Charleston hospital after a long illness. The body has been taken to
the Pryor mortuary at East Bank.

John's son Leon was born Dec. 27, 1894 in Illinois. Leon's son was a Noah Lee Workman, born March 25, 1915 in Reeds Springs, Missouri. Is this family w/in the Workman Genealogy? I had your Obediah Workman confused with my gg-grandfather. The Obediah you are referring to was a brother to my great grandfather, John Workman, who is also buried in Adams Co., Ohio. We called your Obediah Uncle Charlie. Uncle Charlie was the son of Obediah Workman and his wife, Polly Dalton. Interestingly, Obediah Workman, their father, is also buried in Adams County, Ohio, though he was a proud Confederate soldier. This Obediah won the World's Fiddling Championship many, MANY moons ago down in Logan County, WV. He was a Cherokee man and his jet black hair went all the way past his waist, which he worn down, not braided. See, the thing about Pappy Obed was that the faster he played the fiddle, the faster he rocked in his chair. So, when the contest began, Pappy was rocking regular but soon got to going faster and faster in sync with his playing. He flipped his rocker completely over without missing a beat and won the World's Fiddling Championship!

Another interesting note about Pappy Obediah is that he was the son of John Workman, Sr., who was married to Sarah Dalton. This John would be my ggg-grandfather. If you follow the Workman saga, you'll see that this John was a VERY close relative to the Dalton gang and a few others. Another fact of the matter, is that he was extremely close with Jesse James. This Grandpa John is buried in Ada, Missouri. And, I'll be good to all my Workman cousins and not tell everything I know about Grandpa John. I can see his side too, after all.

PS: I had a great uncle named Jesse James.

I also have the Anderson book reference this with some caution. The information you are looking for is John Workman b. Abt. 1765 in MD. died Aft. April 18, 1858 in IN or OH. He married Eleanor Buimigen (this has not been proven as no information on her has surfaced as of yet)Abt. 1786 in MD or OH. She was born Abt. 1786 in MD or OH. and died Aft. 1839 in Green Co., Ohio.

Notes for John Workman:
John Workman lived in Belmont, OH. before migrating to IN. The 1820 Census indicates that John Sr. and his son's all lived in Lawerence Co.,IN. By the 1830's Census all except Jermiah had moved to Green Co., IN. Died after 1839 possibly after April 18, 1858 John bought land in OH. as early as 1804.

He married a second wife name Polly Miller abt. 1800 in Belmont Co., OH (Probably)

My GGGrandfather was Richard Truax "KIT" Workman His Grandfather was Isaac Workman Tabitha Swage Truax. His father Richard Workman moved to Tanney Co., Missouri in 1840's from Green County IN. He was married to Elizabeth Sarver. Information listed in the History & Families Christian County Missouri Est. 1859. He bought 80 acres tract of land on the White River at the mouth of Roark Creek that includes the present site of the City of Branson MO Yes us Workman's had the land before they named it Branson!

I have Isaac Workman, born 1806 in KY, farming much later in Shelby County, IL. I believe he migrated from KY to IN to IL as my great grandfather, John L. Workman stated that his father was from Indiana. Isaac's wife had the Christian name Zelinda, which somewhat sets her apart. Isaac's mother was Elizabeth but maiden name unknown.

My great great grandfather was Sylvester Workman, his son Issac workman is my great grandfather - he married a Neblitt (sp unsure) their son RD is my great grandfather - he married Synthia Annie Coyle.
I believe you all are talking about the same family. I have some information and grew up in Stigler with RD and Annie's daughter Lois (my grandmother) until she passed away.
There was a Dora who had been married to George Workman. They had 3 children Frances, Bertha and Charles.
Do any of these names fit in your trees if so I would love to see what you have and possibly be able to put facts to people i barely remember and go further back on that part of my tree. I can't go any further back than Sylvester.

she has almost 90,000 names of Workmans that
her and her cousin have traveled over the
United States and got documents to prove
who they was and all the stuff you need to
prove your a Workman but anyway she might
be able to help you in some way and if she
still has some she may send you one of those
CD she sent me one about 2 yrs ago she is
a very sweet lady so I would really email
her for help. My Grandmother on my dad's side
of the tree was a Workman so that is how I
meet Gloria. So please email her it wouldn't hurt.
