I descend from some Wrights of Jackson county, Alabama. I just got back from a research trip to Jackson county. There, I met a Dot Bean, who works in the Jackson county historical society (called the Scottsboro Jackson Heritage Center). email scottsborojacks@centurytel.net. I believe her family is from that area so she might be able to help you.

Some of my Wrights moved out of Jackson county into Arkansas and then later to Texas. Dot Bean said that during that time period (mid-1800's), the government was offering cheap land in Texas so that is why so many emigrated out of Jackson county.

Thanks very much for your reply re the WRIGHTs of Jackson & Madison Counties. Which WRIGHTs of those counties are you descended from; and where in Arkansas and Texas did they migrate to? Our family told of a daughter of William M. Wright (he was b1820 TENN) who "married a Fraser and moved
to Alpine Arkansas". I think I have a portrait of this Jennie (Wright) Fraser with her husband and two sons, but the identification is not positive.
Yes, there was cheap land, much of it railroad land or school land offered for sale, and the railroad made traveling easier. I would like to hear more about your
WRIGHT family, if you don't mind.
Sincerely, Norma (Gorman) Wright
