James C. Yancey, 75, of Helenwood, passed away September 12, 2008
James C. Yancey, 75, of Helenwood, passed away September 12, 2008, at St. Mary’s of Scott County in Oneida.
Born in Scott County, June 13, 1933, he was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Flora Stanley Yancey; his wife, Nella Pha Yancey; one sister, Orangie Duncan; two brothers: Arnold Duncan, Sr., and Mack H. Yancey; father-in-law, Rosier Cross; and brother-in-law, Darryl Cross. He was a member of White Rock Baptist Church and enjoyed raising Holstein calves and feeding them, and being Farmer of the Year along with his wife, for 1966 and 1999. He enjoyed his grandchildren, and was a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his children: Sherry Yancey, Jeffrey Yancey and wife, Cynthia, Gary Yancey and wife, Holly, all of Huntsville; three grandchildren, mother-in-law, Rosalee Cross; two brothers-in-law, Zola Cross and wife, Helen, and Maynard Cross and wife, Nella Faye; two sisters-in-law: Ugunda West and Melba Cross; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives. Funeral service was conducted September 14, at White Rock Baptist Church with Bro. Jim West and Bro. Ashley Ellis officiating. Music was provided by White Rock Baptist Church Choir. Graveside service was conducted September 15, at the James and Nella Pha Yancey Cemetery. Four Oaks Funeral Home of Huntsville had charge or arrangements.
