Hi,
I am also a descendant of Emanuel Yahne - he is my 3rd Ggrandfather. Emanuel and Emily's son was Frederick Harrison Yahne. He married Elizabeth Sebring and his daughter was Nora Ellen Yahne. She married Carl Hoover and their daughter was Opal B. Hoover. She married Fred D. Keefer and their son is William G. Keefer. He married Elizabeth McClure and their daughter is me, Kathie Keefer.
I have a lot of information on Emanuel, including a copy of a handwritten letter to his brother during the Civil War. Let me know if you need any information :-)

Kathie Keefer

I was told by my grandfather that the Yahne name comes from Germany and was a variation of John. John is pronounced JAHN. In Latin it is Ioahnnes. So you can kinda see where they got the name from. Whether this is speculation or truth, I have not found any actual evidence of this being a solid truth.

Frederick Yahne is an ancestor of mine--I believe he was my great-grandfather. I don't have the docs in front of me, but my dad's name is Ralph Elwood Carlson, son of George Gilbert Carlson and Mable Yahne (I believe she was a Yahne. George Gilbert predeceased and Mabel Carlson; she later remarried a man by the name of Rickert. George Gilbert and mabel Carlson died in Spokane, Washington. My dad Ralph Carlson married Bilen Herr Gordon of Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania. I am the eldest of five siblings of this marriage.

I just saw the portrait of Mae and Ressie Risser on your 2007 post. Emily Mae (Risser) Ploughe was my mother. I also have a copy of that picture. There is a mimeographed copy of the Yahne family in the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, IN. I do not know if it is the same as referred to by Rachel Yahne in another reply to your query. Did you ever have the chance to get together? I have a copy of the marriage certificate of Emeline Yahne to William Henry Risser. I also have some other information if I have time to dig it all out. Bill

Dear Judy & Neal, Sorry so long in writing back to you. I didn't see that I had a reply until today. William Yahnes' son, Melvin, was my gg-grandfather, his son, Burnell "Jake" Yahne was my g-grandfather, his son Jack Yahne, Sr. was my grandfather, and my father is Jack Yahne, Jr. I live in Avilla,IN, and still have a few immediate relatives in Huntington. My gg-aunt Mary Yahne Burnworth, who was Melvin and Lillie Yahnes' youngest child is still alive and well living in Huntington. Did you post the pictures of the gravestones at the Roanoke cemetery? I just went there two weeks ago and have pictures now of every Yahne grave that is there. Do you know why Zola Yahne died so young? Just curious. If you reply at my regular email; mysullivanjack@yahoo.com, I will see it and write back more promptly. Thankyou for answering my post! Yours, Rachel Yahne

I'd like to know what part of Germany they came from and where they are buried. Also, I found a marriage record for Fredrick Yahne and Susan Kimmel m in 1840 in Carroll, Ohio. I can't figure this out. Is this the same Fredrick A that married to Anna Shook ? Also if you know where Fredrick A Yahne is buried I'd love to know.

Hi Brenda, Charles F. was my 4xgr.father, but charles Jr. was my 3xgr. father, he was Harriet's brother. It appears everyone in the family moved from Stark Co.Ohio to Indiana except Charles Jr. who settled in Wyandot Co. Ohio. Charles could not I believe read or write, because his will was made out by a lawyer and he was to make his mark for a signature. (I have his will.) This I believe is how our name got to be spelled Yahney. Charles Jr. was born in 1819 not 1841 as it shows in ancestry.com, I have his death record. His parents would of been in there fifty's when they had him, somebody is not figuring right. So if you find any Yahney's in Ohio were all related,I know them all. There are some in New York and Florida but they are Jewish and they came from Greece and just happen to change the spelling of there name to ours.
Limerick was one of the names in our family history too along with Dietelbach, Lambert,Gust,Daringer, anything sound familiar?? You can contact at christine.1.clark@gm.com if you want.

co.

Chris, This is what I have connecting to Charles F. Yahne.
Charles F. Yahne(1791-1853) m. Elizabeth Ricker(1791-?). Their daughter Harriet Yahne(1822-1897) m. Commodore C. Limerick(1821-1876), their daughter Sue Limerick(1858-1926) m. Thomas Ludwell Shadle(1854-1930). Their daughter Nova Elizabeth Shadle(1887-1963) m. Andrew Newton Baughman. Their daughter Lotta Baughman(1922- ) m. Max Rosenkranz. Their son Lee Allen Rosenkranz(1958- ) m. Brenda Lerch(me).
Hope this makes a connection, for I would appreciate more info on the Yahne family.
Brenda

Brenda how does your husbands family line travel down to Charles??? He was my gr.gr.gr.father too and I'm trying to collect as much information as I can. Some that I have found is not correct. I have his death cerificate. He was married to Margaret McIninch 3-24-1842 in Stark Co.Ohio. But I'm not sure of how many children they had, I know 2 of them.Plus Charles married again late in life after Margaret died. CHRIS-YAHNEY CLARK

It appears Frederick and Charles were brothers. The earliest record I have found was 1830 Census, Ohio, Stark Co. Sandy Township. Frederick married Anna Mary Shook. They were among the first settlers in Indiana, moving there in 1840. They settled in Huntington County. His son Emmanuel Yahne is my ggggrandfather.
