Re: Beal Wooden (b. 1759 in MD) DNA results

Subsequent DNA results of mine regarding exact matches at 67 markers with other Beall descendants indicate that the most likely line of descent of Beal Woooden is indeed from the immigrant Alexander Beall b. 1649 Fife, St. Andrews, Scotland. I have matched exactly at 67 markers two descendants of Alexander Beall (born Alexander Bell, later changed name to Beall in America, but was still pronounced "Bell") who are descending from Alexander Beall through his son John Beall. Beal Wooden would not be the son of this John but the son of his son John Beall. The line of descent would then be...

Alexander Beall, John Beall & Verlinda MaGruder, John Beall & Keziah Wooden, Beal Wooden.

Once again, all male Woodens who are descending from any of the sons of Beal Wooden are really Bealls (Bells). Another interesting point to all of this is that it has also resulted in Beal Wooden descendants now being able to trace their line back through Verlinda MaGruder to the 1st and 2nd Earls of Argyll (Campbell) in Scotland and also back to Robert the Bruce and beyond. Beal is descended from Royal lines through Verlinda MaGruder which stretch back into Scotland, England, France, and many other European Nobility and Kings (From the Peerages)

Anyone wishing further information can contact me at my email.

Gary Wooden

Lainee,
I have a PDF file that I can send you via e-mail. It has two generation of Ransom Wooden descendents, which includes the time frame that you are interested in.
Some of the member stories in the file should not be considered a fact, since it is probably stories passed down from one generation to the next which, from experience I have found is usually not too accurate. The sources are included.
My e-mail address is lee_dungan@hotmail.com.
Lee

I have a Sarah Wooden/Woodin,born around 1760 who married a Zepheniah Townsend around 1783. They were in Dutchess Co., NY 1790 census then were in Putnam Co. for 1800 census, and Ulster Co. for 1810 census. After that they disappear.

Family lore states that Sarah's father was Henry Wooden/Woodin and her mother was Sarah Wright. I found a "Henry Wooden" listed on the 1777 Tax List of Phillipse Patent which is the right geographic area.

I would appreciate any information on Sarah that you might have and where you found it.

Kay

Beal Wooden (b. 1759 in MD) DNA results

I am a descendant of Beal Wooden who up to this point has proven a mystery to Wooden researchers in that he was always associated with the Woodens of MD and had been assumed to have been the son of John Wooden3. However, Beal did not show up in John Wooden's will or the will of his wife. He did seem to be associated with the family in that he lived nearby according to tax records. I had noticed that Beal had named his first daughter Keziah which had been the name of his supposed aunt who was the sister of John Wooden3. He had named his first son John. I also learned that Keziah Wooden had been indicted for bastardy in the year 1760 which was the year after Beal's birth and began to wonder if Keziah Wooden might have really been his mother and then suspected that she had named him Beal after the surname of the biological father.

To test this theory I decided to have my DNA tested. When the results came in I exactly matched or closely matched Beall men at 12, 25, 37 and higher markers. I had descended from Beal Wooden through his son Solomon Wooden. Solomon had been believed to be the son of Beal Wooden but no physical proof had ever been found. The fact that I am a Beall genetically proves two theories 1) that Keziah Wooden was the mother of Beal Wooden and that the father was a Beall and 2) that Solomon Wooden was the biological son of Beal Wooden.

DNA results seem to indicate that Beal Wooden was a decendant of Alexander Beall who was born in 1749 and immigrated to America from Scotland. Furthermore, my closest DNA matches indicate that the Beal was most likely descending through Alexander Beall's son John Beall. Subsequently I hired a genealogist in MD to see if he could locate the bastardy bond for Keziah Wooden hoping that it might name the father. The researcher did find the bastardy bond and it lists the name of the father as John Beal. I have deduced from this information that the likely father of Beal Wooden was John Beall, who was the son of John Beall who was the son of Alexander Beall. There are two other John Bealls who were about the right age to have fathered Beal Wooden. One was John Fendal Beall who descended from Alexander Beall's brother James Beall. The other John Beall is a descendant of Alexander Beall's son Ninian Beall (this is not Colonel Ninian Beall.) I most closely match descendants of Alexander's son John as I said above and that is why I believe that Beal's father was the John Beal I mentioned above.

My cousin Tim Freeman has the line of descent shown in his Freeman Family Tree on ancestry.com. Any male who is a direct descendant of Beal Wooden is really a Beall. The Maryland Bealls pronounced their name "Bell." I also believe that is why Beal is sometimes referred to as Beal Bell Wooden in some documents.

So, there you have it, a 249 year old mystery had been solved through the tool of DNA Study. For those of you so inclined, Beal's father, John Beall's mother was Verlinda MaGruder who was a descendant of King James IV of Scotland. This data can be seen at the Freeman Family Tree as well.

Anyone who would like to discuss this with me further can email me.
Hello
I am researching Wooden's from Chattanooga, Tennessee area also. I am at a brickwall on Fate/Fayette Wooden/Wooten. He was married 2nd to Deanie (she is listed in census as Venie, Linnie, Lennie). In 1930 census she is married to Charlie Dyke.
I found in a TN marriage record a Fate Wooten marries a Delia Millsap on 7 Aug 1904. This could be true because in the 1910 census it states they had been married 7 yrs (2nd marriage for both).
Children were Samuel, Pollie A, Mandy, Bessie, Harvey, Nellie, Carl, twins Edith & Ethel. Some were from his 1st marriage.
If anyone has information on these people. I would love to share info.

Thanks Tonia

Sarah/Sally WOODEN/WOODIN born in Tennessee about 1819-20ish
Sally shows in Hamilton County 1850 with husband Joseph W FARMER & several children. Does anyone have Sally or can anyone find a marriage date for these two. Rebecca Jane, their 1st child was born in December 1841 so I estimate the year of marriage as 1841 or shortly thereafter. They were enumerated in one of the "districts" in or near Chattanoga, I recall. This family emigrated to Dade County Missouri, likely in 1853.
Recently I found a copy of her death certificate and discovered i'm a WOODEN descendant as Sally was my GGGG Grandmother.
Any Cousins out there? Or anyone who can provide info from a marriage record? It is possible Orrin WOODEN was the father of Sally, but I want to be sure.
Thanks!
Jim A in Nevada

Jones, they both lived and died in Chattanooga, they are
buried in Greenwood Cemetary, in Chattanooga, some of the census
and cemetary records show them as Wooten.

I am transcribing the Evergreen Cemetary in Ontario, Malheur Co., Oregon and thought I would post pictures of the Pre-1900 headstones for those interested in having them. This is a very large cemetary, there is a possibility there could be other family members buried here after this time period. If you are interested in them, I can look for them specifically.

I think I have a bit of information on Harvey Wooden. He and wife, Myrtle Anderson are buried in Chamberville Cem., in Washington twp., Owen, Indiana. I have this family in Census from 1910-1930. I couldn't find a marriage record for them. The cemetery has only birth and death years and I have no further information on them. Harvey was born in 1879 and died in 1939. This is the same year as the death of one of their daughters who is buried nearby. Myrtle Anderson (the daughter of Ann Rebecca Pilcher and James or Joseph H. Anderson) was born in Nov 1878 (1900 census and tombstone) and died in 1950. In 1910 they were living in Harter twp., Clay, Illinois. In 1920 they lived in Wayne twp., Owen, Indiana. In 1930 they were in BeanBlossom twp., Monroe, Indiana. They had nine children that I found. Most of the information I found from lists of children from the census, then found a bit more information from obits of two of the siblings then SS from that.
1. Conie P. (Social Security) b: 23 Jun 1901 in IL. d: 10 Feb 2000, probably in Morgan County, IN. Married someone named Beaman.
2. Lora A. b: abt 1903 was dead before the death of Montie Wooden in 1999...could have been anytime 1930-1999. Nothing on marriages.
3. Althea Amanda b: 9 Oct 1903 d: 16 Mar 1971 buried in a different section of the Cemetery that her parents are buried in. Apparently never married.
4. Lola E. b: abt 1906...nothing further.
5. Nelvin N. or Melvin b: 27 May 1908 d: 20 Sep 1996, probably in Indianapolis.
6. Montie Elberta b: 26 Nov 1909 d: 8 Mar 1999, Greenwood, IN unmarried teacher. Former president of Indiana Teacher's Association. buried in Chambersburg Cemetery (this is the obit I found on GenealogyBank.com.
7. Bert L. b: 8 Aug 1912 d: Dec 1982 probably in Shelbyville, IN.
All the children above were born in Illinois. The last two were born in Indiana
8. Eunice O. b: 1916 d: 1939 buried with parents
9. Nathan H. b: abt 1923 d: 8 Apr 2006 in Bradenton, Fla. married Helen Whaley I found this obit also.
Did James by any chance have a daughter Mary Jane? My 2nd great grandmother was Mary Jane born about February 1852. In 1870 census I find her married to James L. Fisher...they list their ages here as (if I remember correctly) 14 (James) and 12 (Mary Jane). This is a major brick wall and Mary Jane's maiden name comes from a grandchild that gives the information for the obituary/death info of Mary Jane's daughter...will have to go looking for that death info...can't seem to locate it right now...am getting ready for work.

Mary Jane and James Fisher named their children:

William Franklin Fisher born about 1876
Jesse S. Fisher born about 1881
Ada M. Fisher born about 1886
Milton Edward Fisher born about 1892

In every census I find Mary Jane in she is born in Missouri.

Re: Isaac Harrison Wooden

Isaac Harrison Wooden b. 8 Dec 1801 Henry Co., Kentucky d. 30 Aug 1865 Carroll Co., MO married 3 Dec 1822 (Marriage Return 24 Dec 1822), was the son of Beal Wooden, b. abt 1759 Maryland died 1831 Henry Co., Kentucky, and Elinor Lewis b. abt 1764 Maryland d. abt 1818 Henry Co., Kentucky. Beal was probably born in Baltimore where he took the Oath of Allegiance in 1781. In 1790 the Woodens were located in Washington Co., Maryland near Clear Springs. By 1795 when Thomas Wooden was born they were in Kentucky where Elinor's father, John Lewis, had gone earlier. Rebecca was the daughter of William Stephenson and Rebecca Robison/Robeson/Robertson/Robinson? She was probably the youngest child of 8 or 9 children.

Isaac and Rebecca's first son, Benjamin (my ancestor), was born in Kentucky 26 Oct 1823. By the time the second child, Rebecca, was born 5 Dec 1824, they were living in Fountain County, Indiana -as was Rebecca's brother John Edward Stephenson. The Woodens moved to Missouri before 1840 and are listed in the 1840 census of Carroll Co., Missouri. They had 17 children, 15 of whom lived to adulthood

I am interested in finding info that you have on Thomas WOODEN. I belive he may be a brother to one of my greats - Mary "Polly" WOODEN RAINS. She was born 1800-1810 in Tennssee (according to census data). She married Hiram RAINS on Blount County in 1827. She was in Monroe County in 1830, Bradley County in 1840. She lived mostly in Cleveland surrounding area, but also lived in Murray COunty, GA.

Re: Wooden Family in Tennessee

I too am researching this line. John Houston Wooden married Lilly Paschal Jones from Alabama. Lilly passed away on Christmas eve 1974. Their children were Nancy Wooden Reynolds (Ernest) Ball, Sterling (Trula), Beatrice Wooden (Clarence) McDade, William (Bill), and Martha Wooden (Albert) Evitt. John Houston Wooden was born in Bradley County, TN. He is the son of Beckie Thomas Wooden and Jim Wooden. John's brothers and sisters were Frank who married Annie Gray, Bennett, Callie, Muncie who married Guy Brown, and Martha who married a Jolly. Jim and Beckie are buried in an abandond cemetery next to their son Bennett. Rebecca Thomas Wooden is the daughter of Sarah Evaline Price and Benjamin Franklin Thomas. Jim Wooden is the son of Martha Brown and J.W. Wooden. You may already have this information, however, I am still working on this line, so if you have any additional information that you can share I would appreciate it.
