Samuel Gundry wrote up a Family Register in 1849 before coming to NZ on the STEADFAST in 1851 and updated it on his 80th birthday. His brother William Richardson Gundry came to NZ in 1839 and married Makareta Rautangi. There are hundreds of descendants of both brothers out here. One of my 5th cousins has done serious research on the Gundry family. How do I get it to you?
I believe George married Charlotte Church and had 8 children but I have not researched him in detail.
Jeanette

Well hello. Emma was the daughter of Samuel Gundry, whose brother George is my great-great-grandfather. Therefore, if I've got this right, it would seem their father, Peter, is our joint 3 x great grandfather! Quite by chance, and with no previous knowledge of family history at all, I now live near Devizes, where they were all born, so am treading in their footsteps on a daily basis. Weird and amazing. I have quite an extensive family tree on the boil which I'll try and get on to Ancestry asap. Love to hear from you. Catherine

Lyman Wright 1870 Census New York

Through the womders of Member Connect, I was able to learn that eleven people have added the 1870 Census record for Lyman Wright, Clinton County, New York as a source to thier family tree. Although I would love to believe that it is true, he is my brick wall, I believe you may be off base. I can track this Lyman and his wife directly to his death in Saranac Lake, NY and burial in the town of Peru, NY. He was born 1819 and died Feb 14, 1873. Please check your facts. If you are related to Lyman, I would jump at the chance to compare notes with you.
George Wright born 1847, Longframlington (?)

Hi

I'm having a bit of trouble getting back any further than my great-great-Granfather George Wright; on my dad's side. The first confirmed sighting of him is in the 1871 census where he is staying with his Uncle and his wife (who is presumably, the sister of George's mother or father); George claimed on the census and several others afterwards to have been born in Longframlington, but on another he claims to have been born in Hexham which is miles away (and we are positive its the same George as several other details point to this). Futhermore I've spent many an hour trying to locate him with his parents; on any earlier census anywhere in Northumberland simply by browsing all the records;(but starting with Longframlington and neighbouring areas first) and he simply isn't there; nor is there any birth entry for him. I really want to find out who his parents were but am hitting a brick wall. Any suggestions or anyone also descended from this man. thanks.

Sophie

Hi

Thanks for the reply. In the 1871 census he is living with his uncle; (as he is cited as Nephew) who is called George Cummings in St John, which is in the Newcastle Upon Tyne area. I have been able to trace George Cummings on several censuses (1851 through to 1881) and also his wife; Mary Ann; and their marriage record; and from there I found her name was Mary Ann Scott whom I am presuming is the sister of George Wright's mother. I have not conclusively been able to find Mary Ann Scott on the 1841 census. I have looked for Mary Ann Scott on the 1841 census by browsing through the actual written records and also I have looked for George Wright (subject of this query) on both the 1851 and 1861 census.

Mary Ann Scott was meant to have been born in Kirkharle, Northumberland in 1830, so I am assuming her sister (mother of the George Wright I am enquiring about) was born a few years either side of that and around the same area; probably is slightly older than her sister, as she would have had to have been at least 16-17 to have had George. They also appear to have another sister called Elizabeth Scott; as she appears on one census 'visiting' George Cummings and Mary Ann.

Here is the text of the census where George Wright (who is my direct ancestor) first appears

Name: George Wright
Age: 24
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1847
Relation: Nephew
Gender: Male
Where born: Longframlington, Northumberland, England
Civil parish: St John
Ecclesiastical parish: St John
County/Island: Northumberland
Country: England
Registration district: Newcastle Upon Tyne
Sub-registration district: St Nicholas
ED, institution, or vessel: 19
Household schedule number: 104
Household Members:
Name Age
George Cummings 46
Mary Ann Cummings 41
George Cummings 14
James Cummings 12
John Cummings 7
George Wright 24

I'm a bit new to this so please help me out a bit if there is anything else I should be mentioning. Thanks again for any help...

Do you have any other surnames associated with your Wright's. If so what are they? and who are they, where were they from. If married to whom.?

I have Wright, with associated surnames of Nichol, Littell, Taylor, Gibbons.

barbara

Thanks for that information. I'd take the rest of your descent from Mary Theresa if you'd care to share. It would be interesting to flesh out the remaining children and family lines from Josiah and Freelove Wright.

I have spouses for the following:
1. Maria m Lyman Sloan
2. Freelove m. Samuel Black
3. Solomon m. Nancy Glass McDowell
4. Wealthy Anne m. A. D. Loveland (my line)
5. Lott m. Emily Couse
6. Phillip m. Charolette Diven
7. Rossanah m. Roswell Paddock.

That leaves the following children w/o spouses:
8. Mariah J. Wright m. ??
9. William Woodworth Wright m. ??
10. Elizabeth Wright m. ??
(I have the above 3 listed all with an 1808 birthdate. Tripletts do you suppose?? Anybody know?)

11. Josiah Stillman Wright m. ??
12. Benjamin Wright m. ??
13. George Wright (b. 1821) m. ??

Anyone able to fill in any details on the above??
Thanks.
Bill Kullman
on the old oregon trail

I believe your Lott W Wright to be the son of Josiah Wright and Freelove Woodworth.

I have a note:
He married in NY and had a son Josiah; mother unknown. Lott took his son Josiah to Sheboygan County Wisconsin abt 1848. He remarried in 1852 to EMILY CAUSE and they had 7 children.

I can provide AT's for both Josiah and Freelove if you contact me. OR826@aol.com
Bill Kullman
on the old Oregon Trail.

Judy,
Thank you for your message. William Wright was my great grandfather. I have a great deal of info on the wright family,as a woman in England did extensive research on the family and shared it with my father. I am excited to make this connection with you. My father, who knew William Wight is still alive, age 84. He may have known "Billy." I would love to explore our connection further. My direct email is ghouston@u32.org. Can you clarify your connection to the Wright family? Please write back soon. Glenn Houston

There is a William Wright in my lineage, but this line resided in areas of Stafford, Spotsylvania, and Prince William counties. I don't believe that any of my line, to my knowledge yet, was in Caroline county.

Tamara Mitchell

My great-grandmother was Jessie Mariah(Miriah) Wright. She married Alvy Reynolds in 1895. They had ten children: Joseph Walter, Clifford A, John Arthur, Isabelle, Robert R, Charlotte Ann(my grandmother), Everett A, Florence A, and Donald. There is one more I cannot find (as reference to Everett's gravestone that he was 1 of 10 children of Alvy and Jessie Reynolds.).

If anyone has any information on Jessie and her ancestors, I would br grateful if you would. I'm stumped here.
kclarkplus6@yahoo.com

From the census records, it appears likely that she was born in 1876 rather than 1863. That means she would only be in the 1880 census as a Wright prior to her marriage. I find a record in Tioga NY that would match her age, and location, and possibly a father named Joseph which would match the name of her oldest son. If this is the correct family, then her grandfather was Caleb Wright. Below I show 2 RootsWeb trees that include that family with some additional ancestors you might find of interest:

1930 census New York > Tioga > Nichols > District 13 > Page 13

Jessie 54 NY NY NY
--------------------------
1920 census New York > Tioga > Nichols > District 160 > Page 2

Jessie M. 43 NY NY NY
--------------------------
1910 census New York > Tioga > Nichols > District 152 > Page 6

Jessie M. 34 NY NY NY
--------------------------
1900 census New York > Tioga > Nichols > District 126 > Page 21

Jesse Apr 1876 24 NY NY NY
--------------------------
1880 census New York > Tioga > Owego > District 216 > Page 48
Family 581

Wright, Caleb 61 carpenter kidney disease PA PA PA
Nancy 63 PA PA PA
Joseph 30 son tinsmith NY PA PA
Laura 7 grand daughter NY NY NY
Anna 6 grand daughter NY NY NY
Jesse 4 grand daughter NY NY NY
Corbin, Henry 32 step son laborer NY CT PA
---------------------------
1870 census New York > Tioga > Owego > Page 47
Family 440

Wright, Joseph 48 brick mason NY
Lois 39 NY
Harreit 20?
I think his fathers name was James and mothers was Alma. she died in 1883. There is something crazy in the family lines and I cant figure it out. I have gone back as far as his great grandfather... I think it was Daniel Wright. Several sites claim Alma or Anna to be her name??? not sure but I think he had a brother by the name of william a. wright? if you can confirm or reject this please let me know. redphoe@yahoo.com

Hi, I am seeking information on Lot W. Wright of Cambridge, NY, born 1819, later moved to Wisconsin, was married to Emily Couse. I can find a great deal about him except information that will help me track the line further up the tree (his parents names). Any information would be greatly appreciated, I will be happy to share what I have as well.
