Recently it has been found, due to DNA testing, that my WOODELL family from Robeson Co. NC, is descended from a 1700s Goochland, VA family of WOODALLs.My great-great-great-grandfather was John Woodall/Woodell, born abt.1761 in VA. During the time of the Rev. War he lived in Johnston Co. NC, then moved on through Montgomery, Richmond, and Columbus Counties NC before settling about 1815 or the 1820s in Robeson Co., NC. He died there in 1833/34. My great-great-grandfather was John WOODELL, Jr., born in NC about 1800 and my great-grandfather was William James WOODELL, born in Robeson Co. NC, abt. 1830. My ancestor John Woodall/Woodell Sr. was married twice and had several sons and some daughters. His descendants moved on to different states but some apparently do still live in NC and in Robeson County. I learned of my family's connection to the WOODALLs through a male cousin of mine taking the WOODALL FAMILY DNA test. His Y-DNA matches descendants of sons of a John WOODALL born in Goochland Co. VA 1704-1710. Also, a descendant of Martin WOODALL, who also lived in Robeson Co.at the same time as my John WOODALL family, matched my cousin's DNA exactly. So perhaps some of the other Woodells who posted messages on this list are WOODALLs and should take the DNA test. The person tested, however, has to be a male who is a direct descendant of a WOODELL through the male line. Females do not qualify. The testing is done through FamilyTree DNA. If anyone wants more information, please let me know.
