I am a Woolard researcher in general. The family you are from mostly likely came from Virginia via N. Farnham Parish and Loudon County, VA. My lineage is via NE North Carolina. As far as I know I have no direct connection with Horace except general interest. I am working on re-printing a massive book (>950 pages) originally edited by Janes K. Wollard, covering many of the Woolard, Woollard, Wollard, et al surnames in North America. I will be glad to share the data I have going into the past for details of you extended family going forward.

Ms. Chapman Davis: We are in the process of re-printing Janes Wollard’s massive Woolard, et al book. I know you and he were in touch prior to his first printing of the book. We are updating, adding to, correcting and will publish a 3rd edition very soon in MS Word format on CD. If you have recent information about your family that you would like to share please get in touch with me. We also have begun a YDNA analysis project via Family Tree DNA. We have some interesting results but need many more contributors to fill out our Family’s extensive lineage!!

Warm regards,

Larry Willard
I understand you have a copy of he Woolard book by Janes K Woolard. Gosh, too bad it's out of print and so rare. Would you be willing to share some information with me. I am looking for any information on Issac Woolard b 1818 in Indiana. He was the father of Amanda born 1842 in MO, William born 1847 in MO, Martha Melinda born 1850 and Nancy Woolard born 1854 in ARK. But I do not know the name of her mother. Specifically a realtive is researching the story that Nancy is of Cherokee descent and that her mother (Morning Dawn, daughter of a chief) was rescued by the Woolard family from the Trail of Tears in 1838. I don't know if this is true or not? I do know the book says on pg 95 that accroding to family tradition Amanda was 1/2 Blackfoot. Could her sister Nancy have been 1/2 Cherokee or Blackfoot? Any information would be appreciated. Please cntact me at musicalsamcam@cox.net. I'd love to solve this mystery. Thank you.

Woolards, Barbados to Virginia, 1650

I am looking for a Woolard family that immigrated from Barbados to Virginia in 1650. They were accompanied by Peter Evans, his wife, Elizabeth, & Children, Peter, John, Richard, & Sarah. (History of Perquimans County, Mrs. Watson Winslow, 1931).
It is the Evans family I am primarily interested in, but as they are recorded as coming together perhaps there is a relationship. Peter is said to be the son of Griffith Evans who was transported from England to Barbados, 16 Dec 1635, at age 40, aboard the Falcon, as a political prisoner.

Rufus Woolard was my great great grandfather. It was spelled with a "th" and a "ph" instead of the "f" in records. James Dawson was my great grandfather and his son Rufus was my grandfather. Rufus married Mary S. Lilley (ancestors were O'Lilleys) and they had 4 sons and 1 daughter. They were Peggy, Jimmy, Phillip (my father) Donald and Bruce (deceased). I have some info, I just have to dig it up. I will check and send it to you. Priscilla was a Woolard also. It has made my research (which I put on hold a couple of years ago) hard. My email is pmwoolard@embarqmail.com.

If there is anyone out there with the Woolard/Wollard Book, could you please tell me if Noah was the father of Evan Woolard (b. 1796 d.c. 1870) in Beaufort County, NC? I have that Noah was Evan's father and George Woolard was Noah's father - anyone know if that is correct?

Thanks!
Karen

Re: Woolard Query

Hello,

I am Gilbert Garland Woolard,III -born Kinston, NC 2/22/1952. My Dad is also Jr and his Dad is Sr.

Background Info

Sometimes around age 14 I opened the family bible and read an article about the death of a Woolard in the 1930's. I've always wondered about my Grandmother's response(Inez VandDyke Woolard) to my question. All I precisely remember now is her response, "...that was another branch of Woolards that we dont know." and she indicated that us Woolard's in Williamston, NC had nothing to do with them, like that branch went their own way or something. Yet she could not confirm or deny that we have missing Woolards in our family tree. -so much for 42 yr old memories. Little Washington and Bathe, NC come to mind.

Query

I am still wondering and now after reading about a half brother I am wondering even more and ask can anyone add some light, ie was there a half brother that accounts for my Grandmother's response to my almost faded memory in relation to a half brother of my Great Grandfather -John Hyman Woolard ..is this correct?

The book, edited by Mr. Janes K. Wollard will be available again in electronic format soon. We scanned and converted the original hard copy manuscript into MS Word and will issue the revised, extended edition in late spring this year (May-April 2009). Contact me for details if interested.
There is a contact listed on page 95. Don't know whether it is still valid but, . . .
On page 95 of the original book is stated:

13B RACHEL PAGE RAMSEY h. 10-8-1991
10M ROBERT LEE WOOLARD, b. 6-9-1906, Alvarado, Tx., d. 4-29-1915 d. of blood
poisoning from rusty nail.
8B AMANDA JANE (WOOLARD), b. 1842, Wayne Co., Mo.
Sp. William Henry Roria.
The information I have concerning my great, great Grandmother (Amanda) was that she was born in 1842 in Wayne County, Mo. I have found where Isaac Woolard was living in the 1850's in Stone County, Ar., with two daughters, Amanda Jane and Martha Malinda Adaline. They both later married Rories. I have also been told they were part Blackfoot Indian. I am not sure if this was from their mother's or father's side. I want so much to know something about this branch of my family. Sue Clark, 1255 H'way 65N, Greenbriar, Ar, 72058. 1994.
8C WILLIAM WOOLARD, b. 1847, Ark.
8D MARTHA MELINDA ADLINE (WOOLARD), b. 1850, Ark.
Sp. John B Roris brother of Wm above.
8E NANCY (WOOLARD), b. 1852, Ark.
Sp. J. F. Shipman, m. in Stone Co., Ark.

For a more extensive narrative covering this lineage you should see “The Woolards of Johnson County, Texas”, a limited distribution, by Marian (Woolard) Ramsey,.dated 1995.
The Evans family is covered in some detail in Mrs Winslow's book. There was a family of Woollards, George, Ann and Samuel who were landed in Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia in 1650 with a G'ntl'man Mr. Gravace Dodson, but do not have the ship's name at hand. Many of Evans surname passed through Perquimans County, NC eventually on way IL and points west.

Jim: I, too, have been away from Ancestry for a couple of years and it is good to see you are active again. Issac Taylor Woolard and Mary Thompson Woolard are my great grand parents. Your relationship to Issac Taylor Woolard is through his second marriage to Mary Cadorah Littleton Woolard. Issac being married to two women named Mary has caused me a number of headaches. Have you figured out where Mary Cadorah Woolard moved to when she left Arkansas? Please let me hear from you regarding Issac's second family. If you prefer, you may e-mail me direct.
Hope to hear from you soon. Georgana Kimble
