The Woody DNA Project now has the yDNA results from 14 participants. Five of these participants are descendants of Henry & Susannah Woody from Goochland & Franklin Counties, VA. All five of these men have very good paper trails back to Henry Woody and analysis of their yDNA results confirms a close relationship between them.
A descendant of Austin Woody (1822-1912) is also a participant. The parents of Austin are unknown, but a comparison of the yDNA results for Austin's descendant with the yDNA profile for Henry Woody's descendant’s shows that Austin was closely related to Henry. Their common ancestor was likely the father or grandfather of Henry. This discovery is the third such success story attributable to the Project. For the details, check out the Woody DNA Project http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/w/woody/index.html
Proof that Henry Woody was closely related to other Woody’s in western Virginia has encouraged me to initiate a new paper trail project. This research project will include all the early Woody’s in Albemarle, Amherst, Bedford, Buckingham, Fluvanna & Nelson counties. The primary objective will be to attempt to connect the various early Woody’s found in this region. For more information on this project, check out Woody Family Roots. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~dwoody/woo...
