I have a birth certificate for William Dawson Yelf born Dec. 8
1877. 11 Evershot Road to William Thomas Yelf and Annie Charlotte Yelf formerly Brookes, district Islington East in the county of Middlesex (England ? ) I am trying to trace my roots to IOW.
I am told that Thomas Yelf founded a printing firm in 1817 on IOW known as Book Binders at one point under Queen Victoria. Held a royal warrant, meaning he could show the royal crest and could put around it "To Her Majesty the Queen Printers" on his issues. I also am told that William Dawson Yelf went to sea as a Cabin Boy at the the age of 12. At age 17 his ship sank causing his hair to turn pure white overnight.
He died in London Ontario Canada in 1959. He had a brother
named Charles who also died (murdered) in London Ontario in 1948. I would very much like to make a connection. It bothers me that I have not been able to find more info. out to connect to IOW. I have seen the many postings under the Yelf name but I don't know if they connect. Rhonda.
