I have traced my roots back to my gr-gr-grandfather, Anton Wozniak:

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op...

My information has his birthdate as Jan 1824, and his birthplace as Polanowice, Bydgoszcz, Poland. He and his wife Mary (maiden name unknown) were in Buffalo NY in the 1900 census. The census also lists Mary's birthdate as Mar 1840, and their marriage in 1850, meaning Mary was 10 when she married. They said they had 10 children in the census (five already deceased), but I know only of my gr-grandfather Andrzej. Anton, Mary, Andrzej, his wife Antonina Zak, and their sons Stephen (my grandfather), Francis and Anthony all lived in the same household in 1900.

Hello, I am Michael Wozniak, son of Leonard Wozniak, and great grandson of Martin Wozniak. In addition to the comments I've seen posted, I am also part of the National Geographic Genographic project which is tracing the migration routes of early humans (10,000 years ago!)through DNA testing. In addition, I am also part of the Polish Project which consists of about 800 folks who have all had DNA testing. I have found one link with enough pair matches that there's a 95% certainty this person and I, and consequently many other Wozniak's share a common patriarchal link within the last 21 generations or about 600 years. His name is Drew Gordon. More to follow when additional testing is completed.

I know she born abt.1883 in Pennsylvania, yet both her parents show they came from Poland, yet I haven't been able to track down her parents. And wondering if maybe you have any info on a Katharine born around that time in your line? She married a man named Andrew Wilk, who was from Poland and we believe he arrived in 1903. She lived in Coal,Northumberland, PA area she had 8 children, then moved to the New Jersey area. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Is there anyone out there who has any information regarding the arrival in America of the following: Josef Wozniak and Maryanna Bartkowiak, married in Feb. 1881 in Poland (near Wagrowiec) and her sister Anna Bartkowiak who married Jan Rymarkiewicz also in Feb. 1881, same place. They immediately must have boarded a ship as the 1st child born to the Wozniaks was in December of 1881 near Green Bay, WI. The Rymarkiewicz family settled in Winona, MN. Family stories say that they traveled together and arrived in Baltimore on May 10th, 1881. Census records verify that the year of immigration was 1881. For years I've been trying to locate the ship they arrived on with absolutely no luck. If anyone has a clue or a helpful hint, please let me know. Thanks.

My great-grandfather's sister lived in Union NJ. The man she married was named Woznjak (Wozniak). I do not know her 1st name, but the last name was Duk (Duke). She came from Dobrzankowo, Poland near Plock. I'm looking to do some further research. My great-grandfather was Mike Duke (Marion Duk) he 1st came to Hazelton, PA and then settled in Shamokin / Coal Township, PA. He did go to his sister's to be married and on the ship's list also lists her as a destination. I also found a ship's list for a Josef Duk, who listed he was going to Union City, NJ to relative Teofil Woznjak. Any information you may have would be appreciated. The one relative that I have met is a Lucy Wozniak from NJ.

Hi Mark
You are doing a good job so far with your research. I have Wozniak's in my family as well but they came over to Canada in 1906 so any siblings of my grandmother Margaret Wozniak were left in Poland. My grandmother's parents were Walenty Wozniak and Katherine Kwiatkowska.
My Wozniak's are from around Poznan as well, they were from Wrzesnia area. Other names my grandfather mentioned were Soleczno, Gozdowo, Otoczna, and Kaczanow which are just small towns. When I lived in St. Catharines, Ontario way back in the late 1960's I didn't realize what a large Polish population there was in Buffalo otherwise I might have spent more time there. Here is a new link to a marriage site in Poland. I was on there old link and haven't tried this one yet. If it doesn't work let me know and I will look up the old link if I can find it. http://bindweed.man.poznan.pl/posen/search.php

Do you know if your Michael Wozniak had a brother born in 1939 in Poland? He married a Katarzyna Gawronska. They immigrated to the USA in 1882, best as I can find out. They lived in the Princeton, WI area. Princeton is not too far from Milwaukee, so I thought that I would just ask in the event that there might be some connection. Thanks for your time.
Shelby

Hello,

I was interested in your post as I am related to a Kasimir Wozniak who was the son of Stephani Wozniak and Marianna Turczniew.

Kasimir (known as Charles) emmigrated to USA through Baltimore with his brother Roman (known as Raymond) in about 1900. They had a sister Fransiska who had emmigrated previously and was living in Connellsville, PA.

I obtained the marriage records for Charles and his wife (Maria Wiza) which provided his parents names and indicated that he had be born in Klolydamo, Poland (not sure of the spelling as the Parish records were sometimes difficult to read.)

Charles was born in 1879, Roman was born about 1885 and Fransiska was older than both, she was married to a fellow by the name of Przybylski at the time of her brothers emmigration.
I am looking for information about the children of Stephani and Marianna Turczyniew of Klolyldamo, Poland.

They had sons, Kasimire and Roman who immigrated to USA together in about 1900. Their immigration records indicate they were going to a sister, Franziska who's married name was Przybylski.

Kasimier (Charles), aged 25, married Marianne Wiza, aged 23 in 1904 in Pittsburgh, PA. I know about this family.

I don't know much about Roman, but that he may have Americanized his name. He may have had about four children, Helen, Loretta and possibly Elizabeth.

All I know about Franziska is that she was living in Connellsville according to her brother's immigration records.

I'm seeking info on a Frank Woznick or Wozniak who was listed as living at 26 Maple Street, Hicksville, NY in orphanage papers for Charles Woznick in 1914. Charles & his siblings were placed into an orphanage in 1914 and Charles was later released in 1928. It appears that the note was referencing the nearest relative to the children - Frank Woznick/Wozniak. I'd appreciate any input on how I can find him & am hoping finding Frank Woznick will lead me to other relatives. I've been searching the census with no luck thus far.

I came across your listing when I was searching for information about Noskowa and Soleczno, the birthplaces of my great-grandparents.
You mentioned a link to Kwiatkowski. My cousin is Tonya Kwiatkowski, a champion ice skater who competed in the 1990s.
Take care, Susan

ANDRZEJ (Andrew) WOZNIAK in Buffalo NY

Dzien Dobry!

One of the main Polish immigrant lines I am researching is WOZNIAK in Buffalo NY. As in Poland, WOZNIAK is a very common name in the Buffalo area. I want to start trying to find records from Poland, and perhaps trace back into further generations. I know next to nothing about Polish geography.

The primary name I am investigating is ANDRZEJ (ANDREW) WOZNIAK (1868-1929), my great-grandfather. I believe he was born in the POZNAN (POSEN) region, but I don't know anything more specific. According to US census information, he emigrated to the US between 1888 and 1891. In the 1900 census, I found him, his wife, plus their first three sons (including my grandfather STEPHEN). Also listed at the same address are ANTON WOZNIAK (1824-after 1908) and MARY (maiden name unknown, 1840?-bef 1910). I believe they are my gr-gr-grandparents. In the 1900 census, MARY stated she had 10 children, 5 who were still living (they also say they were married 50 years in 1900, but she gives her birth year as 1840, meaning she married at age 10!). I have found some WOZNIAK immigrants at the Castle Garden web site, who arrived in New York 6 May 1887, on the SS Taormina (some of the information matches what is in the 1900 census). They are ANTON WOZNIAK (age given as 50, last residence SACKAWA-IA), MARG.(likely MARY, listed as age 48), AGNES (age 19), and STANISLAUS (age 17). There are also several WOZNACKs (with a C) on the SS Taormina manifest, but I don't know if they are related. I believe STANISLAUS actually may be my gr-grandfather ANDRZEJ. But I don't have enough information to confirm any of this. I also have no further information on AGNES WOZNIAK.

ANDRZEJ WOZNIAK married ANTONINA __ (1870-1906), my gr-grandmother, in Buffalo in 1895, but I don't know her maiden name, so I can't do any further research. He married a second time, c. 1907, to KATARZYNA ___ (1878-1937). Her maiden name is also unknown to me, but she was the widow of MICHAEL BORKOWSKI. In summary, I want to find out who the nine siblings of ANDRZEJ WOZNIAK are, and the maiden names of his wives. Some members of the family defected from the Roman Catholic Church to the Polish National Catholic Church in Buffalo, and I understand there was some family estrangement as a result. Once I can start researching Polish records, perhaps I will learn if I am related to any of the numerous Wozniaks in the Buffalo NY area.

There are also some mysteries in my paternal grandmother's family. STANISLAUS BOROWICZ (1867-1950) emigrated in 1892 or 1893, but I cannot find any manifest information. His wife, MARYANNA BARANCZAK (1868-1935), likely emigrated in 1892, according to census data. Their marriage was in Buffalo 12 Feb 1895. They were members of Saint John Kanty RC Church in Buffalo, and I was able to get more information by browsing church records on LDS microfilm. STANISLAUS BOROWICZ gives his birthplace as BILOWITZ, which I think is now in the Czech Republic. MARYANNA BARANCZAK's birthplace is listed as WITKOWO. From their 1895 Buffalo church marriage record, I found that their parents were FRANCISZEK BOROWICZ and MICHALINA MICHALCZAK, both of LOPIENNO, and CATHERINE PAWELA and the late JOHN BARANCZAK, birth places in Poland unknown. I did find the marriage info for FRANCISZEK BOROWICZ/MICHALINA MICHALCZAK at the Poznan Project website.

Thank you for any hints or information for me regarding the next steps I should take in my research.

/Mark Wozniak, Tonawanda NY (mwozniak@wbfo.org)
