ROBERT WRIGHT, JOHN WRIGHT, ABBEVILLE, SC & HART CO., GA

Robert Wright was the father of John and Robert Wright of Abbeville, SC. Robert (son) died leaving guardianship of the minor children to John Wright. Robert Wright (father) died approx. 1813 (date of his will). I believe that Robert Wright (father) was from Virginia. I have researched and researched and cannot find his actual date of birth, County of birth, etc. I would very much like to find him and then his father, father's father, etc. My father (a Wright) is 89 years of age, and wants me to do this for him and I, honestly, am so desperate to find this out for him. Please help me if you can. Thanks in advance.

DNA Confirmation of John Wright (Montgomery County)

Dear Fellow Researchers,

In a posting dated July 4, 2008, on this list, I presented the documentary evidence identifying John Wright (Montgomery County) as the son 1815 (year of death) Joseph Wright of Bedford County, Virginia, (place of death) and grandson of 1763 Thomas Wright of Bedford County, Virginia.

We now have the very good news from Family Tree DNA confirming that identification. The Y-DNA sequence of James Dillon Wright, Kit 126181, matches that of Frank Easly Wright, Kit 42281. Both are Haplogroup I.

Frank Easly Wright is a descendant of 1763 Thomas Wright of Bedford County as follows:
1. 1763 Thomas Wright of Bedford County,
2. 1815 Joseph Wright of Bedford County, Virginia,
3. 1844 Joseph Wright of Hardin County, Kentucky,
4. 1856 Martin G. Wright of Hardin County, Kentucky,
5. Sanford P. Wright,
6. Ernest Wright,
7. Frank Easly Wright, Sr., and
8. Frank Easly Wright, Jr.

James Dillon Wright is a descendant of John Wright (Montgomery County) as follows:
1. John Wright (Montgomery County, Virginia),
2. Smith Wright (Pulaski County, Virginia),
3. 1901 Crockett Anderson Wright of Franklin County, Virginia
4. 1932 Joel Thomas Wright of Franklin County, Virginia,
5. 1995 Frank Dillon Wright of Franklin County, Virginia,
6. James Dillon Wright.

The matching Y-DNA sequences means that both descend from the common ancestor and that common ancestor was 1815 Joseph Wright of Bedford County, Virginia, as set forth above.

Robert N.
It is with heavy heart that I report the loss of Bob Kendall Wright. Bob was born Sept. 8, 1928 to Daniel Elijan Wright and Vera Lucille Riggan. Bob died on cancer on June 6, 2008 in Richardson Texas. I will miss him very much. He made many wonderful contributions in the Wright family line with as many years of genealogical research. I will always remember my Aunt Vera (Riggan) and her son, Bob Wright. If you have any thoughts or rememberances of Bob, please leave me a message here :) Again, many thanks Bob.

Further DNA Results -1713 Francis Wright of Westmoreland Co VA

Dear Fellow Researchers,

New DNA results have been posted at the Wright DNA Project for Werter Gregory Wright, Kit No. 123670.

Greg's line of descent is as follows:
1. 1655 Francis Wright of Yorkshire County, England,
2. 1663 Richard Wright of Northumberland County, Virginia,
3. 1713 Francis Wright of Westmoreland County, Virginia,
4. 1741 Richard Wright of Westmoreland County, Virginia,
5. 1776 Francis Wright of Westmoreland County, Virginia,
6. 1830/40 Benedict Wright of Westmoreland County, Virginia,
7. 1891 Francis W. Wright of Westmoreland County, Virginia,
8. 1921 Robert Benjamin Wright of Westmoreland County, Virginia,
9. 1954 Werter Gregory Wright, Sr. of Westmoreland County, Virginia,
10. 2000 Werter Gregory Wright, Jr., of Westmoreland County, Virginia, and
11. Werter Gregory Wright III.

Greg still lives on the farm in Westmoreland County that contains the family burying ground and has been very helpful on this project, as well as a delightful new acquaintance.

Greg's Y-DNA matches on 35 of 36 markers with that of James Logan Wright, Kit No. 71409, and 32 of 37 with Peter Wright, Kit No. 108246, both of whom also descend from 1655 Francis Wright of Yorkshire County, England. All are of Hapologroup J2.

In a prior posting to this list on February 8, I noted that the descendants of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County, Virginia, are of Haplogroup R1b1, now refined to R1b1b2.

Haplogroups J2 and R1b1b2 are so far apart that there is no family connection between the groups within recorded history.

Greg's DNA results, therefore, add further and possibly conclusive evidence that the families of 1655 Francis Wright of Yorkshire, England, and 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County, Virginia, were unrelated and represented two entirely separate Wright lines.

The further result is that 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County, Virginia, was not the son of 1729/30 John Wright of Stafford County or the grandson of 1713 Francis Wright of Westmoreland County and his wife Anne (Washington) Wright, as was asserted by Charles Hoppin in his Tyler's Quarterly articles in 1919 and 1923 and his book on the Washington Ancestry in 1932.

I thought you all would be interested to know about this development and I will be happy to try to answer any questions anyone may have.

Best wishes,

Robert N. Grant
15 Campo Bello Court
Menlo Park, CA 94025
RNGrant@grantandgordon.com

I am looking for any ancestors of Valsain G C Wright born in North Carolina about 1805. Married to Rachael Reed born in North Carolina about 1807. With such an unusual name you would think he would be easy to find. No such luck. He was my grandmother's grandfather. His son was James, married to Delia, a Cherokee, from North Carolina. After Delia's death he remarried. But when he died, she just turned all the kids over to the orphanage in Tennessee and from there they were scattered to the four winds on the orphan train. If anyone has any kind of info, let me know.

I am looking for the two sons of Lt. Cmdr. William Alexander Wright-Frederick and William-who were residing in the Seattle area when their father passed away in Port Sanilac in 1985. Your father's 1937 log hunting cabin, which he built himself, has been donated and relocated to the Sanilac County Historic Village & Museum in Port Sanilac and, once it's refurbished, it will, in part, honor your father specifically for his military record and for building the cabin and all the hunters, trappers and sports fishermen of Sanilac County. We have tried to contact you but have nothing except a 20+ year old very nonspecific obituary to help us. Please contact Cathi Bulone Campbell if you see this.

Joseph Wright (b 1825 England - d 1865 India) son John Henry

I am trying to locate any details about my gt gt gt grandfather Joseph Wright. I understand he had 2 sons, first child born about 1850 and my gt gt GF John Henry Wright b 25 Dec 1851 within hearing of Bow Bells, St Mary-le-Bow, Cheapside, London, England.
Oral history indicates that Joseph and his wife were medical missionaries and went to India, leaving the 2 boys in England with an uncle.
There are 3 conflicting stories:
Story 1
Joseph and wife died in India; the boys remained with their uncle until John Henry was 15. John Henry became a seaman and sailed back and forth to Australia. At some time he jumped ship in Sydney and went to the gold fields, eventually turning up in Quorn.
Story 2
Joseph and wife died in India. John Henry, his cousin and uncle emigrated to Australia. They became miners.
Story 3
Joseph returned to England and he and the 2 boys emigrated to Australia. All became miners.

John Henry's obituary indicates that he 'arrived' in Australia aged 22, i.e 1873. At the time of his marriage to Mary Jane Pickering in March 1887, John Henry was a miner (per marriage certificate).

If anyone has any further details about Joseph or John Henry, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have a David Wright that married Mary "Polly/Molly" Lowell. They had a child, Mary Wright, born about 1794 that married John L. Orr.

My question is on David. He died 1825 in Brookline, NH. He was supposedly born in Pepperell, Ma.

I found in the Pepperell records, a David, son of David Wright and Prudence Cummings, that was born 28 mar 1763. This is the only David that seemed to fit the time frame.

I'd like to find some verification that this is indeed the same David.. or if he is a different one altogether.

Does anyone have any information on David Wright?

I am trying to find if Aaron, David and James Wright were brothers. Aaron was born in England? in 1744, and died on Nov. 18, 1816 in Meadville, Fairfield Twp. Crawford Co. Pa. David was born on March 26,1751 in York Co. Pa. and died in 1838 in Fairfield Co. Ohio. James was in 1751 maybe in England I'm not sure. He died March 13, 1829. Aaron, and David might have been soldiers in the Revolutionary War from Pennsylvania. I got some of my information from a family tree, and I want to verify it.

Joshua was recently added to the DAR Patriots Index.

James moved from Washington County to Kentucky about 1780. He and Joshua were killed by Indians in separate incidents about 1781. Both were awarded sizeable posthumous land grants in Kentucky.

I have recently written a book on this Wright family that is useful for descendants wanting more information. It is 404 pages long with an every name index and well documented. It is available for $25.00 including postage. There are a few copies left. Contact me if you are interested.

I have been researching my line for around 10 years, a little at a time. I can readily go identify my ancesters back to the birth of my ggg grandfather Lyman Wright (born abt 1819 in NY) His death certificate has only blanks in the father/mother blocks. Sad, but true. Census records show his parents came from VT. Any suggestions how to cross this stumbling block? His wife was Margaret Rule(sp?)

PLEASE NOTE, THIS WAS POSTED FOR REFERENCE ONLY. I AM NOT RELATED TO, NOR AM I RESEARCHING THIS FAMILY, I’VE ONLY DONE A COPY AND PASTE FROM OUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER FYI.

THIS INFO HAS BEEN POSTED WITH THE PERMISSION OF THE EDITOR OF THE COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD.

Elda Haslam Wright
Posted: Thursday, Jul 10, 2008 - 03:55:29 pm PDT
COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD, MOSES LAKE, WASHINGTON.

Elda Haslam Wright, 89, passed away in East Wenatchee on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, from causes incidental to old age. She was born April 22, 1919, in Leavitt, Alberta, the daughter of Samuel Redford Haslam and Eliza Charlotte Broadbent. She married Chester Dean Wright on July 31, 1940, in the Alberta Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He passed away Sept. 18, 1984. Their oldest daughter, Judy, passed away June 4, 1980.

Elda attended school in Leavitt, Alberta, where she enjoyed playing softball, basketball and all kinds of games. She grew up on a farm and, with her brothers, did typical chores each evening. When she was in the 10th grade she worked as a domestic for the Hudson family in Raymond, while she completed her high school education.

Elda and the family moved to Moses Lake in October of 1956. She worked as a sales clerk at W T Grants and later at Grandmothers Treasure House. She was the Ward Chorister in the Moses Lake 1st Ward of more than 40 years. Her love of music led her to be the Moses Lake Stake Chorister for a number of years. While in that position, she led Youth Choirs to the All Church performances in Salt Lake City. She was also involved with the Youth Choir, which performed at the Spokane World's Fair. She received many awards as an 'Elect Lady.'

Elda had a passion for quilting. She taught many the joy of quilting. She judged quilting at the Grant County Fair for a number of years, along with other county fairs. She has made quilts for family and friends throughout her years. It was once said she was always willing to try a new pattern. If a pattern did not exist, she would make one.

She is survived by her sons, Milo of Salt Lake City, Utah, Clark of East Wenatchee and Tony of Kirkland, Wash., daughter, Sharon Beauregard of Corpus Christi, Texas; and her sister, Mamie of Red Deer, Alberta. Four sisters and five brothers preceded her in death.

Funeral Services will be held at the Rose Street Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Friday, July 11, 2008, at 1 p.m. Interment in Pioneer Memorial Gardens, Moses Lake.
Prior Wright was a member of the 4th Regiment of Booth's Georgia Militia at Fort Hawkins, Macon, Georgia in November 1814. He first appears in Milledgeville when the 1820 census shows that he and his wife Margaret S. were born between 1794-1804 and had one son under 10. Margaret S. died in 1837. On 25 July 1839 Pryor Wright married his second wife, Elizabeth Youngblood, in Baldwin County. He died before 7 November 1840 when his son John S. Wright was appointed to administer the estate of Pryor Wright by the Inferior Court of Hancock County.
Who were Pryor Wright's parents? When and where was he born?
Identification of John Wright (Montgomery County)

This is being posted to the Wright, Bedford County and Montgomery County, Virginia, lists, so you may receive multiple copies.

Thanks to a suggestion from Roberta Horton, an identification has been made of John Wright (Montgomery County).

John Wright (Montgomery County) was a son of 1815 Joseph Wright of Bedford County and his first wife Elizabeth (Kemp) Wright and a grandson of 1763 Thomas Wright of Bedford County and Mary (_____) Wright.

The basis of that identification is as follows:

The Personal Property Tax Lists of Montgomery County, Virginia, list John Wright (Montgomery County) as a resident in Montgomery County from 1787 until 1839 when Pulaski County was formed from the part of Montgomery County in which John resided and then the Personal Property Tax Lists for Pulaski County list John Wright as a resident in Pulaski County until 1844 or 1845 when he probably died. Only one John Wright was listed in the Montgomery County Personal Property Tax Lists in those years, except for the following:
1)	In 1810 a John Wright (B.F.) was also listed with John Wright (Montgomery County,
2)	In 1816 a John Wright, Sr., and John Wright, Jr., were listed in the Joseph Reyburn List while John Wright (Montgomery County) was listed in the Cyrus Robinson List, the same list in which he had been listed as in 1815,
3)	In 1820 when a John Wright was listed in the John B. Goodrich List while John Wright (Montgomery County) was listed in the William Curren List,
4)	In 1821 when a John Wright, Sr., and John Wright, Jr., were listed in the John B. Goodrich List while John Wright (Montgomery County) was listed in the William Currin List.

Exceptions 2 and 4 are discussed more fully below.

The will of 1815 Joseph Wright dated February 21, 1815, and probated on September 11, 1815, at Bedford County, Virginia, Superior Court Book A/15 listed John Wright as one of his children. John Wright, the son of 1815 Joseph Wright, was allotted two parcels of land from the estate of his father: the first was Lot number 11 consisting of 200 acres in Franklin County allotted in the Division and Allotment at Bedford County W.B. 4/255 dated June 22, 1816, and the second parcel was Lot number 8 consisting of 15 acres in Franklin County allotted in the Division and Allotment at Bedford County W.B. 4/262 dated August 22, 1816. On November 5, 1816, at Franklin County, Virginia, Deed 7/559, John Wright of Montgomery County sold Lot number 8 to James Mays and on November 5, 1816, at Franklin County, Virginia, D.B. 7/560 John Wright of Montgomery County sold Lot Number 11 to James Mays. The significant reference in both deeds is to John Wright as of Montgomery County.

The only John Wright in Montgomery County in 1816 who could have been the grantor of these deeds was John Wright (Montgomery County), which identifies him as the son of 1815 Joseph Wright of Bedford County.

Two sets of evidence that pose potential contradictions of that conclusion need to be addressed.

The first set of evidence is the listing of John Wright, Sr., and John Wright, Jr., in the 1816 and in the 1821 Montgomery County, Virginia, Personal Property Tax Lists mentioned above. These John Wrights were father and son and can be traced from Frederick County to Rockbridge County to Bedford County to Montgomery County and then to Russell County, Virginia. The marriage record of John Wright and Martha McLaughlin was dated on January 23, 1810, at Rockbridge County, Virginia. The 1813 Personal Property Tax List for Bedford County listed John Wright and John Wright, Jr., on April 12, 1813, in the Northern District. The 1814 Personal Property Tax List for Bedford County listed John Wright, Sen., and John Wright, Jr. in the John Wharton or Northern District. As set forth above, the 1816 Personal Property Tax List for Montgomery County, Virginia, listed John Wright, Sr., and John Wright, Jr., in the Joseph Reyburn List. The 1820 Census for Montgomery County, Virginia, listed John Wright, Sr., age 45 or older, and John Wright, Jr., age 26 to 45. The 1821 Personal Property Tax List for Montgomery County, Virginia, listed John Wright, Sr., and John Wright, Jr., in the John B. Goodrich District. The 1850 Census for Russell County, Virginia, listed John Wright, Sr., age 65 and born in Frederick County, Virginia, with wife Pastey, age 60 and born in Rockbridge County, Virginia. This is clearly John Wright, Jr., and his wife Martha (McLaughlin) Wright of the 1810 Rockbridge County marriage record. Their oldest child in the household was listed as George Wright, age 22 and born in Russell County, Virginia, indicating their move to that county by about 1828. The marriage record of Paris Wright and Mary _____ in 1845 in Wise County listed his parents as John Wright and Martha McLaughlin. The 1850 Census for Russell County, Virginia, listed Parris Wright and his wife Polly Wright immediately adjacent to John Wright, Sr., and Parris's age as 28 and born in Montgomery County, Virginia, which is consistent with John Wright, Jr.’s listing in the 1821 Montgomery County, Virginia, Personal Property Tax List. This trail of records makes clear that the John Wright, Sr., and John Wright, Jr., of the 1816 Montgomery County, Virginia, Personal Property Tax List were a different family from that of 1815 Joseph Wright of Bedford County and simply happened to reside in Montgomery County from 1816 to about 1822 during their migration from Frederick County to Rockbridge County to Bedford County to Montgomery County and to Russell County, Virginia. Therefore, neither of these John Wrights could have been the grantor of Bedford County Deeds 7/559 and 7/560.

The second set of evidence that needs to be addressed is several listings in the Franklin County, Virginia, Personal Property Tax Lists of a John Wright, son of J. Wright. The 1804 Personal Property Tax List had “John Wright J son”, the 1805 List had “John Wright JS”, the 1806 List had “John Wright J son”, and the 1807 and 1809 Lists had “John Wright Jur”. These listings might have been referring to John Wright, son of 1815 Joseph Wright, which would then place that John Wright in Franklin County at the same time John Wright (Montgomery County) was listed as resident in Montgomery County. When Sorting Some Of The Wrights Of Southern Virginia, Part I: 1763 Thomas Wright of Bedford County was written, there was no other possible John Wright who was a son of a J. Wright known to reside in Franklin County other than John Wright, the son of 1815 Joseph Wright of Bedford County. However, later research based on information provided by Nathan Murphy established that 1845 John Wright of Franklin County had a son 1848/50 John Wright of Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, who married in 1805 and resided in Franklin County until 1810 and then moved to his land in Muhlenberg County which he had purchased in 1809. This information is set forth in Sorting Some Of The Wrights Of Southern Virginia, Part III: 1809 William Wright Of Franklin County. The result is that the “John Wright J son” of those Franklin County Personal Property Tax Lists was 1848/50 John Wright of Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, and not John Wright (Montgomery County) and there is, therefore, no inconsistency in the listings.

The conclusion seems fair that John Wright (Montgomery County) was the son of 1815 Joseph Wright of Bedford County and grandson of 1763 Thomas Wright of Bedford County. As will be set forth below, this John Wright was born before 1766 and probably between 1760 and 1765 and, therefore, would be 1815 Joseph Wright’s son by his first marriage to Elizabeth (Kemp) Wright.

A male Wright descendant of 1763 Thomas Wright of Bedford County has participated in the Wright DNA Project and is Kit 42281 and his Y-DNA sequence is posted at http://www.wright-dna.org/dna/OtherResults.html under 1763 Thomas. A male Wright descendant of Smith Wright (Pulaski County), a probable son of John Wright (Montgomery County), has agreed to participate in the Wright DNA Project. If his Y-DNA matches that of Kit 42281, then this identification of John Wright (Montgomery County) will be confirmed.

I will be happy to exchange information on these various Wright families with other interested researchers.

Robert N. Grant
15 Campo Bello Court
Menlo Park, CA 94025
RNGrant@grantandgordon.com
