DJ champ's debut CD
From the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, first published Wednesday 23rd Jul 2003.
A WORLD champion DJ has released his first official CD which was recorded, designed and distributed by his Burnley friends.
Lee Woodvine, aka DJ Woody, has just put the finishing touches to his first CD, Bangers and Mash.
The two-times world scratch DJ champion has put together a mix of British hip hop records which have shaped his award winning career.
Woody was the first European to be crowned World Scratch DJ champion by the International Turntablists Federation in 2001 and last year added the Vestax World Champion to his titles.
His debut release is a homage to the records which he began to collect over ten years ago, including British hip hop artists London Posse, Krispy 3, Roots Manuva, Caveman and the Ruthless Rap Assassins which all feature on the CD.
Lee, 26, said: "British hip-hop was the theme for the project. I've been buying British hip-hop records from Astonishing Sounds in Burnley, and when it used to be based in Blackburn, for about ten years.
"So I thought it would be nice to put together a reasonable retrospective of what I've been listening to."
And DJ Woody has been given a hand by friends in Burnley who helped him get the project off the ground.
He added: "The sketches on the cover were done by a Burnley artist called Curse and the distribution has been organised by someone from Burnley who works for a Manchester company.
"So it was all done here in Burnley, which I suppose is a good thing."
Bangers and Mash is available at independent record stores across the country and Woody is hoping it will help to raise his profile even further.
But after winning two world titles, an appearance on Radio 1's Breezeblock show with Mary Anne Hobbs and European tour dates, it looks as though Woody is already well set on the road to international acclaim.
