Going backwards, I've found a link between myself and Don Juan De Xavier through my great grandfather, Clarence Enoch Dayley. His mother was Annie Sever, whose father was Herman Severe (b. 1820). His father was James Severe (b. 1775) who was the son of Robert Severe (b. 1750, Virginia). Robert's father was William Severe (b. 1702, England), making Robert the grandson of Valentine "The Huguenot" Sevier (b. 1678, Navarre, France). But his mother was Catherine O'Neil, not Joanna Goad. So, where, if at all, does Gen. John Sevier fit into this tree? Was he Robert's half-brother?

Why is it, that everything I read in Family Trees, have Sevier's & Xavier's birth & death dates a hundred years different than ie "Wikipedia" & other Encyclopedia's? St Francis' birth is said to be April 1506. Here are some links. Is this the family related to Valentine Sevier?

I have Valentine "The H de Xavier bn 1678 Navarre, France married to Mary Smith bn 1685 in Parish of St. Giles, Cripringate, London, England. They had a son named Valentine "The I Sevier bn 1701-02 in London. Would this be the grandfather of Gen. John Sevier which you refer to? Thanks, Pauli (dpsears@artelco.com).

How are you related to James Sevier bn 312 Aug 1777 TN - the son of Valentine Sevier and Naomi Douglass? I am doing research for my granddaughter on her paternal line. On a web site I have found information back to ancestors of James and Valentine Seview listed as Don Juan (de J de Xavier. This family was from near Navarre, France. 1685 - Some of the family of St. Francis Xavier, living at Xavier, and bearing the name of the town as a family name, had embraced the Protestant religion, and one of them, a devout young Huguenot, Don Jaun Xavier, left France after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes (1685) by Louis XIV. He settled in London, gradually changed the family name to Sevier, pronounced like the English adjective "severe," and his first name to John. He married a London girl named Smith. I am looking for info on my grandfather's family.
His name was Manuel Xavier b. March 1906 in Riberia Seca, Ribeira Grande Azores Portugal. On his birth certificate his mother is listed as Branca Xavier (on her death certificate it says Mary b. 1881 d. 2/11/1939 in MA.) And her Parents are listed as Manoel Xavier Tavares & Jacinta Guilhermina Tavares. I don't have any information on my grandfather's father who is unknown( but someone did say his last name may be Silva) or anything else on his mother's Branca parents.
My Grandpa did have siblings. Their names were Marie b.1910 d.7-20-1972, Jeremiah(Jerry) b.1916 d. 1938 & Irene b.1913 still living but is unwilling to help in my search..
My grandpa married Marion Custodio b. 1908 d.1978.

My family is related to the Xaviers through my mother, Lucille Johnson [Brown] - My mother and Edith write each year and try to stay in contact with each other - Our families spent time together when we were young in the 50's and on - I remember the times going to Walhalla, ND and other various parishes served by Karl - I have many great memories - I have been in email contact with John and he and Edith are working on a questionaire that I sent to Edith 2 years ago - I am interested in dates, marriages, family history, photos, family links, etc. - I am in the midst of our Family History which is involved and takes times - I have a huge Family Tree Program filled with our families - I use Family Tree Ver. 10 and have incorporated other peoples family histories into mine through attachments over email - My mother is Lucille and I think Edith is mothers Great Aunt through the Browns of Franklin, MN - Hope to hear from you Mary - My email is: rroidsj@i2k.com

His parents were Simon Benden and Anastasia Wagner.
What I need is who he married and children. I have found through letters he married and had 16 children and he was called "Jerry" but nothing else. Could someone please help. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I am doing a family history of our family, and I sent about 8 pages of info to your mother, Edith Xavier, about 3 years ago. I have had no response as of yet. I know Edith is failing in eyesight and have been talking to my mother Lucille Johnson about Edith. Would like family history of the Xavier family. If Edith still has all my info could you please help her fill it out. I'll always remember Paul as a great guy, and your dad Karl was a great guy. Hi Raymond. Yes this is too interesting. I just talked to my mother and some of the family were wondering what happened to Amelia (Emelia). Do you know of any other family members? What line do you come from. It must be one of Amelias children. I have all the names of Christinas' children, ( daughter of Amelia). Do you want these. Where do you live? Some of the family now is in California, Texas, Hawaii and Mississippi. The only thing I'am not sure of is Amelia father. We were told he came from France but not sure of this. Write back right away. Hi Matt, no I do not live in Madeira. Right now I live in North Dakota. I grew up in California, Riverside. My mother lives in Hemet. She knows alot more names than I do. I do recall her mentioning the name Maria Silva. Dont know if it is the same one. What was Emelia parents names? I have a list of all the descendants if you need any other names. I am descended from Don Juan De Xavier of Navarre, (either France or Spain.) I am curious does anyone know anything about him? He was born abt. 1652, I believe from a wealthy family. There is speculation that he was born at Xavier Castle in Navarre. His son Valentine Xavier was said to have been a French Huegenot.

My greatgrandmothers' name was Christina Xavier, her mothers name was Emelia Candida Xavier, she had three children that we know of. There was of course Christina, and Franciso and Virginia, I believe. They went to Hawaii, Christina stayed but Emelia and husband and two children we heard went to Brazil. This is what I have:

Emelia Candida Xavier born 1853 on Madeira. Married to Jose Xavier de Freitas who was born 6/2/1845. They traveled to Hawaii eventually settling on Maui arriving at the islands on 3/4/1886 aboard the SS Stirlingshire with their children Francisco, Christina and Virginia.

Emelia's parents were Manuel da Silva Jacinto and Eufemia Candida de Andrade. Jose's parents were Francisco Xavier de Freitas and Marcelina de Freitas My parents got this info last summer on their trip to Madeira.

If you have a moment please shares names and birthdates, etc. In my research, I discovered that Jose's father went to Brazil and help found a settlement on the Acre River deep in the Amazon jungle. Jose eventually left Maui for Brazil and his son Francisco followed alhtough I am not sure exactly where they ended up in Brazil. I would like to find out.

What do you do in North Dakota? I live in San Diego and am married with 2 children.

My name is Matt Xavier. I came across your e-mail to Raymond Gomes and found a connection.

Francisco, the first born son of Emelia Candida Xavier, was my great grandfather. Francisco went to Hawaii with his father Jose Xavier de Freitas and mother. They settled on the island of Maui in the town of Wailuku. His father changed his name to Jose Freitas Xavier at the request of the sugar cane planation owner since many of the other arriving portuguese had the last name of Freitas (not unlike the common name
Smith in America). After marrying Maria Silva and bearing several children he left for Brazil without his family. All I know is that he meet up with his father there. His father's father, I believe helped settle Brazil. His name was also Francisco Xavier de Freitas. I have Emelia's father's and mothers name is you need them.

Do you live on Madeira? I am planning on visiting there this summer. Do you know Francisco Gomes who lives there?

ReNae, My great grandfather was Manuel Xavier de Bettencourt and my great grandmother was Maria Julia de Bettencourt. Manuel's parents were Joaquim Xavier de Bettencourt Madruga and Inacia do Carmo Bettencourt. All are from Pico, Azores, Portugal. My name is James Xavier Wilson. So far, I'm not aware of any Elizabeth Xavier.

This was my Great Grandmother. I heard she was buried at sea enroute to Brazil with her husband, Joao Hermiterio Gomes. Their son Gabriel was returned to Madeira and raised by her father whom I don't know. Any connection?

This is very interesting. My great-grandmother died in transit to Brazil and was burried at sea. The children returned to Madiera to be raised by a grandfather.

You are related to my husband, whose family tree I am researching. His grandfather is Iven Schuyler (living). Ivan is the son of Herbert Schuyler, who was married to Lucy Gonsalves. Lucy's parents were Gregorio Rebiera Gonsalves and Christina Xavier. Christina's parents were Jose Xavier and Emelia Candida.
If you have history that you can fill in on these people and also names and histories of previous generations I would be grateful. We are also in So. Cal.
