My name is Rick Gray. I have just recently learned that my great-great grandmothers maiden name was Wysinger and that she was born in South Carolina.
Her name was Dr. Betty Wysinger and she married a Billy Brown who was born in North Carolina. They moved to Kentucky where my great-grandfather Charles B. Brown was born.
This information is just about all that I know about them though.
I have searched the Census records of South Carolina and can only find one Wysinger family there -- that was on the 1790 Census and it only listed the head of household as Mathias Wysinger. I cannot find where this family went to after 1790 because they do not show up on the 1800 census or afterward.
I just thought I would take a chance and see if any of you might have something in your files that might help me. There are so many Browns in North Carolina that I thought I would try the search on the Wysinger family first. If they did go into North Carolina then it might tell me where to look for on my Brown side.
I know the Billy was probably short for William. From the 1900 Tennessee Census I know that Charles listed his dad's birthplace as North Carolina and his mothers as South Carolina. Charles left here (Tennessee) in 1928 when his grandkids that are still living were all young. None of them remembered what his parents names were. I was finally able this weekend to contact a granddaughter from his second marriage who told me what their names were. That is all the info she had though. She said that Charles is listed in the Bible as being born in Paducah, Kentucky but no date listed even on that. The Census records on Charles are so varied that he could have been born anywhere from 1847 to 1859. The only other info the Bible records gave was a mention of a Frank Brown as a child. It also listed that Betty Wysinger Brown was a doctor and Billy Brown was a minister.
This has been such a roadblock for me for so long. I would just love to break down the barrier on one side.
Thanks so much for you time and any help that you can give me. I feel that there has to be a connection somehow.
