We have a George Woodford in our line, but it is in Chester England in the 1800's. The earliest we have gone back is to a Robert Woodford who married a Caldecott. His birth was around 1810 in Chester. Do you know where the Thomas Woodford lived? You can respond to my email directly at: geof01@telus.net

I am responding to an "old" post so don't know if I will get a response or not.
My grandfather's half brother was George W. Woodford b.1835 in Noble Co., Ohio. George married Mary Delila Davis on 1856 in Noble Co. They moved out west. I show they had a son Isaac b 1869 and d. 1875 in Norwalk, Warren Co, Iowa.

I don't have any information on George going forward, but I do have information going back to the immigrant Thomas Woodford b 1610.

Janice

John Howe Woodford b. 1797 Barbour County, Virginia - need help on one of his grandchildren

I am wondering if there is anyone who can help me on this Woodford family line...in particular, the children of John Harvey Woodford? John Harvey is the son of John Howe Woodford b. 1797 in Virginia. Here is my problem...

I have been searching the census records to clarify information contained in other records on the internet and have found some apparent discrepancies. The 1870 Pleasant Township, Barbour County, West Virginia census shows that John Harvey Woodford had 8 children...one of those children had the name of Cleophus (or Cleophas)...this child is listed as age 15 and is listed as a MALE...he is also listed as "farmer"....he was also listed in the 1860 census with this same family.

The 1880 census (in the same area)...the family names change...and Cleophus is no longer listed with the family...but there are still 4 children listed...including 2 from the 1870 census...Ora and Minnie...BUT there are 2 that I don't recognize.

In the 1870 census...there is a Nancy listed...the middle initial is hard to read...but in the 1880 census...a child by the name of Hernissa is listed...after reviewing the actual census...and other family trees...and the ages...I have come to believe that Nancy and Hernissa are the same person...the spelling in the 1880 census index is WRONG...it appears it should be Xerisse - Can anyone verify this for me?

Then there is the real problem...In the 1880 census...the remaining child listed is Isis C...she is 15 years old...in reviewing the 1870 census...there was NO child exactly 5 years old...but there was a 6 year old...listed as Leia (in the index)...however, this really could be Icia...In looking at other family trees...there appears to be an Icia in the family born about 1864...so that matches...BUT there is also an ISIS C...

I really need help with this...the family trees show that Isis' full name is Isis Cleophus...but Cleophus is a male according to the 1860 and 1870 census records. I can find no subsequent record of Cleophus anywhere after the 1870 census. I find a marriage record for Isio Cleophas to William F. Snider in 1888...but then that messes up the issue of whether or not there is an Isio or Isis or if they are one in the same person!!

Does anyone have any accurate information about this family? It is my belief that Isis and Isio are one in the same...and Cleophus is not her middle name. It is my belief that Cleophus is her brother and that he either died or moved out of the area which is why I can't find him....but I would greatly appreciate any help at all!! These family trees have so much wrong information that I want to try to "fix" my information before I continue to perpetuate the errors. Thank you so very much!!!
I'm trying to research my family history, and have hit a dead end with my grandfather Marion Woodford (b. 1866 in OH). He married Francis Williams (b. 1869 PA) and they had 7 kids (James, Stella, Perry, Earl, Candace, Albert, Irene). I haven't found anything on the 1870 or 1880 census. Any help would be great!

Perhaps you can help. I have gone back as far as Robert Woodford, b1820 in Cheshire county, married to Elizabeth Caldecott, and haven't been able to find any previous ancestors. His desendands were George Edward (b1847) and Robert Woodford (b1879).

Any connection?

I have been researching the descendants of Robert Woodford b1820 in Cheshire county. He married Elizabeth Caldecott, and his children, George Edward Woodford, Robert Woodford, and Hubert Woodford (my father)who was born in Ruabon, Wales.

I suspect a connection, since I have found few Woodfords other than these in that area so far. Ruabon is very close to Chester, so perhaps there is reasons Robert Woodford moved there from Chester in the late 1890's.

I seem to have the same ancestors going back to Marion Woodford and Francis Williams. I haven't been able to go back father than that either, but according to my mother (Irene's daughter) that the Williams side had a lawsuit against Philadelphia over some land grants dating back to William Penn time, but I haven't been able to confirm that. Legend had it that the family lost not only the lawsuits, but a whole lot of money too.

Marion Williams died Oct.12, 1941 and Francis Williams died in 1950, both in Ohio, this is from my mom, I show that Irene Stevenson (Woodford) died on July 2, 1990 in Kent Washington and was buried next to her husband Warren Stevenson back there in Ohio. This is from my mom, Marion and Francis great grand daughter.
Ltd..

All of these companies were run by the industrialist Henry Dyke Dennis, of New Hall in Ruabon, and the company offices of all of Dennis' companies were in High Street, Ruabon.

The Woodfords lived in The Bryn, a large house formerly on the outskirts of Ruabon, but at around that time most of the Bryn Hall estate had been sold (by the Dennis family) for housing development as the Bryn Fields.

The house remained and was puchased by the Roman Catholic Church in the 1950s and used as its church until the 1980s.

Ian

(1851-2), and Adaline Sarah [AKA Addie](1854-5). All the children except Mary were born in Gallia Co., Ohio. The family eventually moved to Rulo, Richardson Co., Nebraska. Census records show the parents were born in Wales (Thomas 1802-3 and Elizabeth 1809-10). A Thos. Woodford (age 27), possibly the Thomas of this family, immigrated from Bristol, England, to New York on the Cosmo on 04 Jan 1830. His suspected brother John Woodford (age 30) and wife Martha and children Thos. (3), William (2), and Mary (1) were on the same ship. I am looking for descendents that might know the ancestry of Thomas and/or John Woodford and Thomas' wife Elizabeth.

I believe we may have a connection. I am related to Hubert Esmond Whitwell Woodford known as Hugh he was a banker in British Columbia Canada who was born 1907 & died 1995. He was the son of Robert Woodford b 1873 & Martha Whitwell b 1880 in Wales. I have been trying to find his son Geoffrey Edward Woodford. i don't know how this works so you can contact me by writing to P O Box 167 Montagu 6720 RSA.
Im not sure if obit is him but certainly appears to be.
