Hi Charbet - I have not found anything more on John but I have found more on Jane, her maiden name was Jowett not Jewett as I had thought. This opened up a lot more doors! Have you checked immigration and naturalization records? I have been meaning to get into Philly to do that but it keeps getting sidelined.

Indenture of Joseph Wrigley (1815) of Yorkshire in 1829

We are interested in any knowledge of this Indenture of our great grandfather. In 1997 John S. Ryan posted this query on Rootsweb:

"Subject: Re: WRIGLEY Joseph; Saddleworth,York,ENG>USA; 1815-1890
Date: Mon, 19 May 1997 07:12:39 GMT
In article <5lnc9h$ eof@bl-4.rootsweb.com>, "John S. Ryan"
< j.ryan@ieee.org> writes
>We are interested in the ancestory and heritage of Joseph Wrigley.
>We have in our posession an Indenture dated the Nineth Day of
>February in the Tenth Year of the Reign of our Soveriegn Lord George
>Fourth* etc., which apprenticed Joseph to John Turner to learn the
>trade and business of fine drawer and letterer. The document is signed
>by: Mary Wrigley, widow, his mother; Joseph; John Turner; and
>John Lawton, attorney.
>
>We have little information about his early years in USA, but it is believed
>that he resided in Massachusetts. He died in 1890 in Oakfield, Genesee
>County, New York and was buried there.
>
>*Does anyone know what year this is?"
A respondent noted the date was 9 Feb 1829. Ryan's e-mail is no longer valid. This query provided critical clues on Joseph's parents and we need to confirm them.

Hi Robert,

I am currently tracing family trees on both mine and my husband's paternal and maternal sides. My husband has a Luke Wrigley born 1873 in Ballarat Vic who is his great g/father. His paternal grandmother was Ethel Coronatia Wrigley daughter of Luke Wrigley and Ellen Ethel Berryman.

I believe this Luke Wrigley's parents were Luke Wrigley and Martha Swindles, both born in Lancashire.

I am trying to track back from the Lancashire Wrigleys and also Ellen's parents - Richard Berryman and Mary Ann Johns both born in Cornwall.

Do you have any more details that could assist i.e. birth and/or marriage details for Luke and Martha or the Berryman side?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards, Glenda

He died in 1880 in Andover, Massachusetts.
I believe his father was Matthew Wrigley and his wife was Betty Unknown.
Thats all I know.
I wish you lots of luck. The Wrigley family seems to dead end in the
late 1700's.
Fred

Hi,
I'm in Auckland researching Wrigleys but none of mine match yours. However, we may have both found others that do not suit us but may be related to the other's.
I have put a 'tree' on Ancestry.com and I'd be happy for you to look at it. The tree is named Diane Wrigley - I think.
Keep in touch.
Diane O'Sullivan
09 570 - 2751

Just read your post. Are you related to the late Sarah Wrigley who died in the 1960's ? She was related to my Grandma, Fanny (Taylor) Warhurst, and we received a huge computer printout, quite thick, of all the relatives/family tree....and my Dad threw it out ! He was not into geneology. I believe Sarah died in Oldham. I would like to find someone with a copy of that family tree.
Leigh Anne Caldwell,
Belleville, Ontario,Canada

Hi.Am looking for a Sarah Wrigley, who was my Grandma's ( Fanny (Taylor) Warhurst's Aunt, or Great Aunt. Sarah died in the 1960's,in England. Fanny Taylor also died then in about 1960 or 1961 in Toronto, Ontario,Canada. Grandma (Fanny) received a small share of Sarah Wrigley's estate. We were told Sarah was related to the Wrigley Gum Company people. Grandma had a brother named John Taylor. We are related to Sarah Wrigley through Grandma, Fanny Taylor.Fanny married Ralph Warhurst and they lived in Oldham, Lancashire. My Dad got a huge computer printout of family history when Sarah died in the 1960's, but he threw it out !! That was our only deep link to Grandma's ancestory. I don't know if any of my Wrigley's relate to yours or not. But you never know.
I now live near Belleville, Ontario,Canada.Hope anything I said here might help.
Leigh Anne Caldwell ( ne Warhurst)

James had a son called Rupert Bede and there was a Bede Wrigley born c 1840 who became a priest and is burried in Bristol.Bede may have been Rupert's uncle but I havn't researched England yet.

I think most Wrigleys would be C/E or Pres, it is interesting how or why this group remained R/C in England, probably goes back to events in the 1600s.
