There certainly are alot of Steinhorsts in this area. They came mostly from Besswitz, Germany. Sorry, I do not see a connection to your family.

In reading all these posts about Steinhorsts I am seeing that Robert Yech or Yeck is the person to go to. Almost all of the Steinhorst I run across seem to be in the Sauk area of Wisconsin. My g-grandfather Carl Steinhorst immigrated to Lake Mills WI in 1868. My father told me that they had a large extended family and yet I am having a very hard time tracking any of them down. There are a lot of records at the St. John Lutheran Ch in Newville but still very hard to figure out who is related to who. In reading over some notes I made a few years ago when I was talking to my dad about his childhood, he mentions heading up to Green Bay to visit Uncle Fred and Aunt Idy. Have you run across these Steinhorsts or do you see any connections to the Steinhorsts in the Sauk area with those who settled in the Lake Mills/Waterloo area.
Marcy Skala

We just replyed to your message for Justine Verch and now realize that you are seeking information on Steinhorst. Yes, we have much information on that family and would be happy to share with you. Please let us know how you can be contacted. Bob's Grandmother Ernestine was a Steinhorst. She lived in Ableman along with many of her relatives at the start of WW1. Bob Yeck

Their childrens' births are listed in the old St. Mary's Catholic Church archives (sometimes her name is spelled Feck or Teck), but I can find no supporting relatives.
Bea Rohde: August Henry Jech was my Great Grandfather, (I have 1818 rather than 1819), August G. Yech, tombstone name,Also used Joech and,Jech. My Father August F. Yeck adopted the Yeck spelling. To the best of my knowledge Karl, Albert, Albertina Bittrich, and Augusta Louise Pirsch were brothers and sisters of August G. Ernestine Steinhorst and the Pirsch's were next to each other on the ships passengers list Apr. 2, 1882. Weinke was my Father's stepfather. We visited the Rock Springs Cemetary last month.I have sent the genealogy of the H. Steinhorst family to Hans Hansen and would be happy to do likewise for you. Keep in touch.
Hi Bob,

It's so nice to get information. The brick walls were getting very disheartening. My husband Don and I would love to share anything. In fact, if you go to our web site vonrohde.com you can copy off a picture of Albertina Yeck and Caroline Steinhorst. It's time consuming, but we are trying to get helpful photos out there. Just go to the genealogy button and then, either click on a book for the first letter of last name or scroll down the page, and click on the name. You should go straight to the photos for that name. I think the comments section is up and running now. We are very much novices. Enjoy!! Please keep in touch. Where do you live? Our snail mail is Don Bea Rohde, 1426 Cherry Drive, Batavia, IL 60510. Let us know what kind of info you would care to have. We'd be happy to share. What is your email address? Couldn't find it in FamilyHistory. Thanks for your timely answer. This is soooo exciting. Thanks again. Bea Rohde.

Hi, I think we might have link here. We have an August Yech, born September 23, 1819 and died February 25, 1898. He had a daughter Albertina and a son Karl. There may have been more, but that is all we have.August is buried next to an Albert in the Rock Springs Cemetery in Wisconsin. And there is another August Yech born Cec. 10, 1854 and died Sept. 29 1916. He married an Ernestine Steinhorst. There are 3 very young sons buried near him. The boys all appear to have died within days of each other. It gets quite twisted sometimes. Ernestine remarried a Weinke, and so it goes on. Let me know if this helps. Thamks for your time.
Hi!
I don't know if this will help, maybe not. We've been having a spelling problem too. We have a Yech in our family (probably German), but we also find spellings of Yoech. You could try the German Counselate in the nearest large city. They do have genealogists who are willing to work with people. You can also try ship's passenger lists, if you have some dates to use. Hope you have better luck than we have had. Let me know how you do. Good Luck! BEA
