David Yeats of Florida

David Yeats was Secretary of the Province of Florida under Patrick Tonyn when Florida was owned by the British, and before it became Spanish (around the mid 1700's). He married a Jane Fitzhugh (last name unknown). Does anyone have these people in their tree?

You don't need to create a .gedcom file.

If you were thinking of sending it to me - I have several .pdf capabilities on my system.

If that was your intent, you have my e-address and may send it directly there. Sending it as an attachment would be the simplest approach.

Aileen

NO, I don't have those names. I suppose its possible that my William Yeats, born in 1792 in Old Deer, could have been a cousin of your John, born in 1795. His siblings were Elspet (1790), John (1794), Margaret (1797), Mary (1799) and George (1801). None of our Yeats relatives came to Canada that I know of, though my great grandmother Charlotte's brother, William Lawrence, did emigrate to the USA and his family settled mostly in Montana, with some in Nebraska and a few elsewhere. We did not know that until a year ago, and it is their family's claim to be related to Wm. B. that revived my interest in that of ours. I have received only one communication from them, from a member who does genealogy, but she did not document it and I don't think they know. I have recently mailed another round of inquires to 14 people there I believe to be descendents.

Despite repeated attempts, we have not been able to find out much more about the William Yeats family. His parents seem to have been John Yeats and Agnes Mitchel, and his grandfather William Yeats (b. 6 Mar 1737, ABD). His great grandparents were probably Alex Yeats and Christian Watt.

I have a .pdf file of my Yeats connection, but cannot find a way to create a .ged one without wading through thousands of names in my database.

Your information has shown the first possible connection.

My own 2x Great Grandparents were Peter Yeats born 1807 Old Machar and Margaret Wiseman born 1805 Old Machar. They married in Old Machar in 1842, moved to Ontario Canada, where their children were born. Their son William Ball Yeats is my Great Grandfather.

My 3x Great grandparents and the parents of Peter Yeats were John Yeats and Elspet(Elizabeth)Martin. They were probably born sometime between 1775 & 1784, in Scotland.
Am not yet certain whether they were born in Old Machar or Old Deer. This is the the present area of my researching.

Do any of these names appear in your family records?

My great grandmother was Charlotte F. Yeats, born 1854 in Fraserbourg, Scotland. Her parents were George Yeats (b. 1828, Old Deer, ABD, d. 26 April 1878, Waterton (Newhills)and Margaret Park. They married at Old Deer 15 Aug 1850. Her father was a slater, son of William Yeats (b. 11 Mar 1792, Old Deer; and Jannet Herd (b. 27 Feb 1823, Old Deer). William was a joiner, son of John Yeats and Agnes Mitchell.
Hello and welcome to the Yeats Message Board.

Working backwards from your questions:

As for the Books: Some excellent books have been published on the life and times of the man I was raised to know as my Grandfather's first cousin. These books are most certainly available through local libraries or where possible, on inter-library loan.

As far as extensive biographical information is concerned, there are many Yeats Family Trees available for viewing on the Internet. Once the actual Family line is established you will discover just how much data is readily available.
It's locating the one positive link which sometimes proves time consuming.

Now:
Where to begin? You did that by simply posting your message.

Where to go from here? Tell us about your Grandmother and the other members of the family. Names, dates, where their parents came from, etc. Do include the names of any siblings and their dates.

Your information gives us the opportunity to check for any possible existing relationship to one of our Family lines.

If you are hesitant about posting the information publicly, you are welcome to send it to the administrator's address below.

Aileen.

aileen.sloane@sympatico.ca

My great grandmother was a yeats. Both my grandfather and her brother claimed they were related (cousins in the case of the latter) but we cannot find any connection. How can we trace this? Is the book you mentioned in libraries, and does it have extensive biographical material that might tell us one way or the other?

Aileen,
I will try to keep it ancestry.com related. The only problem is that I have very little information pertaining to my Yates/Yeats/Yeattes/Yeates ancestry. Only a photo and a few memories.
Tommy Yates was born in or around 1937. No other ancestry information was provided of me. Other than he worked in Electronic Sales at the time of my birth and later received a degree in Engineering.
No information rendered as far as his father. But his mother may have been a nurse, like myself. The adoption agency called her a Children's Governess and or midwife.
There has been no update ancestry and or medical history information provided of me.
They were apparently from Ireland and of Catholic decent.
By the way, I have tried the adoption boards since the emancipation of ancestry.com to no avail. I have been on the internet searching as well since its birth. I belong to several online adoption groups. A search angel was kind enough to help me find my biological mother and I have reunited with my Birth Aunt happily since 2004. I have 3/4's of my puzzle complete. Yet, I am missing a very large 1/4.
I have yet to find my biological father. I wish not to disrupt his life. I would even take the information rendered to me in an anonymous venue. Just to be able to put it to rest. Yet find myself wishing to know my ancestry, if possible.
I value all 4.
If you would be so kind to help me, even fill in some of the blanks-- it would be greatly appreciated.
Then I will know which Yates/Yeats/Yeattes/etc. ancestry genetic link, I belong to. I have done a great deal of research on the Yates/Yeats line. Yet, I am unable to link myself to any direct link.
I do hope you understand. I am well known within the adoption triad community and feel I have exhausted that avenue of approach. Therefore, I have reached out to the Yeats/Yates ancestry community as I have with my Meehan side in the past. My Meehan ancestors and family have embraced me as if I have been a lost babe in the woods. It is my hope to find as such or even be pardoned by my Yates/Yeats genetic family as well with recognition and or be granted my genetic geneology.
I still believe in miracles. Even after 29 years of searching for them.
I do try to keep my ancestry posts brief. Yet, anyone that knows me realizes that this is quite a feat.
Is this a Yates trait, I wonder?
Jules
www.myspace.com/meehanschild
Jules, Just to let you know ....
Your private message did arrive safely.
Will get back to you later today. Am on my way to church right now.

I do have a few questions but want to get my thoughts in order first.

One thing ... it would be most helpful if you stick to the Rootsweb instructions of keeping all messages short, sweet, and to the point. It is very difficult sometimes, to follow a lengthy message particularly when they contain thoughts of a varying nature.

You see, this Board is strictly for Genealogy research and so, we will look at your messages in that light. That is what prompted me to suggest you also contact the Adoptees' Boards. They know more about the kind of searching which needs to be done in that respect. Tommy himself, as a lost ancestor, I can certainly try to help with.

Must dash we have a choir practice ahead of Mass and I cannot be late for that.

Aileen

Oh, and by the way--
Due to my long arduous search process, I am pretty open about it. Probably, because I have had to be in order to find him! I wish not to disrupt his life or his families. Even though in my heart I know that I have half brothers and sisters out there that may want to know about me as well? It is hard to explain. It is as if a part of my life has been missing for many years. Because they haven't been in it. Don't get me wrong, I have a wonderful adoptive family. A sibling. And many a extended family member.
But with just one look at my half brother and sister from my biological mother, I knew who and what I was missing back in 2004. I missed them as weird as that may sound. And I as well miss my half siblings from Tommy. Whether they want to be apart of my life or not. My spritual friend Joan calls it a soul connection. I call it a sibling connection. Something I have not been able to put my finger on, but know it has been with me my entire life.
I wonder if John Edwards would pick up on all my ancestors gathered around me, if I where to go to his reading's? I bet with my now known grandfather William J Meehan, he wouldn't have a choice but to zero in on me! hehe
He was indeed a very cool guy! hehe
Anyway, I could go on and on for hours about my search and find process! It has been a revelation, thus far. Oh, by the way- Thank you for the phonetic possibly spellings! Your an angel!
Jules

jmskd29,
Thank you for your kind reply. I have tried to email you direct. I do hope it reaches you.
As far as my Tommy, there is no paper trail as far as how he spelt his actual name. Yet, many of my biological mother's friends and family state that he is my father. I have searched for him for about 28 years now. He may not even know about me.
My natural mother is deceased.
I have a website that may help with the facts, if you are interested and ancestry allows my post? It is at myspace.
And my direct page is /meehanschild. Hope this helps. There is even a black and white pic of him at the site.
Tommy worked at Roosevelt Racetrack which is now closed. I have tried to researched his employment at the track, to no avail. Roosevelt has a webpage as well. And the webmaster and or contacts did not have direct access to old records of employment at the time. I may just try again! Thanks for the uplift in my search process! I needed it!
As far as what he did at the time is unknown to me other than what I have been told by the adoption agency. He apparently worked in Electronic Sales in 1961-62. He dated my mother for about 1 1/2 years prior to my birth.
He left NY prior to my birth in or around Feb-May 1962.
My biological mother apparently tried to inform him of her pregnancy. I have been told she traveled cross country with friends from NY to CA to try to find him. Once she found him, he was with someone else at the time. We do not know if she informed him or not of her pregnancy. She may have been too embarassed to do so. Or she may have told him and he did not want me and sent her away?
She told no one that I am in touch with the real story. Therefore, I have been on a mission to make sure. But after so many years, my search process has been weighing on my heart.
I may never know. But I keep trying to ensure that he too has not or will not die worrying about me as she did.
Apparently, Anna Marie had made several attempts with the adoption agency to update them on her whereabouts and her condition. Especially, before he death of breast cancer. She wanted to warn me. She wanted to know me. As I did her. It is a very sad story.
But it is a happy story, as well! I have reunited with her sister. And in one conversation with my beautiful Aunt Elizabeth, she stated, "I wish Anna Marie would have come to me about you my dear, because I would have raised you as my own". That woman just makes my heart sing! She is my connection to my biological roots. My ancestry. And she is my connection to a wonderful future with her in it.
I am so thankful to angels like yourself who understand an adoptee's need to know there first families. It does not replace the family that raise us and loved us all of our lives. But it gives us the knowledge and possibilities of love and connection in our future. Atleast for this adoptee, anyway.
As far as Tommy, I would just like to know that he is aware of me. I would like to know my ancestry if possible. I value all four of mine. Especially, the unknown one.
It would be a wonderful dream to be a decendent of W.B Yeats. It may explain a few things........
Jules
Have you had any luck since you first posted?
If not, In order to locate Lilla's Maiden name you will have to work backwards.

Do you know where they are buried? If so, contact the Cemetery office. Maiden Name should be on their burial records. Also the name of the funeral director should be there. Possibly their Parish church as well. All are excellent sources of basic information.

Their home address at time of death might be there. It depends on the format used at the time

If so, contacting the municipal office is another pathway. That can also take you to Electoral Rolls and Census data
- one of which just might contain her maiden name.

In addition, have you checked the "familysearch.org" site?
This is an excellent resource. One must recognize that it is only a resource. You would still need to obtain official documents in order to have proof positive.

Let me first say I don't see a direct connection to W.B. at this time. However the possibility remains.

Don't be concerned about the spelling since there are so many variations. Basically my own Yeats group has a variety of spellings. YEATS, YATES, YEATES, Yatz, YATCH etc. Most of the variations happened over the time gone by when not too many people were well schooled and spelling was not of prime importance. They relied on others to do it for them. Then too, there were Census enumerators who spelt phonetically and that just reinforced the varieties we see today.

If Tommy worked at the Race Track did you ever consider writing them? One of the old timers might be able to set you on the path to someone in the Track world.

Engineering degree? in Electronics or something else? Do you know when or where he worked in the trade? Did he seem to have moved about quite a bit or was he fairly well set in one place?

Please click on this Board's Information link (right side of screen) then on Administrator's e-mail. That way you can contact me privately.

Maggie Yeats emigrated to Canada, where she mariied Benjamin Tolton in Wellington County, Ontario.
Submitted by her grandson, Cameron Tolton, February, 2006.

Hi Aileen, Thanks for the reply. I hope you are soon better. I knew Elizabeth was married to Archibald McGown as it was on their daughter's (Jean) death record (GROS website). However, I didn't have the date of their marriage. I have no further info re Elizabeth at present but I believe Archibald's parents may ahve been James McGown and Marion Dun. Marion's father was Archbald Dun. I have not yet confirmed this so it may be wrong, but I woudl be very interested if anyone can confirm this or give me any more info on Elizabeth.

I look forward to hearing from you soon

Gail

Update.
I do know that my biological father Tommy Yates' Yeats mother was a nurse. Possibly a mid-wife and or noted as being a Children's Governess. I have no informaiton as to what my grandfather did for a living.
Tommy was in Electrical Sales at the time of my birth. He also was a trotter for the Roosevelt Racetrack in Westbury, Long Island, NY. He was friendly with my Uncle Willy and that is how he met my mother Anna Marie Meehan.
Was my biological grandmother a nurse like me? Wouldn't that be astonishing?
I wish not to disrupt anyone's life in my need to know. But I would like to know either way. I value all 4 of my heritages.

On another note, basically for correction. I have been unable to verify if my father's name was Yeats or Yates. I have done research and have found no Catholic Yates/Yeats at this time. Therefore, the information that I have recieved may not be correct. He may be Irish and of Protestant faith? What I do know is that his mother was a nurse. He worked as an engineer, possibly electrical. I would like to acquire information related to if there is a possible connection to the W.B. Yeats family for heritage purposes. Any help would be appreciated. I know its a stretch....

Where any of these decendents married to a nurse? I have been told that my grandmother was a nurse on my Yeats/Yates side of the family. My father's name was Tommy Yates, born 1937. His mother was a nurse. Maybe a midwife. They called her as well a Children's Governess. I have no information as to what my grandfather did. Yet I do know my father was in Electrical Sales and received a degree in Engineering.
I would like to find my heritage. I have been told that my father was Catholic and Irish. Yet, I have not been able to verify this information. He may have been Irish. Was he in the W.B. Yeats family line? There is a strong connection to Sligo, Ireland within my maternal side Meehan. Any help would be appreciated.
Jules

Hello AnneMarie,

Welcome to the Yeats Board!

I don't know If Maxine will see your message right away. Since our families are related, I am posting from our mutual information, on her behalf. .

Your Grand-mother is correct. Elizabeth Middleton married William Pollexfen. Their daughter, Susan Mary Pollexfen, married John Butler Yeats in 1863.
Their eldest child was William Butler Yeats, Poet Laureate.

As Maxine stated in her earlier messages, he was first cousin (? times removed) to both her husband's family and my Great-Grandfather. Hope this helps.

Please return again. We do enjoy the opportunity to locate and get to know our kin around the world!

Aileen

Grandparents of Bert Yeats - Mark Fitzpatrick and Bridget Moran

My search now centers on the following generational "temporary" brick wall.

My 2x Grt. Grand-parents,
MARK FITZPATRICK and BRIDGET MORAN (both b.abt 1800-1816), lived, I believe, relatively close by their daughter & her family in Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada, in the vicinity of Orillia.

Their Grandson, and our Grandfather, James MORAN Yeats, better known as "Bert", was born to Margaret Ann Fitzpatrick and William Ball Yeats of Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada - in the vicinity of Orillia, August 1875.

His parents, Margaret Ann Fitzpatrick and William Ball Yeats , were married in 1868 at St.Patrick's Cathedral, Toronto, Ontario.

Their witnesses were: John COE and Ellen FITZPATRICK, both residents of Toronto.

In particular, knowing nothing whatsoever about Bridget Moran, I am anxious to uncover even the tiniest bit of information about her generation of the family.

Could Bridget Moran be the same Bridget I see in Simcoe Historical data and on Google, who was a well-known author of her time?

Also, I wonder if anyone recognizing our Grt. Grand-mother Margaret's name might have any knowledge of her Fitzpatrick siblings?

Was Ellen her sister, aunt or cousin? Hopefully, time will tell.

I would appreciate any replies being posted directly to this Board. They will reach me as quickly as a normal e-mail.

My thanks!

Aileen

Follow Up Re: Elizabeth Yeats in Scotland

Hello Gail,

Just wanted to let you know I am finally home from hospital.
Unfortunately, my computer is experiencing major problems at the moment and no longer behaves normally. This has resulted in a postponement of all searching etc. as OS seems to be getting lost and filing system is nil. Presently awaiting a new machine, all else must wait.

However, I do have some questions for you, which you may reply to either on this board, or by writing me directly.

Did you by any chance, check out that Family search web site I sent you in March? If so, did you find your way through to check out that marriage register for other family members who might have been listed on it?

What other searching have you done? Was this message regarding Elizabeth your first attempt at a search?

Initially, I am presuming you already know where she and Archibald lived, raised a family and died?

The names of their children, approximate ages, etc. How about any of their spouses' names etc?

You have Jean's certificate. Do you have any others? For example: Birth, marriage, death, burial certificates;
Naturalization papers; emigration information; Names of Churches they attended and their location/denomination;

ANYTHING at all which may contain hints as to ancestral locations etc.

My own Yeats ancestors were from both Ireland and Scotland.
When things were so hard for the Irish, while many did come to North America, many also went to Scotland, England and Australia. Perhaps some of your ancestors were among one of those other groups. Keep an open mind!

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Aileen
Re: Mary Ada Yeats

Since you know her place of death the first step would be to obtain a copy of the death certificate.
If you know where they were married,a letter to the Church should provide information on both sets of parents.

It is usually easier to begin with what you know or can easily locate. for example:

Where did they live during their married years? Where did they go to Church,if they did. Where were they married? Where did she go to school? Her ethnic background? Where did your Mother go to school? Where was she married? Was it in the same town where she was born and grew up? Any information on Aunts, Uncles? ANY Birth/Marriage/Death certificates/Obituaries/Family Bible, OLD Letters?

From these, you begin to gather names, dates, places. Then you work backwards into your Grand-mother's generation.

A quick search today at the LDS <familysearch.org> site turned up nothing under the names you posted, and very little for Oklahoma. You might go to the site, look over the information for the names which do surface, see if any look familiar.

Join a Yeats Mailing List. They are there to give you a central location to post your question. The more places you do this, the broader your scope.

You have this Message Board, and over time, you may find others searching the same family line. As well, though, a mailing List is another powerful tool when researching. One set up in the town where she died, or its County Seat, would be helpful. Even one set up for the Town where your parents grew up,post your query there also.

If you have already begun the above steps, do let us know what you discover in order that we may guide you to the next steps.

Please Keep in touch. Best wishes.
Aileen.

Although I have a fairly large W.B.Yeats Family Tree, Julia's name is not there. W.B. was my Grand-father's first cousin.

Is there anything else you may remember about your Mother's ancestry which could help us zero in on Julia's family? Any other names, places, time frames etc?

Aileen
