I have some unsubstantiated information that the Amanda Elizabeth Woodring that married Henry Clay Johnson may have been the daughter of John Worting and Catherine. Don’t know when the spelling of the last name changed. Any of this sound familiar to anyone?

Bob, I closest I can come, geographically, is James Stephen,
b. 1859, VA, living in Sioux county, NE (next to Dawes county) on the 1880 census, Snake Creek Station, living with a William Johnson. I don't find him on later census reports.
Did James and Elma have children?
The time period James and Elma were in Dawes county would have been a very hard existance. The blizzard of 1888 changed many Nebraskans lives.
The latest I find Elma, is on the 1930 census, widowed, living with dau. Adeline and s.i.l. John S. Hutchins in CO.
I fear it is unlikely you will find your James Stephen if he died pre 1890 in NE.
I wonder about the James Stephen in Sioux county. What would bring him out to that area of NE? Maybe a scout for the military???
Sorry couldn't be of more help.
Jean

I have been tracking my Great Grandparents for years now. I have them narrowed to Frontier County Ne. in 1893. At least I found the following;
James R. Stephen and his wife Elma Stephen bought a farm in Dawes Co. near Chadron, in 1887. In 1888 they lost the farm due to legalities, and unpaid bills. I have no info on thier marriage. Her maiden name is Julia Elma Woodring. Her father Cyrus Woodring died in 1900 in Salem Ne. Her Mother Mary died there shortly after.
I have no info on James R. Stephen, where he lived, was born, died?I don't know if they divorced, or if he left her.
Cyrus' kids; Hiram,Clara May, and Clarence W. all lived in Frontier Co. I have some info on thier decendants.
Lucy Mc Cants died there in April of 1892. On Aug 17, 1893 My Great grandmother married George M. Mc Cants ( I believe in Stockville Ne.)
Is there a record of that marriage somewhere? Any info on the fate of James R. Stephen? Any leads you can direct me to?
Thanks, Bob Stephen

We definitely have American Indian in us. I feel it not only spiritually but with the words my own mother had said for years and the things that she had experienced -- both as a child and adult. I will never be convinced that we are not part American Indian and I will prove it one day. According to my church it's almost impossible to trace the lineage of our ancestry if they are American Indian as they didn't keep records many years back. It's in us and its been there since the first true native American stepped foot in America. Many of my friends say they can tell by my photos also. I might post one tonight and one of my mother.

Yes I will let you know how the test turn out when I have them done :)

As I said in my last reply, every Pine I meet tells me that we have Indian in us.I have yet to find the connection.I have been researching since 2002, and I have went back to the year 1580.I have a direct line back to England, so if we have Indian blood in us I would like to know myself. As far as the Lenni-Lenape tribe traveling through the town you grew up in has nothing to do with the Pine family considering the New Jersey Pine's went from Cape May, to Blackwood and then to Gloucester. So the Pine Family was already well establish before they went to your town of Gloucester. If you decide to get the genetic testing could you let me know how it works out for you.

From a conversation from a friend that has been supporting me in this...had said that the American Indians I speak of she believes is the Lenni- Lenape tribe. They did travel through the town I grew up in when In New Jersey. I have a web site showing their tracks. I was excited to know they were once there in my home town. So there could be a connection there.

Ok if this clears it all up...

My mother spoke of the american Indians a lot. (Sarah Jane Lonabaugh) She told me that her family was decendants of the American Indians of South Jersey. I was very close to my mother....

And...

For all that it's worth...she was soo curious of her background (as she needed answers) she attended seances with a family memeber that lived across the street from us. Her name was Viola...I called her aunt Vi. Well to make a long story short -- An American Indian had revealed himself and stood behind her, smiling. My mother didn't move an inch as she felt his presence. He then put his arm around her and she said "you are big wompum" and my aunt said he was telling her that she was worth much. The entire table watched him as he had a strong attachment to my mother (I wasn't there as she wouldn't allow me to )He stood there in "Chief" attire. The Indian was very strong spiritually as the seance progressed. He told her and the group that he and others of the reservation was keeping a watchful eye on her family. (she heard his voice but still did not turn around to look at that time) He would not leave her side. There was many other spirits there that night as my mother told me. Most were American Indians. I have been getting a lot of slack over the fact that I continue to pursue the many conversations I had during my life with my mother. My sister still deny's this truth of who we are. Somehow or someday I pray to prove my heritage. My mother had always known but after making contact in the spirit world -- she was then convinced. I could write much more about this subject but time won't allow tonight. I had started the first string with "lil love falcon" as it is my yahoo account but had always felt a connection to that name. Also I need to say that the seance my mother attended was not at all evil. And to this day I feel the protection of my spirit family and had miracles in my life that were documented to my church. I know all that my mother felt that night because I still feel it today. Before she even went to that seance, she told me we were part American Indian. I know it and feel it. I hope there is someone out there that can help clarify it. I was told that I could even get genetic screening -- I am so willing. Thank you everyone for the help in my search and such kind words. it was also nice to see that there are Indians in another state even with the name Pine :)

Happy in the truth,
Wendy

Hi, I've been reading up on Billy Bryson's half brother, Dr. John R. Brinkley. John R. Brinkley was famous for implanting goat reproductive glands into men with a claim it would improve virility. He became very rich and very famous. An interesting story. The university of KY published a book about him entitled The Bazaar Careers of John R. Brinkley. I'd really like to learn more about Billy Bryson, Alice's Husband. I'd appreciate any information you have. By the way, Bascom was my grandfather. He was married to Ollie Gunter. My dad is Hubert Gentry Bryson married to Mazana Cauble.

That is part of what I am trying to find out as well as I my husband says his grandparents are from IN, my grandparents (Snyder were from IL but married into Scott family in MS). When I found that his grandmother was a Snyder as well, I started looking. I do not have any living relatives that remember enough to tell me names and relations unfortunately. So am anxiously awaiting information that will allow me to either connect the two or not. It would be wonderful to find new leads on both families at once.
