Thank you for your response. I have an old picture with the writing on it but no date. Estimated age approx. early 30's, estimated time period from the clothes and hairstyle is circa 1880's. I am away from the museum for a few weeks and cannot send you a copy of the photo. However I will when I can if you are interested. Do you know of any connections of your Woodbury 's to either Matteson, Ensign, families?
Where do you think Eli Philbrook and Edson P. Woodbury were born and what area did they mostly live in?
Thanks,

Marilisa
muse_mhp2@yahoo.com

I hate to see a huge personal website go down, especially when my own site cited it a couple hundred times, and had (with the creator's permission) direct links to his images.

Does anyone know what has become of either "Your Woodbury/Ober Family Web Site" (formerly at http://www.woodburyober.com/),or its creator, Larry Wert, whose email address is also dead?

Did anyone manage to capture the site before it went down? (I began to capture its gravestone images a few months ago, but the site must have had about 5000 and I only got a couple hundred.)

I am in the process of contacting them and hopefully we can get it up and going again.

Right now the best source would be the one on MyFamily.com as you have been using this one.

Kris

Revolutionary War prison ship, Brooklyn, list of Woodbury names

The following Woodbury names are found on a list of prisoners kept aboard British ships in the East River of New York during the Revolution.

Woodbury, Herbert
Woodbury, Luke
Woodbury, Jacob
Woodbury, William
Woodbury, Robert
Woodbury, Nathaniel

It is unclear if these men were among the thousands who died while being held prisoner. Does anyone know anything about these six men, particularly Herbert and Luke. There was a Herbert Woodbury of Beverly, Mass., who is said to have skippered a merchant ship during the war. I have an ancestor, Luke Woodbury of Beverly, who at age 16 served with Glover's Marblehead regiment in 1776. Luke survived the war and his pension record makes no mention of ever being held prisoner. It was very common to have two or more Woodbury men of about the same age with the same given name so it is difficult to keep them sorted out.

Steve Lay
Hackettstown, N.J.

OBIT Rev. William B. Woodbury, Newark, Ohio, 12-27-1882

The Daily Advocate
Newark, Ohio
December 27, 1882

After a painful and protracted illness our esteemed friend and fellow pioneer, Rev. William B. Woodbury, has finally passed away - died while yet not much beyond middle life. He was a son of Benjamin Woodbury and Abigail Blanchard Woodbury, born in this county in 1825, and was therefore only 57 years and some months old at the time of his death, which occurred December 4, 1882. Nearly all the years of his life were spent near Granville. His father and mother died many years ago, more recently his brother, niece, daughter, and grandchild. The widow, a son, sister-in-law, and nephew survive him. A philosophical and christian resignation characterized his long and painful illness. He was a good man, always the advocate of temperance, freedom, patriotism and a pure morality. From the organization of the Pioneer Socirty until his death he was one of our faithful members, sometimes acting as chaplain. Mr. Woodbury was a man of fair talents and acquitted himself as well on the platform as a lecturer, and in the pulpit as a preacher of the Gospel. During the last 25 years he was pastor of a church in Liberty township; and also of one in Jersey township; and for sometime of a church in Reynoldsburg, also one in McConnellsville, and probably of some others at various times.

She was born in Pittsburg, PA on June 14, 1856 and died in Norfolk, NE on April 17, 1936. She is probably buried in one of the two cemeteries in Norfolk. The library there has that information. I believe her parents were born in Ireland, but I don't have any further information on where or their names. Bridgett is my husband's great grandmother.

I am seeking info on Horace Woodbury who married Wilhelmena Catherine Lipke (her maiden name). I believe they were married after 1880 in Minnesota. In 1892 she is listed as follows in her father's will: Wilhelmena C. Woodbury, 36, Cedar Lake Road, Minneapolis, MN. A clerk at the courthouse in Minneapolis said a man named Horace Woodbury also resided there at that time. I found a census listing for Horace W. Woodbury, age 6, son of Daniel and Elizabeth Woodbury in 1860, St. Paul, MN. He might be the one! Hope someone knows something about this family.

Thank you for posting this link. I am related to Pete Woodbury through his grandmother, Dora M. Irwin Lenig. His parents were Richard L. Woodbury and Olive A. Lenig, both born in Missouri.

I would love to hear from anyone who might be related to the Woodburys of Tarrant County.

Gretchen
researching Irwin family of Ulster Co., NY
