I saw a 5 year old post from you on Ancestry about Hulbirts from Lovelton, and Ceilan and Mary Miller Hulbirt, and Sela Hulbirt.

Mary Miller was my grandfather's sister, and Mary and Ceilan's
daughter was Hazel Hulbirt Case, whom I new when I was young (I was 8 when Hazel died). You can imagine that I am curious as to your connection. If this gets to you, I'd be interested in comparing trees.

Frances ('Fannie') Woodruff, first wife of John Miller of New York...

Hello: I am writing on behalf of my extended family in Monroe, MI to try and get some background on the first wife of my 2-Greats Grandfather, John Miller. John was one of several children of a Josiah Miller and mother who is unknown in name to me at this time. John was born either in the Sarasota or Auburn area of New York State...Frances W. is supposedly also from the NY area as well. John and Frances/Fannie had a number of children; their first born Lucien was born in New York and the rest, Josiah G., Cynthia, Lovisa/Louisa, John F., Fannie, and Sophia were purported to be born in Michigan. John and Frances came to Michigan before it was even a state, either along or before/after other Miller relatives, and settled in the Monroe Co. area of Michigan, which is the Southeast corner of the state. John and Frances, like the others in our family, were farmers and settled the area and prospered along with their neighbors...by seeing maps of the area, I know for a fact that a number of my family members lived not too far from each other, which makes sense in those times. In late 1848 or early 1849, Francis (Woodruff) Miller passed this life, and was buried in the Monroe Township cemetery on what is called Schwartz Road, in the LaSalle, MI area...just South of the City of Monroe.
In late 1849, John remarried to a Betsey Adeline Brown, and had three more children, which is where myself and my family come in...but that is another story.
I am hoping there is someone out there that has a relation either by the Woodruff side or even the Miller side that might have more information on Frances and her family...be it the names of her mother and father...of what lineage they hail from (English/Scottish/etc?), and any other bits of information that may be available. I would really like to help my relatives out in the Monroe area by this information, so if you have anything at all...be it a little or a lot or inbetween, please get back with me and let us try to share some information...it would help me undertand more about a part of my family that is distant at this point, and would be a great insight to those directly related to Frances and John. Please help if you can. Thanks for your time. JAM

DNA Testing Discount for Woodruff DNA Project

The primary testing company for the Woodruff DNA Project has announced a discount on their 37-marker Y-DNA test available through June 24, 2009. The project also offers an additional discount. The discounted testing includes a free basic mitochondrial DNA test which yields information on the direct maternal line. This is a great deal and now would be a great time for Woodruff (and all variations) males to join the project and get the 37-marker Y-DNA test along with an mtDNA test for a great price. For more details, see the project's join page at http://dna.woodruffgenealogy.net/join.htm#joinstep1.

Several Woodruff males from various Woodruff lineages have joined the project and been tested (see the project's results page at http://dna.woodruffgenealogy.net/results.htm). We are always seeking more males from all Woodruff lines (including all variations such as Woodroof, Woodroffe, etc.) to join the project and get tested so we can find out more about the origins of the various Woodruff lineages and the relationships among the various lines and surname variations.

Mike
__________________________________
Project Administrator
Woodruff DNA Project
http://dna.woodruffgenealogy.net
Joseph F. Woodruff b. 1825 NY

I am looking for information on the Parents of Joseph F. Woodruff born in 1825 in NY. He married Anna Marie Coddington and lived in the Ulster Co. area and died in NYC. His death certificate shows his parents as Clarissa Fountain and Joseph Woodruff. I think the father, Joseph Woodruff, could tie into the Woodruffs of Milford, CT. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Carol Furst Matulonis biscofl@gmail.com

I'm still looking for the parents of Patillo Woodruff, father of J.C. (your great grandfather) and Thomas (my great grandfather and brother of J.C.). My husband and I traveled to Russellville, AL in 2007 and met Woodruff cousins and visited the cemetery where we all believe Patillo is buried (no marker).

I am looking for birth information for Harvey Claud WOODRUFF, my great grandfather. His birth year is about 1883, according to his WWII draft card, in Gersberg (possibly Garysburg?), North Carolina. He worked on the railroads all his life, particularly the B&O and C&O. His birth name may have been WOODROOF, because my grandmother says his wife, Sallie DUNFORD changed the spelling of the name (Sal was a pistol). He had a sister (I do not know her name) and a brother, Herbert. If anyone has any information, please email me at swwoodsy@yahoo.com.
There is a town named after a Woodruff located of course in Woodruff, NJ, Cumberland County. Includes a street named Woodruff Rd, a Woodruff United Methodist Church and a small cemetery right behind the church where what appears to be several Woodruffs are buried. Some of the tomb stones are so old that it is difficult to read them to retrieve the dates. There is a John S. Woodruff, his wife Elizabeth and a daughter Alli. Other names that may have a connection to the Woodruffs in that cemetery are Horner, Husted, Rogers, Fox, Carmela.

I have a great grandmother by the name of Lottie H. Woodruff who resided in Southern New Jersey.

David Woodruff, U.S. Army, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. He will be buried on April 22 in St. Louis, Mo.

Representatives from the Army’s Mortuary Office met with Woodruff’s next-of-kin to explain the recovery and identification process on behalf of the Secretary of the Army.

Woodruff was assigned to Company K, 3rd Battalion, 9th Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. In early 1951, the 2nd ID was augmented by Republic of Korea (R.O.K.) forces and was occupying positions near Hoengsong, South Korea. On Feb. 11, the Chinese Army launched a massive attack on the U.S. line, overwhelming R.O.K. forces and exposing the American flank. The 2nd ID was forced to withdraw to the south and Woodruff was captured by enemy forces. He died in, or near, one of the North Korean prison camps in Suan County, North Hwanghae Province.

Between 1991-94, North Korea turned over to the United States 208 boxes of remains believed to contain the remains of 200-400 U.S. servicemen. One box turned over in 1991 contained Woodruff’s military identification tag, and a box turned over in 1992 contained remains recovered from Suan County.

Among other forensic identification tools and circumstantial evidence, scientists from JPAC and the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory also used mitochondrial DNA and dental comparisons in the identification of the remains turned over in 1992.

For additional information on the Defense Department’s mission to account for missing Americans, visit the DPMO Web site at http://www.dtic.mil/dpmo or call (703) 699-1169.
