Re: YAHR / MEIR / MIER / FORD Surnames

I am searching for my grandfather by the first name of Karl/Carl and last name of Mier. My grandmother, Harriet Anna Peterson, originally from Crystal Lake County, Michigan, married Karl Mier and gave birth to three sons: Oscar Hemholtz Mier, Frederick Kurtis Mier, and Phillip Mier. She later divorced him and moved on to Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Would anyone with information pertaining to either of these families, especially the Mier side from northern Michigan, please respond? It would mean a lot. Thanks!

Jasmine

I am looking for info on the Jahr's that came from Germany in the 1880's. I have August G Jahr who was born in 1874. He married Mary Jahr. They resided in Michigan. The Jahr last name was later changed to Yahr, for easier american prenouncing. Their son William A Yahr married Agatha Yahr and are my husbands GGGrandparents.

I'm really not informed about the Yahrs' earlier generations. However, I believe my grandfather came from Eastern Germany. Some of his brothers went on to Oregon or Washington. I don't know of any relatives in Pittsburgh. Again the exception, my nephew Terry Yahr was a resident of West Newton, PA for a couple of years as a pastor. I'm retired service and have lived in VA, Fl, MN, and presently live in IL. Two of my brothers still live in West Bend, WI. Edna's two surviving sons are retired. Donald I believe lives, at least he retired in St. Louis, MO. Warren retired in Madison' WI. What is your relationship to our clan?

Hi Jan....

My mother was a Yahr....from Galicia, a town called Ottynia which was then Austria-Hungary, became Poland and now is Ukraine. She came in 1921 with her mother and a few other siblings. Her father, Issac Yahr, died in Ottynia. He was in the forestry business. I think I've been told the name means "tree". Actually, in Europe, it's spelled "Jahr". Unfortunately, records and cemeteries in their town were pretty much destroyed so it's difficult to find out much about them. Would love to pursue this and see if there could be some connection way, way, way back. Write to me at "Barbsanger@aol.com". BTW, the other Jan wrote to me and forwarded your message to her. But, I'm still confused about who's who as all your family is new to me.

Why don't you write me directly at "Barbsanger@aol.com"?
My mother was a Yahr. However, no pastors in our family as we're Jewish. There may have been a connection several generations back, even so. My grandfather was Issac Yahr, but he died in Galicia---which is an area that was Austria-Hungary. My grandmother came here in 1921 with some of the children including my mother.
