Karen,
I have a completely different line of ancestors that I research in Marion Co., Ill, but I see references to Yardley's there. I have not tracked them, so don't know where they came from. The Illinois state databases list James and John Yardley as well as John Yardley, Jr as being land buyers in the 1835-1859 time period in Mason Co., Ill. Joseph and Israel Yardley bought land in Marion Co., Ill. I don't know if any of these are related to my Yardley line.
I'm going to use a different 'reply' to list the names in the book in order to keep the reply shorter.
I'd love to have you DNA test one of your Yardley's to see if he matches my Yardley. Familytreedna is having their annual holiday discount on testing now through December.
Karen
I have a middle initial for James - A. He was born in Kentucky in 1809. Jane was born in North Carolina in 1805 and was married ( to a Solomon Norris ) in nearby Warren County Kentucky in 1821. John W. Yardley Jr. was born about 1817 in Kentucky. From Kentucky they moved to Sangamon County Illinois.
It was a long shot but we have to turn every stone don't we ? I appreciate you taking the time to look into this !
Karen

Karen,
I don't see any info in the book about John W. and Rebecca Yardley that would pertain to that time period in the early 1800's. There are plenty of John's and a Rebecca, but they were born much later than that.
There are a couple of Jane's listed and several James and Johns. Do you happen to know their middle names so I can narrow the search a little?
Karen

Karen,
I saw your post concerning the book "Pioneer Families of Sullivan County, Missouri with related families of St. Charles Co., MO and Monroe Co., KY" and was wondering if you would do a lookup for me concerning my Yardley family - John W. Yardley and wife Rebecca, daughter Jane, sons James and John Jr. I know they were in the Warren County area sometime around 1809 - 1821 and Monroe County is in the same area. I would appreciate any information you can share. Thank you for your time.
Karen Yardley

Lonnie,
I'm responding to one of your old posts, so hopefully by this time you have come across the book you were looking for. I have a copy of the book, but do not want to part with it. The name of it is Pioneer Families of Sullivan County, Missouri with related families of St. Charles Co., MO and Monroe Co., KY by Richard D. Sears. It was published by Miran Publishers(TX) in 1974.
I am descended from the same Yardleys as you and others on this post and am co-ordinator for the Yardley DNA project at Familytreedna.com.
Karen

Lonnie, I was doing some research on the Yardley's and came across your posting. Your Aunt Abby Yardley was my Grandmother and I know of the book you are interested in. My Uncle, Abby's youngest son, has the book my Grandmother had and my brother has the same book which was my fathers. My brother is close to Cedar Rapids. Your post is old so you may not see this posting. However, if you do then please let me know and I can put you in touch with either my Uncle or my brother.

Hi Syntitha,
My great-grandmother also used other spellings of her name. Why do you think you may be related besides the name? You did not give your surname (maiden)or the names of any ancestors that may link you to her. Are you or your ancestors from Sullivan County Missouri? If you are a descendant, what could be your relationship?
I am afraid only a first name does not give me much to go on. If you can provide some more clues I will look at my data.
Cherie

Hello, my great grandmother was Alice Ann Yardley, christened 1852 Shenstone Staffs m. RAG Harrison.
Her parents were John Yardley 1813-1867, gentleman of Chesterfield Lodge, Lichfield, Staffs and Alice Chappe 1821-1907, m. 1847 in Manchester Cathedral.
John Yardley's father was also called John Yardley.
After that it gets a bit sketchy from family scraps and written notes. One John Yardley (possibly the first one's father) was christened on 11 sep 1786 in Wednesbury.
We also have a miniature portrait of a John Yardley painted in 1805 (he looks 20-30). there is a note behind saying John Yardley married Sarah Yardley 1829, died 1846 aged 60 and John Yardley married Ann Yardley 1809, died 1816 aged 43. not sure which John is the one in the picture.
This could possibly be the first John's father and grandfather.
all a bit confusing I know! but if you think there could be any connection to your Yardleys then please do get in touch on chargaet@wanadoo.fr
thanks, Charlotte

Hi, I am not sure about Harry Yardley. All I know is my biological father's father and the Yardley family came from Oregon and resided in Idaho.

I am the great granddaughter of John & Elizabeth Morrison Yardley, the one I posted on the site.

Terri

In the 1930 census for Los Angeles, California, there is the family of Harry YARDLEY who was b. 1895 in England and immigrated in 1896. His wife was Betty R. of Texas and children Marty, George and Harry. The children were all born in different states, perhaps indicating Harry moved about with the oil company for which he was an "expert accountant". I'm not related to this family (that I'm aware) but they lived next door to my great grandfather and his second wife - Walter and Lucia Hamrick. I remember hearing the name YARDLEY as a child and wonder if there is someone connected to this family who might know more.

Since I posted the original query I've learned that Betty R. YARDLEY was Elizabeth (RULE) YARDLEY b. to Richard and Edith (ANDERSON) RULE. Next door (in 1930) was Elizabeth's sister, Lucia (RULE) HAMRICK and my great grandfather, Walter Dunn HAMRICK; living next door to them was the household of Lucia's and Elizabeth's mother, Edith RULE and her mother, Josephine ANDERSON. I remain hopeful that someone has more details of the lives of Lucia and Walter - my only interest in this search. Thank you to those who have made an effort to contribute.

Hello - I have recently learned that the maiden name of my Gtx3 Grandmother was ELIZABETH YARDLEY - she was married to a WILLIAM JENKINS someti ne in late 1820s/1830 - as a married couple they lived in Aston Birmingham Warwickshire but I have no idea where they lived before this. They state on the 1841 cs that they were born in the county (Warwickshire) and continue to say this - can't find any trace of them in the parish they had their children baptised (st Martins) but have found a marriage between a William Jenkins and Elizabeth Yardley in York (st Margaret's) in June 1831.

If you are missing an Elizabeth Yardley maybe this is her - or if you think you know this one, please reply! Cheers!

Hello,

My Hopkins family are very distantly connected to the Yardley family and one of them, Thomas Watkins Yardley, was buried at Wednesbury. Many Hopkins people carried the Yardley name as a middle name. May I ask if the Yardley family had any connections to the soap manufacturers of the same name? I have what is reputed to be a picture of a painting of TWY.

Is there a cost involved ?
As far as I know, I am not related to the Yardley's of Missouri ( unless it is farther back than I have been ), but I guess this is the next step !
Please let me know if you are interested in my line being a part of this project !
Thanks,
Karen Yardley

Hi Leslie,
I know it's been a long time, but I'm still at it. There's not been a lot of progress on the paper trail for a long time. I've decided to use the newest tool, DNA, to help.
We need male Yardley's to join the project. I've gotten DNA results from my line. Now we need other Yardley's for comparison.
I had one other Yardley who had already been tested contact me, but they did not match up with us at all, so they are looking at their paper trail again to see what happened.
I'm afraid I don't have your email address anymore. Here's mine: gencrazy@sbcglobal.net.
Karen

Karen,
You are welcome to join the Yardley DNA project. I'm interested in collecting DNA from any Yardley male, so in your case, you are correct-it would be from your father.
My project is through Familytreedna.com and I suggest the Y-dna 37 marker test which is $189 when ordered through the project. If you had a different company for DNA testing in mind, that's fine too. We could submit the results to a website for matching DNA and see if we connect. If so, we could compare our family trees and connect the dots. I believe Familytreedna is the largest testing company and they seem reliable. You can search their site for the surname Yardley and then go to the Yardley project webpage and order a kit from there.
Whereabouts are your Yardleys from? I'm always interested in hearing from other Yardleys.
Karen

If you ever wanted to have your dna tested to see how we all relate, now's the time to do it. Familytreedna.com is offering some great deals. For example: the 37 panel Ydna (for males) is just $119, normally $189. Add the male's mother's side onto that (the mtdna test) and the whole thing (Y 37 + mtdna) is only $189, normally $339. Other tests are discounted too. The sale is only through August 31st.
Any Yardley can order, whether in the U.S. or elsewhere in the world. Go to Familytreedna.com and look up the "Yardley" project to get the discount.
