Dear Clint,

Was your Julius Wrasse born in St. Joesph County, IN? I have him buried there as well. Are we talking about the same? If we are, I have the Wrasse's back to Pomerania (Germany).

Jeff

Will advise.

Jeff

1936 obit for Julius Wrasse.

1911 Mishawaka news article about the wedding of Julius and Anna.

1ST English Lutheran Church recordings of the deaths of Julius, John C. Wrasse and the roll of members showing Herman Wrasse as a charter member.

The obit for Julius says that he was born in LaPorte Co.

Checking for a divorce at the county record center.
Dear Gunthard,
Jeff sent me a copy of your message and I went to the website you noted. The map of Kreis Neustettin in very interesting. Could you tell me how to find a map of Kreis Dramburg? My grandfather and his family lived in Dietersdorf which I believe was in Kreis Dramburg, Pommern. I have his certificate of baptism. It is handwritten and somewhat difficult to decipher--partly because of the script and partly because I cannot read German. I am interested in further researching his family line.

Best regards, Cynthia

Dear Jeffrey,

JULIUS H. WRASSE (b. 1883, Niles, MI?; d. 17 March 1936; m. ANNA L. HAAS, 10 February 1911, Indianapolis, Marion, IN) is connected to my wife's family history.

In 1918, he married EMMA A. HALL (or HOLL) nee KRUEGER in Cleveland, OH. The 1920 U.S. census lists them, together with EMMA's children from her first marriage,
MILDRED and CHARLES, as living in Rochester, Monroe County, NY where JULIUS was a drygoods salesman. Although the census shows JULIUS as the children's father and their surname as WRASSE, he never formally adopted them (MILDRED was my wife's grandmother). EMMA and JULIUS were subsequently divorced, and the 1930 U.S. census shows JULIUS living in the Elk Hotel in Charleston City, WV, where he had his own tailoring business.

Sincerely,
Clint B.
Dear Jeff,

The 1920 census shows Julius H. Wrasse at age 36 born in Indiana with his parents born in Germany, and the 1930 census shows him at age 46 also born in Indiana (the index says Ohio, but the actual image shows Indiana) with his parents born in Germany, so I believe we're talking about the same Julius Wrasse.

I'm familiar with your posting showing Julius' ancestors back to 1824 (Emma's parents also came from Pomerania, Germany), but since his marriage to Emma only lasted a few years and didn't produce any offspring, I'm not certain whether to include his pedigree in my wife's family tree.

We are, however, interested in knowing more about Julius. For instance, do you know if Julius' first wife, Anna Haas, died or if they were divorced? (That marriage record, by the way, gives his birth date as 16 Jul 1883.) Please e-mail me directly with any additional information you may have.

Clint
ParalegalSvc@aol.com

Hello Cynthia. When did your Wrasse family arrive in America? Mine immigrated in 1857, and I've linked up with three others sharing the same Wrase/Wrasse family. If you like, I will share what I have. One question for you: are you aware of any of them being Jewish?

Celia

Hallo Thomas,

Gunthard

Dear Jeff,

Klaushagen and Prössin are neighboring vicarages in county (Kreis) Neustettin in Pommern. You can find both on a map (lower left part) at: http://www.hinterpommern.de/Karten/Neustettin/gemeinden.html

Wrase is a quite a popular surname in Kreis Neustettin -- even in the 1920/30ies. In an old address directory there are 36 families listed.

if you want to get in touch with other family reseachers in Pommern (especially Germans too) you should submit your surnames to the contact database Pommernkontakte at http://pommernkontakte.de

for general questions as to Pommern I would also recommend the mailing list Pommern for genealogy in Pommern http://hinterpommern.de/Genealogie/Foren/Pommern-L/

Best regards, gunthard
