June, thank you so much for your response. I have all the information that you sent me. Thank you anyway. I would love to have a copy of your book. We have a very interesting family history, there are so many of us looking for answers, not just on the Yandells, but on other family members and family stories. I think it is sad when one of us share our information with others and another person takes the credit for it. I received some very precious pictures from a cousin and I gave her credit for them . It meant so much for me to find her and be able to receive something that I had always wanted, a look into the past, that I have always been searching for. Angela

Hi Angela, I do have some information that will be helpful to you. Lula's fater, Francis "Frant" Yandell married Mary Jane Yandell "Dink". They were 2nd cousins. Frant's mother, (Lula's grandmother,) Arenna "Irena" Vaughn Yandell married my great grandfather, William Monroe Yandell, after her husband, William Euan Yandell, was killed in the Civil War. Dink's parents were James Yandell and Mary Ann Beeson.

Lula's sister, Anna, married Soloman Patterson. Her grandson is Harold Patterson, and his wife has done a lot of work on this family. She has been a big help to me while I write my Yandell book. Her name is Mary Patterson, and you can contact her at mpatterson@ITnet.net
I hope to have my Yandell book finished in a couple of months. It is in story form from 1650 to 1950. If you would be interested in a copy, let me know so that I can have one printed for you.. June

Re: Yandell m. Sherrard in Mississippi

According to my research, Leila Sherrard was the daughter of Robert and Emma A (or V) (Yandell) Sherrard. Robert Sherrard and Emma Yandell were married 10 Nov 1869 in Canton, Madison County, Mississippi. Emma Yandell was the daughter of William Martin Yandell. Willliam Martin Yandell (b. 11 Oct 1808 TN d. 25 May 1858 Yazoo Co., MS) married twice. His first wife was Catherine Morton Searcy, by whom he had at least 7 children. Four of these children died in the 1840’s, as did Catherine (d. 12 Sep 1843). Sometime after 1843, William Martin Yandell married again. His second wife’s name was something like Elinora Ferguson. There are so many ways both her first and last name can be spelled! She is listed as Ellnora Yandell, age 25, b. TN in the 1850 census (Yazoo County, MS.). William and Ellnora had at least four children: Susan J. (b. 18 Dec 1845); Emma A or V (b. 21 Jan 1848); William Martin Jr. (b. 09 Mar 1850); Henry V (possibly Vaughan) (b. 10 Feb 1852). Ellnora died 20 Sep 1853 in Yazoo County, Mississippi. William Martin Yandell died less than five years later, leaving these four children orphans.

Emma and Robert Sherrard apparently moved to Texas shortly after their marriage. Their first child, John, was born about 1870 in Mississippi, but their second child, Leila, was born in Texas. Robert Sherrard died before December 1877, probably in Burnet County, Texas, as that is when and where Mrs. Emma Sherrard remarried Henry Stuart Foote on December 27, 1877.

By the time the 1880 census was taken, Emma is back in Canton, Madison County, Mississippi with her expanded family, (surname is shown as Forte rather than Foote):

Henry S.
Robert K. Yandell was the step-son of my uncle William Joanathan Putman. He mother was Daisy (Chase)Yandell. Robert was born sometime in 1898 +/- a few years. His mother may have come from Vermont to OK. She had other children with her in OK and they followed Her & Wm. J. to CA. They seemed to have settled in Signal Hill, CA. Any help would be great.

Hello Julie. I have been researching the yandells and grays too, I am carolyn Sharlene Gray, Sarah Berkley married my grandpa floyd berkley and he and emma rhea had mom jewel, . If you check the 1910 census ANNIE YANDEL and 1920 census For BETTIE YANDLES, do a cross check on the names which are really messed up in there, you will find the name annie yandell will bring you to the children you mentioned in the first part and the younger ones are in the other census under bettie yandles, then you have the 1930 with only volar and lela with bettie yandell. You have to check the parents birth places to see the connection and the kids names are all messed up in spelling. census takers didnt care if the name was spelled right or not, they just had to count heads. It took me 4 weeks to check and recheck them all. Bettie was in missouri when James died so maybe he is burried there. But you forgot one of bettie's kids, not talked about much , It is ROSIE YANDEL, She married James Rhea and had Elmetta Called EMMA RHEA, and Emma had my Mom. Sarah Married Floyd , But FLOYD IS My Mother's real father. Confusing isn't it?
By The way My name is Carolyn Sharlene Gray thomas, Great-Great_great Grand daughter to Bettie Yandells.

Still , want more info on Bettie taylor. I am her great-great -great- grand daughter and you can try to contact billiy yandell in fort gibson he is 73 now or one of the other yandells there in muskogee or fort gibson, In 1984 Bettie had Sarah , 1897 Lyla, 1889 Robert , 1893 Rosie ,then a few others after , Rosie married James Rhea and they had a child named elmetta who everyone called emma who had my mother named jewel that was taken away by the biological father and adopted , his name was floyd berkley who married Sarah Yandell sister to rosie, I don't remember much about granny sarah but Aunt alta is still alive and running around somewhere with faye, Alta is the daughter of Becky Yandell i think who is one of Bettie's and james kids too, Sheesh they had one every year almost,
Look in the census for Bettie yandles also known as annie yandles then back to bettie yandles after james died and then to Betty yandell when it was just her and the twins volar and Laulor who they called lear McKinzie , compared the dates of birth and birth places before I could figure it out, make comparison sheets and y0ou will see, Bettie or rather Elizabeth Ann taylor ran off with James yandell when she was 13 and they kept changing her first name till he died. It is funny on the annie yandles census when asked for her parent's birth place james put "she Don't Know" .
Well that is aboput all i know so far , except that her decendants are still living in fort gibson oklahoma. Alvin who we called uncle preacher is gone but his kids are still around. Could use documentation on them if possible. hard to read the census records, have them all printed out but they are blury. Also need information on James Rhea , All anyone knows is that he killed Rosie {yandell} in 1910 or 1911 after Emma was born and the police chased him to the river, He swam across it 6 times back and forth until they got him. Dont know what happened to him aftet that. Seems to be a sore subject with the family. Elmetta {Emma Rhea} was born in 1910 in Oklhoma.

Would your mother's cousin remember an Annie who lived in Oklahoma and in the late 1940s went to live with Fred Yandell from Holt County MO? Fred was my grandfather, and the story goes that some years after his wife died in 1942, he went to Oklahoma to visit relatives, and brought back Annie. I don't know if they ever married or not, but I remember her as Grandma Annie. Fred died in the late 1950s, and I don't know what happened to Annie.

After my grandmother died in 1942, my grandpa Fred Yandell went to Oklahoma to visit family and brought back a woman we knew as "Annie". They lived together until he died in 1958, then I don't know what happened to her.

It could be what I'm looking for but all I know is that my grandfather is Carl Hernry Yandell. His father is Joseph Andrew Yandell and his mother is Mary Elizabeth Butler. I know that Andrew was born in Waldron Scott on I think 01-30-1900 and died in Poteau Oklahoma on 05-08-1981.
