I am looking for info on Xenakis family from Chios.
James Xenakis born 9/1900 died in 1982. married to Katherine and had 2 sons. He came to the US in 1924. He worked aboard the Edison bringing immigrants back and forth. His mother was Kalliope Mentonsis and his father was John Xenakis.
His wife Katherine Vlattas born march 12 1913 and died June 4 2000. Her Mother was Angelka Lemanis and her father was Emanuel Vlattas. They came to the US in 1931.

Eldon Penrose Lietz is my 2nd cousin once removed. If you still have the pictures and documents you mentioned, I would be happy to take them and hunt down the appropriate relatives to take them. Eldon's mother, Lizzie Louise Penrose, and my grandmother were first cousins. The accident you mentioned happened one mile south of Kanosh, Utah. Connie's brother was also killed in the accident.

I am looking for info on my grandmother and grandfather from Chios, Greece. Dimitrios (James) Xenakis was born 14 September 1900 (unoffical) from Chios and died 1982 in the USA. His mother was Kalliope MENTONIS and his father was John XENAKIS. He immigrated to the U.S.A. 1924 ? He worked aboard the ship "Edison", bringing immigrants back & forth to the USA from Greece. Katherine (Catherine or Caterina) VLATTAS XENAKIS was born 12 March 1913 and died 4 June 2000. Her mother was Angelika ALEMIS and her father was Emanuel VLATTAS. They immigrated to America in 1931. She had a wealthy family in Greece and left when the Turks were taking over Chios, so I am told. They had 2 sons: John Xeankis (my father) and Stanley Xenakis

My father came from a small village near Kalamata in the Peloponese called Anthousa.

I have heard that this name is a Creton name and we are trying to figure out if we are in fact, Creton, and not Kalamatiane.

I have a box of old photos, marriage and death certificates that were found in a storage unit. We have no record of who owned the box but would like to find a family member who may wish to have them.

The marriage certificate is for
Eldon Penrose Lietz db. April 3, 1920 to
Connie Dean Xenakis db. March 4, 1923
married in Las Vegas, NV

Death certificate is for their daughter:
Joanne Louise Lietz db. March 28, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah

Joanne was killed in a car accident in 1951.

I would hate to see this pictures destroyed. They are someone's memories.

Did you know Katherine & james Xenakis from Brooklyn NY? They had 2 sons John(my father)& Stan. My grandmother use to stay in Mass. with family occasionally.

Looking for family from Chios. The village that they are from sounds like Vrutavo,it's near the ocean. They were merchant marines & also had sheep and were wealthy I am told.

birth Sept 14 1900 unofficial died 1982 U.S.A.

his father: John Xenakis
Dimitrios came to U.S.A. 1924(?) he had a brother named Kostas. Kostas had 2 daughters Poppy & Funate & 1 son John born c1933. If anyone has info please contact me.

I have family from Chios by the name Xenakis. I am doing a family tree. Does anyone have info on the following.
Katherine Xenakis (maiden nameVlattas) came here 1931
Dimitrios(James) Xenakis came here 1924

Othe names include Mentonis, Alemis from Chios.
Anyone have info? I'd appreiciate it.

Hi James,

I just know that his mother was named Maria and father Constantino, and a sister called Elena. I do not remember the village. It was about 40 years ago. The father also had a brother named James who was married to a Katherine and had two sons John and Jimmy who did lived in the US. I think James and Katherine went back to Chios when he retired.

Hello Betty,

I've just started assembling my family hsitory and came across your posting.

My mother (Soultana) immigrated from Greece to the United States in the mid 1950's. Her maiden name is Xenakis. Her mother (Koula) came over in the early sixties. Her father John was killed in WWII.

My mother lived in Woburn MA, Haverhill MA, and Nashua NH until her death in 1981.
