My father was Frederick Paul Yax Jr born 1918 Buffalo, NY. His father Frederick Paul Yax born 1892 Pennsylvania. His father Paul Yax born 1853. His father Nicholas Yax. On familysearch.org the Yax name was Jax. Alsace Lorraine. Which was territory that changed from Germany to France. This no longer exists so at some point must have been taken over by either country. If you are related to any of these names, please contact me. mlp3845@roadrunner.com. Mary Lou Yax (Przepiora)

Yax-Maxwell wedding announcement

I am transcribing articles from our local newspaper archives (Scotia, Nebraska):

The Scotia Register
Volume XXXIII, Thursday, September 29, 1927, pg. 1, column 3
MAXWELL-YAX
On Wednesday morning, Sept. 28, a quiet, but pretty wedding took place in the Sacred Heart church at Greeley when Miss Ethel Maxwell became the bride of Mr. Leroy Yax. Rev. Father Feeney officiated.
The bride and her attendant, Miss Jesse Jess, were becomingly attired in blue suits with harmonizing accessories. The groom wore the conventional black.
Both of these young people are favorably known in this community. Mrs. Yax is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Maxwell. The groom is a nephew of the Halpins and makes his home with Will Halpins.
The many friends of this young couple extend to them the heartiest of congratulations.

Julie Middendorf
mjmiddendorf@nctc.net

Hello :) My name is Sara Warner and I'm Wayne Yax's Granddaughter. I have some more info on Michael Johannes Yax's family other than the one son you mentioned. The son of his and Catherine Herbinne's that i'm related to is Jean Baptiste Yax, who was married to Regina Christina Champagne.

Jean and Regina had a son named Lambert Yax, who married Nancy Ann Hathaway.

Lambert and Nancy had a son named William G. Yax, who was married to Mary La Verse.

William and Mary had a son named John Marcus Yax, who was married to Carrie Mae Harris.

John and Carrie had a son named John Marquis Yax (my great-grandfather) who was married to Iva Hattie Green (my great-grandmother)

John and Iva had a son named Wayne Jay Yax, who was married to Joyce Florence Pawley. They also had several other children, who I can find out the names and ages of from my Mother.

Wayne and Joyce had 5 children. Kathy Jo, Karen Lynn, Cheryl Ann, Laurie Mae (my Mother), and Phillip Wayne.

Laurie Mae Yax married Michael Rae Warner and had 3 children. Identical twins Sara Mae (me) and Shannon Marie, then Hollie Michelle.

If you need any other info I would be happy to give you any that I have available.

My name is Rachael Yax Muller b. 1963
My father is Lawrence Donald Yax
My Grandfather is Lawrence James Yax.
Maybe someone can help me sort something out that I am confused about. I have seen Johan Michael Jack's birthdate listed as 1709 but on the ship records from the ship Lydia that he came over on in 1740 it has his age as 24. That would mean he was born in 1716. Does anyone have any documentation that shows his true birth year?
Thank you.

I read your message board. My grandmother's (Harriet Kruse) mother was Emma Yax daughter of Frank and Margaret (Wetzel) Yax, who was born August 1883 in Buffalo, NY. She married Alonzo Masterton around 1881 in Rochester, NY. She had two brothers, Albert and and Charles (?) and a sister, Ida.

I have been doing extensive research on the family, collecting pictures, etc. It looks like we may be related and I would love to touch base with you to see what information you have gotten and share what I have found.

Hi Erin,

Make sure you go to Helen's site at

http://yax.tripod.com/yaxfamilygenealogy/ it is wonderful.

You can also go to your local library and see if they have the book called "Genealogy of the French Families of the Detroit River Region 1701-1936 volumes I and II" it is a wonderful book and you will find a lot about the Yax's in that book. They may be able to Interlibrary loan the book but if they do not have it but you will have to ask.

I hope that helps

Kathy

I am trying to research the Grosse Ile Reaume's - believe but not proven my husbands family descends through Alexander b:1819 son of Claude and Charlotte Reaume. Brother of Daniel and Fabian and Elizabeth - all found on the island (as well as Victory and Celia) in the 1870 census found on-line.

thanks Suzanne Reaume

Hi Pat,
I went to Grosse Ile last night. Went through the cemetery you speak of. Do you know who Gulia, beloved mother died 1902 belonged to? You probably know Elizabeth and William Bury and some of their children are buried in the next 'plot' of families next to Oliver.

According to the census of 1860 and 1870 Alexander lived on Grosse Ile. He was in Brownstown by 1880. According to the 1880 census he had a child Alex (called by middle name (?) in 1870) who was 7 in 1870 and 17 in 1880. AND the fact that this Alexander b:1819 didn't marry until 1842, I no longer believe this to be my line . . .(the Alexander who was the informant for Alexander b:1819 d:1898 was most likely the one who was 17 in 1880).

thanks for all of your assistance - neighbor - I live off Fort Road between Gibraltar and Woodruff.

Suzanne
Yes, just recently went to the Trenton Library. There equipment is down so I couldn't use the census but I have had other researchers look up 1860 and 1880. They are living with in one, two up to 5 houses from the Grosse Ile Reaume's. The plat map shows several houses on the Reaume property . . .I went to Wyandotte library again and found some interesting info - Ecorse Township 1884 Census - found Alexander and his wife Tharise LeBlanc and many children I never knew existed (listed under Reumes). All the children were born in Michigan. So they should be found in the 1870 census with two children. I have looked under every R in the 1870 census of the area - no luck. 1876 plat map also has an A. Reaume and a P. Reaume. P is for Patrick. Looking for my Alexander at Mt. Carmel - I again ran across Patrick and his family. They had property so close in 1876 and are buried in the same cemetery. I found his obit (Patrick) but no clues. IF they aren't siblings, they are cousins. I couldn't find any Reaume family with children Patrick b:1834 and Alexander b:1836. Alexander and Patrick were born in Canada.

The only reason I ruled out Alexander b:1819 out was the fact that he married Emily in 1842 (my Alexander b:1836) AND there was another child named Alexander(that I was unaware of until the 1880 census look-up). Now IF Alexander had another wife prior, the second wife may want a child by her also named Alexander . . .it's still possible, I guess.

I had someone look-up the 1907-08 directory for Ford Village. Tharese the wife was listed at 641 Biddle Ave N.

Now these people were also listed:
Albert, son
Andres ?? (not son)
Arthur, son
Ellsworth (not son)
Jessie (daughter)
Nellis (son)
Remie (son)

I was looking for siblings of Alexander, now I need to find out who, (and how old) Andres and Ellsworth were...

thanks for letting me bounce this around, I need help!

Hi again
thanks so much, I did find that Alexander and I THOUGHT I found where he belongs in the Reaume branch (his brothers were listed in the same town). . . not the same Alexander but still could be 'my' Alexander. I just requested a look-up at the Reaume forum for the 1871 census. It could be my Alexander but what troubles me is I just learned ALL the children of Alexander and Tharise were born in MI. (but why aren't they in the 1870 MI census???) I found about 5 more children from the 1884 Ecorse Township census found in Wyandotte Library. There was an Andres and Ellsworth listed in the 1907 city directory that lived in the 5 block radius of the other children of Reaumes that weren't in the 1884 census, either grandchildren or siblings of Alexander.

I'll be heading to the Trenton Library in search of the obit, I'll let you know what I find.

thanks again

Suzanne

Hi again,
Those children in the 1871 census in Amherstburg were children of Antoine, Antoine was the son of Charles Pascal, brother of Charles found in the 1860 census on Grosse Ile. Antoine and Alexander were both blacksmiths- I wonder if Charles was as well (found in the 1860 census on Grosse Ile)

I found at Wyandotte the 1884 census for Ecorse Township. My Alexander was found under Reumes. He came to MI at age 22. So, he was here in about 1858. Meaning he should be here in the 1860 census and the 1870 census. I found in the 1870 census, Alexander Reonie, Misses, Ellen and Nellis. Since I found the 1884 census and learned Nellis wasn't the first born, this fits (Wyandotte, Ward 1).

In the 1860 census Norvia and Theresa Reaume were found on Grosse Ile living next to Victor (or a house away). I need to find out their ages to see if it could be them(?)

I believe he belongs to a different branch of Reaumes (I'll figure it out and let you know which).

Unless of course the family didn't remove until after 1881. (I FORGOT I have Alexanders Obit and it states he was one of the original pioneers of Ecorse Township (or something like that) . . .this is going to drive me bonkers!

SR

Frank Yax and Mary Ann Laforge were my great grandparents. One of their children was Jessie May Yax (my grandmother) b. 22 July 1886. Joseph Yax was her brother. He was born 1 april 1863 in mi.
When his mother died his residence(1915) was Buffalo, N.Y. He was found in the 1880 he was living at home as a farm laborer. Later he became a commercial fisherman. I have more info about this family, but not on his third family. My email address is:ghillard@
coslink.com
