There is a Theron Woodworth in the profile of Luther Woodworth in the book "Early Pioneers of Cleveland". Theron's first wife was Cordelia Joslin/Joslyn of Kirtland Ohio, after her death Theron remarried- a Rebecca Graham. I have no further info on Theron after that-he and Cordelia had I think a son Luther Woodworth in 1834,-no other children that I have found-in the 1850 census he is living in Kenosha County Wisconsin with his Uncle-Amasa Chandler Joslyn. and later,he had a son he named Luther Eddy Woodworth. There are alot of Woodworths in Kenosha County WI in that era and an early township named Woodworth. Sorry if this old info-am new.

Nancy Woodworth 1793 Essex, Vermont

I am searching for the burial location of my 5th Great Grandmother Nancy Woodworth Higgins.

Higgins-Sister Nancy Higgins was born at Essex Vt., March 31, 1793; was converted at abouth the age of twenty years, united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, and for sixty years led a consistent Christian life. On Sept. 23, 1878, at Fort Howard, Wis., after a brief illness, she passed away calmly trusting in her Savior. Her faith in Jesus had robbed the grave of its terrors and death of his sting. She was heard to exclaim, just as the eye was being glazed in death and the cold dew was falling upon her brow; " O! death where is thy sting?" Her end was peace. She leaves a son and a daughter. Jesse Cole

Died September 23rd, 1878, in Fort Howard, at the residence of her Son in Law, Mr, Philo Graves; Mrs Nancy Higgins, in the 81st year of her age. Mother Higgins was born in the State of Vermont. Some 40 years ago her husband died, leaving to her care a family of small children; but faithfully amid all the trials of her widowed life did she perform her work. As her reward, she now bears with her to her home above, the deepest love and veneration of her bereaved family; may God comfort them. Mother Higgins was one of those kind, gentle persons that never had an enemy. All woh knew her, loved her. On the 25th, her remains were taken to Maple Grove for burial, where the proper funeral services were conducted, and a large circle of relatives and friends following her to the grave. Those who saw her in her last hours could not help adopting the language of the Psalmist and, " Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his.

I believe that the Maple Grove that they are speaking of is the Maple Grove in Shawano county, but I have not been able to locate any information on the exact location. Would anyone know of a Methodist Episcopal cemetery in the Maple Grove area.

The following is a family register for Jonathan & Nancy Higgins for 4 generations.

Descendants of Jonathan Higgin

1 Jonathan Higgins b: 21 Dec 1786 in Chesterfield, Hampshire, MA d: 03 Oct 1831 in Heuvelton, St. Lawrence County, New York........+Nancy Woodworth b: 31 Mar 1793 in Essex, Chittenden, Vermont d: 23 Sep 1873 in Fort Howard, Brown, Wisconsin

... 2 Unknown Higgins b: Abt. 1814 in Heuvelton, St. Lawrence, New York d: 01 Jul 1828 in Heuvelton, St. Lawrence, New York

... 2 Louisa Higgins b: 16 Mar 1820 in Heuvelton, St. Lawrence County, New York d: Bet. 1870 - 1873 in Appleton, Outagamie County, Wisconsin....... +Samuel D Clark b: 1813 in Middlebury, Addison, Vermont, USA d: 27 Mar 1877 in Franklin, Manitowoc, WI, USA

......... 3 Franklin H. I think the Jesse Cole who wrote the first obit may have been a fellow member of the church and it might have been a church publication that the first obit was listed in.
Indian Ancestry (Ojibwe)

I've been trying to find my rumored Indian ancestry for years now. I recently found the Swartwouts (my ancestors) listed on an Ojibwe ancestry website, but there's no clear connection written to Ojibwe ancestry so I'm looking for any help on interpreting the website below as well as any rumors or information on were that ancestry is located. As well as the link, I have included areas of my ancestry where the Indian blood could come from:

http://www.ojibwe.info/RedLake/HTML/people/p00000ot.htm

The Swartwout family is on my dad's side. My great grandfather passed down stories in our family (and his siblings in their families) of Indian blood (thought to be Ojibwe) which in their time was not to be spoken of...so I'm guessing records may have been doctored at some point to show only European ancestry. The story was that it was only 2-3 generations before him. There's another rumor of Indian ancestry from the MicMac tribe as a result of rape back in the 17-1800's, but it could be that these rumors point to the same ancestry and the details of which tribe just got mixed up.

It would have at least been back in the 1800's if not the 1700's. My great grandfather was Francis Hendricks. His mother and father were Francisco Hendricks (who looks 25% Indian but records show he's European...so perhaps one of his biological parents wasn't one who raised him) and Anna Hartman.
-----
Anna's parents were John Henry Hartman (birth name was Henry Meyer and he's definitely 100% German) and Louise Dingman. We have only one photo of Louise Dingman of mediocre quality and she looks like she might have Indian blood.
-----
Louise's parents were Jacob Dingman and Phobe/Phoebe Tripp. We have a photo of Phoebe and she looks completely European so if her daughter Louise is part Indian as she appears in the photo, then either Jacob is part Indian or Phobe had an encounter with an Indian and Louise was born of a different father.
-----
Jacob's parents were Peter Dingman and Margaret Gardinier.

Phobe/Phoebe Tripp's parents were Charles Tripp and Jane E. Woodworth.
-----
Peter Dingman's parents were Johannes (John) Dingman and Mareytje Muller.
-----
Johannes's parents were Jacob Dingman and Eva Swartwout.
-----
Eva's parents were Roeloff Swartwout and Eva Albertz Bradt.

So the Swartwout's could be another source of Indian blood or perhaps it's just further back than we originally thought.

My line descends from ROSWELL WOODWORTH b 1758 Norwich, New London, CT; d 16 Jan 1812 in Wells, Rutland Co., VT. Wife PHEBE/PHOEBE PARKER, b 1764 Wells, Rutland Co., VT; d 1852 Java, Wyoming Co., NY. Wife was ELECTA EVANS b 10 Nov 1798 (from her cem. marker), somewhere in NY; d Manlius Twp., Bureau Co., IL on 26 Feb. 1881 (cem. marker). Marr believed 15 Jun 1815 - no location known by me.

Seeking proof of all of Hosea's info, Electa's birthplace, and proof of their marr date and location.

I have birth, death, and marr info for the only child I know - ELECTA P.
Rosewood Steinway grand piano originally owned by (a) Woodworth(s) in Rochester, New York

In 1957 or 1958, my mother purchased a magnificent roseword Steinway demi-grand (7'3") piano that was made in 1877 or 1879 by Steinway & Co. in New York, whose records indicate that it was first sold by Steinway to someone named Woodworth in Rochester, New York in 1879. Steinway's records end with the piano's original Woodworth owner. The piano has been in my family home in Rochester ever since 1957-8. I do not know whether my mother purchased it directly from someone in the Woodworth family, whether it was sold through an estate, or whether there was/were another owner/s in between its original owner and my family.

There are quite a few Woodworths in and around Rochester, the surrounding counties, Syracuse, etc. and I would like to find anyone who knows anything about the history of this piano, who originally owned it, the family that owned it, its history in the Woodworth family, why it left the family, etc. All those things I would like to know, for my own information, and, even more important, out of respect for this magnificent instrument, which the Steinway dealer has likened to a Stradivarius violin; there will be no more like it.

Moreover, if the piano is ever sold, I would like at least to have tried to find anyone in its original family who might have wanted to have the opportunity to buy it and return it to the family which originally purchased it from Steinway, and for whom it may have been made.

Greetings from Vermont, Fred here. ( Maurice Frederick Woodworth III) I found your 2003 post about Walter Woodworth and would be interested in anything you are willing to share. I have been looking for family history on and off since 2005, and thought I had some accurate info. I submitted a DNA sample to Ancestry_com and If I read the results correctly I am related to Walter, but not directly descended. The line I found is: Walter, Benjamin, Ichabod,Silas,John,Ira, Benjamin, Amos Edwin, Frederick Amos, Maurice Forsyth, Maurice, Frederick (my father)Looks like the paper trail may be incorrect. I know this is an old post, and any help would be appreciated Thanks...Fred

Hi Sharon, good to hear from you,
As my posting says, I am looking for Amy Woodworth married to Joseph (Captain) Mann (b:abt 1763), this couple's details will confirm and connect my entire Tree together. There are several Amy's, Annies, Emmies on the web, all married to husbands other than Joseph.
I am "reaching" a bit, but I wonder if Joseph may be her second husband. So far I haven't found an ex or dead husband that might fit timewise or in geography. All the husbands fitting this are still having children when the marriage to Joseph would be necessary, about 1789-90. I have exact date of their firstborn, but information isn't close by at the moment. Their first son Daniel also married a Woodworth (Margaret I believe). Another Woodworth shows up later, and much earlier there are entries of Thomas Mann (b:1746) marrying Sarah Woodworth in Scituate - that union is disputed by many researchers or family "at the time" as not having ever happened.
Joseph and Amy passed through Albany, NY, then settled in Webster's Landing, Onondaga, NY for several years. 1790 census shows them in Syracuse, Onondaga, NY , I haven't found any records. The Onondaga Historical website sounds great but their email addresses don't work.

I would explore the Woodworths who moved into Nova Scotia, but the origins come from Mass and Conn through NY.

That's it, just about the whole thing! Walter is the best guess for Amy's father at this time.

Any chance your records give any indication on where Amy comes from?
If you e-mail me direct I can provide a Toll Free (USA & Canada) tel number for your use. Perhaps I can assist your research in some way?

Regards,
Ron Mann
rodeochaps@shaw.ca

Their families had migrated to Ohio in the early 1800s, and they were married in 1825 in Ashtabula Co, Ohio. Trying to find out who Samuel's parents were.
I have seen an Ebenezer, but no wife. Would someone be able to steer me in the right direction?
Thank you.

Woodworth, Harvey L. died 1918

Does anyone have information on the following person:

Woodworth, Harvey L., Co. C, 3rd Inf., Conn. Vols., Spanish American War, died Oct. 31, 1918, age 45 yrs.

I am trying to make a connection between him and James H. Woodworth -- perhaps this Harvey is the brother of James.
I have info from the 1880 census that lists James and Harvey living with their mother and stepfather in Norwich CT. The Harvey I am looking for I believe was born August 7, 1872, so the date and age above fit okay.

The info about Harvey above is from another page hosted by Rootsweb:
Fitch's Old Soldiers Home Cemetery, Darien,CT

I have made several posts about James and have been searching for what happened to Harvey.

Still hoping to find someone who is researching this line so that we can work together.
Hello!
Since I wrote that post, I found Bertha, and she is indeed the daughter of William and Mary Jane Woodworth! William Woodworth and my Great-great Grandmother Elizabeth Woodworth were brother and sister.
I have information on this branch of the Woodworth family and would be happy to share with you.

Montavill Lafayette Woodworth had many misspelling and even nephews named for him spelled incorrectly. However, Montavill is correct per his military records and the family Bible. Your grandfather was probably a newphew or even a great nephew. Who were his parents. Monatvill was one of 13 children. He was next to the youngest. None of Montavill's children were named for him. Who are your parents? Let me koow if I can help you. Sally

Hello all,

Big thanks to Marvin "Woody" Woodworth from the Oklahoma City area, who helped me find my place in the Woodworth line from a lookup in Jeanette (Woodworth)Behan's book.

His website is definely worth a look for all Woodworth researchers: http://members.aol.com/wildwudy/pubpage.htm

Here is what was found:

Volume 1, page 397, with a line back to Walter as follows:

965. JOHN 6 WOODWORTH, son of Daniel 5 and Lucy (William 4, Daniel 3, Isaac 2, Walter 1); born Suffield, Conn., 1813/4 and died there 14 October 1881.

He married Suffield 29 December 1834 HARRIET BENNETT. He was a stone mason.

Children, both born Suffield:
i. HELEN, b. about 1838.
ii. HARRIET, b. about 1842; m. Benjamin Burbank.

Happy hunting,
Shushumo
John Woodworth and Harriet Bement

Hello,

I am seeking information on the ancestors of John Woodworth, born about 1809 in New York or Connecticut. I have found him in the 1840 in Suffield, CT living (presumably) with his wife Harriet (Bement) and his daughter Helen. He would later have one more daughter, Harriet; both daughters married into the Burbank family also found in Suffield, CT. In the 1860 Census, this family was listed as Woodruff.

Thank you for your help :o)
