBIT Rev. William B. Woodbury, Newark, Ohio, 12-27-1882

The Daily Advocate
Newark, Ohio
December 27, 1882

After a painful and protracted illness our esteemed friend and fellow pioneer, Rev. William B. Woodbury, has finally passed away - died while yet not much beyond middle life. He was a son of Benjamin Woodbury and Abigail Blanchard Woodbury, born in this county in 1825, and was therefore only 57 years and some months old at the time of his death, which occurred December 4, 1882. Nearly all the years of his life were spent near Granville. His father and mother died many years ago, more recently his brother, niece, daughter, and grandchild. The widow, a son, sister-in-law, and nephew survive him. A philosophical and christian resignation characterized his long and painful illness. He was a good man, always the advocate of temperance, freedom, patriotism and a pure morality. From the organization of the Pioneer Socirty until his death he was one of our faithful members, sometimes acting as chaplain. Mr. Woodbury was a man of fair talents and acquitted himself as well on the platform as a lecturer, and in the pulpit as a preacher of the Gospel. During the last 25 years he was pastor of a church in Liberty township; and also of one in Jersey township; and for sometime of a church in Reynoldsburg, also one in McConnellsville, and probably of some others at various times.

Abraham WOODBURY son of??????

HELP! Would someone a bit more knowledgable on the WOODBURY family please help me sort out the conflicting information I am finding on Ancestry Trees for the parentage of Abraham WOODBURY? Abraham seems to have been born in March of 1835 probably in Maine and in about 1865 married Jane S. HUNT. I first find him on the 1870 census in Kingsbury Maine. I find 2 trees online that give Abraham's parents as Israel WOODBURY b. 1790 in New Gloucester, Maine and Abigail SPENCER. And one tree that gives Abraham as the son of Israel's son, Israel WOODBURY b. 1818 in Hartland, Maine m. Mary Ann BADGER. Trouble with the WOODBURY/BADGER idea is they were married in about 1848 in Maine which would have made Abraham already about 13 years old??? Was there a first marriage for son Israel? What is really tantilizing me here is that I live about 10 minutes from New Gloucester, Maine and could check anything there if I knew what to look for. Any thoughts or clarification here would be most welcome.

One family site claims Mary Woodbury born 1676 with parents Thomas Woodbury and Elizabeth West . Another site claims Mary West also born in 1676 with parents Thomas West and Elizabeth Jackson.
I thought that Elizabeth West was married to Joseph Woodbury and later to Isaac Woodbury.
Isaac Woodbury and Mary Wilkes

Hello. Why is this couple listed by submitters on Search files as being either the son or daughter in law of both Humphrey Woodbury or William Woodbury?
If Salem, Mass. Vital Records lists "Isaack, s. Humphry, bp.4:12m. 1643 C.R.I. Salem VR Pg.441, and Beverly, Mass. V.R. gives him a marriage date of Oct 9, 1671 to Mary Wilkes, why is he confused with an older cousin of the same name born in 1626 or 1630, depending on the Search file? Also, his will was supposedly probated in 1726, making a birthdate of 1626 ot 1630 a bit improbable.
Another question. Does anyone have a list of his children?
Thank you for any help. LD

I think they lived in the New England area -- probably Vermont. This couple had 8 children - Leander, Amelia Caroline, Ludia, Lyman, Frelon Jesse, William E, Alice O, and (my grandfather) Albert Woodbury.

Rebecca Woodbury early 1800's

Greetings, all -

I am not a Woodbury, but came across the name Rebecca Woodbury while researching an ancestor who apparently married her before he married the woman who was my ancestor.

Per the Massachusetts Centinal Marriage Notices, Rebecca married Solomon Brega 20 Nov 1813 in Providence, MASS. She is listed as being from Salem, and he, from Philadelphia.

If anyone on this list is descended from Rebecca (or otherwise related), I'd like to hear from you, particularly if you can tell me anything about Solomon. I'd also like to know what became of Rebecca. In the mid-late 1800's, Solomon was married to Anne Moore, and living in Ontario, publishing a newspaper.

In order not to clog up the list with non-Woodbury material, you may email me privately at: celticblues5@hotmail.com

Thanks so much for your time!

Judith Brega McMahon

Hi. There are many contradictory records on Ancestry World tree sites about Israel's parents, a few claiming his father as William Woodbury born 1662 married to Joanna Wheeler, others claiming Humphrey Woodbury born 1646 and Ann Winder (Window) as his parents. Some sites give Vital Records and LDS files as sources.
On Mary, they give different grandparents of either William or John Dodge. Queries: Who are Israel's parents? Who are Mary Woodbury's maternal grandparents? Mother is Hannah Dodge, born 1671, who seems to be general consensus.
Thank you for any help. LD

I am trying to solve which Sarah Bray is the one that married Thomas Witham in 1756. There are 4 Sarah Bray's born between 1731 and 1743 in Gloucester, Essex, MA. Sarah b. 21 Dec 1731 dau. Aaron Bray\Elizabeth Davis. Sarah b. 15 Jan 1734 and 21 Nov 1743 dau. of Nathaniel Bray\Sarah Haskell. Question did the 1st Sarah die? Another Sarah Bray b. 9 Jun 1736 dau. John BRAY\Susanna Woodbury. One of these Sarah Bray's married William Goodrich 9 Dec 1755. Another Sarah Bray m. Joseph Flagg 9 Nov 1767.
I have posted photographs of the late 17th century gravestones of Nicholas and Anna Woodberry/Woodbury of Beverly, MA. They are in the "Ancient Burying Ground," also known as the "Abbot St. Burying Ground." Carved in slate, they are about as crisp as the day they were made.

The message window won't allow me to type the links below all on one line, so you may have to copy and paste into your address window to go there, or however your browser works.
Violett Bosworth & John Woodbury

Violett Bosworth, b. 16 Oct 1789 d. 18 Feb 1871, was the 4th wife of John Woodbury, b. 17 Mar 1777 Barre, MA. They lived in Richfield, Otsego Co. NY. There were no children, but she was step-mother to his children from previous wives. I have info that indicates she was a relative (either wife or daughter) of Israel Clark, who I suspect is related to my Timothy Clark, b. 3 June 1794 CT or MA. Timothy and his wife Sophia (Smith) Clark, named their first two children Woodbury and Violett. Sophia's mother Susan (Densmore) was a sister of John Woodbury's first wife Sophia. If anyone has information on Violett Bosworth - whether that's a married or maiden name, please reply, or contact me at rudyskid@hotmail.com. Thanks!
