Appears in the Terrell Times-Star, Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas, 15 July 1892 ...

Fell Dead

Weatherford, Texas, July 7 - At Peaster, a village abount nine miles from Weatherford, J. R. Bullington and D. T. Works became engaged in a heated controversy over politics, Mr. Bullington being a democrat and Dr. Works a third party man. They became so personal in their remarks that the proprietor of the house where they were, told them to get outside, to which Dr. Weeks replied, "All right we will get outside and settle it," and just as he got to the door he fell dead from heart disease. He had been subject to this trouble for some time. He was well esteemed.

Horse Thieves Ben Works and Will Nance arrested

Appears in "The Ravia Herald" 30 May 1908, Ravia, Johnston County, Oklahoma

HORSE THIEVES ARRESTED

A L. Tribble, of DeQueen, Arkansas, Sheriff of Sevier County, arrived here last Wednesday and made himself and his mission known to Constable Lee Parker and former Deputy Sheriff Tom Brown. He told them that he had trailed two horse thieves from his town in Arkansas to the Choctaw Nation; that they were headed for this county and that they were Ben Works and Will Nance. The parties were known to Parker and Brown, so that night, with Sheriff Tribble, they searched the Troy country, where Nance and Works live, and located them. Thursday morning they raided the place where Nance and Works were and captured them, but not before they made a dash for liberty, barefooted, but were headed off by Constable Lee Parker and his gun. Parker had to fire two shots before he could convince one of the parties that he would shoot to kill if necessary. Birt Keith also assisted in making the arrests. The sheriff, after talking with our people, thinks he has the parties who have been extensively engaged in horse stealing, and that possibly several horses from this county are now at his town in Arkansas, among the number the Norris horse stolen last March. Lack of space forbids an more extended notice.
My grandmother was Violet L. Works b. 1932 Cuba, Allegany, NY to Eson J Works and Ellen Storms. Eson was b. 1887 in Potterbrook, Tioga, PA. I have found one awesome cousin that helped me trace Eson back to Samuel Works b. abt 1680 Ireland. She also mentioned briefly a link to B. Young's first wife. Has anyone else heard of Eson or his children? My goal is to find info on his son-in-law (Violet's first husb- a male Rogers) who is my grandfather. I was adopted, and all parties involved are deceased, so I'm struggling to get info on my grandpa.

Greetings,

I am looking for any information on the Works family who lived in New York. I have the following.

Lina B. She married William Manley Garland in 1905.

I found her parents and family on the 1880 Census living in Moira, Franklin, New York. They had the following children:

They had the following children ...
i. Iva WORKS (b.1867)
ii. Arnold WORKS (b.1870)
1 iii. Lina B.
Works (Sarah Adella Works ---> Jacob W. Works)

Hi all -- I have been doing some searching on my Works line tonight and just thought i would throw out my connection to the Works line:

Sarah Adella Works is my gggreat grandmother (married Joel Madison). She was born 1853 in Maine and died 05 Apr 1932 in Farmington, Dakota County, Minnesota. Her father was Jacob W. Works b. 1809 in Maine and died 30 Dec 1885 in Farmington. Both (along with other members of the family) are buried at the Corinthian Cemetery in Farmington, MN....very nice family gravesite as I visited it last summer.

All of the rest of the paternal line after Jacob that I have is what everyone on here is stating (Clark Works--b. 1774>Jacob Works b. 1747--->Samuel Works b. 1721-->Samuel Works b. 1680), but my sources are the One World Tree and Family Data -Births. Does anyone know of any other "hard" sources? I would sure appreciate it!

If anyone is interested in the 'Works' in Minnesota let me know as I have some obits and pictures of graves. (I visited the Dakota County, MN Historical Society also)

In my research tonight I found some Revolutionary War records for some Works (namely Jacob b. 1747 and brother Samuel b. 1744). Anyone confirm that these are the correct Works from this line. (side note: I am listening to the audio book 1776 which is why I thought I would look up military records).

Oh, where does "Wark(s)" come from ---I keep seeing that ...is it a variation of Works?

Sorry for babbling....Hope to hear from some of you soon! =)

-Carla
cac1717@houston.rr.com

Nope-still waiting for someone to make my day. Do you have the Gail Von Hamilton url to her Website online? Still trying to verify David Work(Wark) being married to Martha Crone or Crowe. Joseph Work(Wark) married his cousin Nancy Work so the two brothers did not marry two sisters. Finding very little info on these two brothers and their families in Fairfield County, Ohio. Have you found anything new? Please state sources. Debbie

The Works Family

I don't wish to mislead you and send us both on a wild goose chase. My father had an uncle named Will or William Works. He was married to my grandmother's sister, Cora Works. Uncle Will lived most of his life while I knew him in Denison, Texas. He had a brother named Olaf who lived in Oklahoma when I knew him. Uncle Will and Aunt Cora had a son named Francis. Francis and his first wife, last name was Gore, had a daughter named Betty. Betty went by the name of Gore sometime and at other times by the name of Works. I went to school with Betty in elementary school in Denison. Uncle Francis was never allowed to see Betty because of the divorce settlement. Will and Cora Works also had daughters I believe their names were Blanch and Hazel. All I know of all of the Works took place in and around the city of Denison, Texas. Does any of this ring a bell?

I now live in California. My maiden name was Turner. My father was Guy Emory. I'll tell you more if you think any of this information will be of any help. I am searching for any possible siblings of my grandfather and I am going in all directions trying to make a match and hook up with someone who might possibly be related to someone who was related to my grandfather.

My e-mail address is: gerryredling@aol.com

Hope to hear from you.

I'm so excited to see that we share some of the same family members. My Andrew was married to Etta Green who was my grandmother's sister. They lived in Howard/Hempstead County in Arkansas. I didn't recognize these names but my mother knew them all. Her name is Jennie (Trotter) Finley and she grew up in Mineral Springs/Blackland which is where the Blacks lived in Howard County. I am trying to find more info on Etta's other siblings, Corine and Eddy Josephine but have been unsuccessful. Corine was my grandmother and she was married to R.C. Trotter. Any info you would like to share with me would be appreciated.
