Re: are we related to native indian

There may be incidents of Yelton's marrying Cherokee, but so far I have not found any documentation to support that.

We think the surname originated in the UK, possibly in Scotland. But more research needs to be done to prove that too.

If I can help with your research, please leave another message asking for specific information. What time period are you interested and what area of the U.S. were your Yelton's from?

You can also visit the Yelton Family Website at:
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~yelton/index.htm

Ahhh how wonderful to have a name to go with your face. Thank you.

Your Uncle Lee was my great grandfather. I didn't get to know him too well before he passed due to inner squabbling between "the grown ups". But I did get to know his wife, Mabel Yelton. And she made a point of arranging for me to meet Uncle Chick Yelton, who impressed me very much.

i am joshua bailey the great grandson of nellie bly and i was wondering if anyone could help me out on a few things. my whole life i have been told that nellie was a full blood indian. my grandmother loris bowling has always told me that her mother was an indian. no one seems to know how this is possible. i can tell by my grandmothers appearence that she is of indian decent but her mother seemed to keep a tight lip on the subject. my mother has told me that what little sh can remember of her grandmother was that her and her sister mary helan looked diferrent than the yest of the children. all this being said she says my nellie would be upset when someone would call her a sqaw exept for my great grandfather(marcus delafayette fannin. so i'm inclined to believe that she was an indian and i was wondering if anyone knew of the story behind my great grandmother.

My grandmother was Bernice Yelton, daughter of Latham Yelton. RootsWeb lists her husband as Edward Breyer. This information is incorrect. She was married to Edward BRAYMER.

Also, only her oldest son, Velden, is listed. She had four children: Velden, Eugenia (Louise), James, and Richard.

You're the second or third cousin I'vemet in the past few weeks. I'll ask my husband if I could go up there sometime & take some pictures of the gravesites. He's a pilot and is stationed in Indy right now. Have you done much digging around on the family tree? Maybe we could share info & compare notes.
My great grandfather John Basil Yelton married Lucinda Avaline Lowry. John's father was James Perry Yelton who married Nancy Eliza Thomas. I believe that Samuel was Nancy Eliza's brother. Without getting into another program, I'm no sure exactly where Amelia Yelton fits in. I will look into it. I have conflicting information on the parents of Samuel and Nancy Eliza. One source says they were Basil Thomas and Nancy Carter. Other sources have them as Samuel Thomas and Hannah Pittman. What do you have? Please email me directly atavalinejet@aol.com Thanks, Lydia

Hi Doris,
There was a Daniel Boone YELTON who was married to Winifred HONEY. Their daughter, Amanda F. YELTON born about 1832 in Campbell Co., KY married Daniel Boone BRYAN who was born on 15 March 1827 in Campbell Co., KY. Amanda and D.B. BRYAN were married on 20 November 1852 in Campbell Co., KY and they had eight (8) children. Amanda's brother John H. YELTON married D.B. BRYAN's sister Mary Margaret BRYAN in 1850. They had two (2) children.

With both a Daniel Boone YELTON and a Daniel Boone BRYAN - it's very easy to get confused! Click on this:
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~yelton/p96.htm#i4772 to see more information about Daniel Boone BRYAN.
Hi Cindy and Kacey,
That was great Hinson information, thanks for posting the URL Cindy.
Kacey, you also might want to visit the Yelton Family website at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~yelton/ . There may be information on some of the other surnames you are researching there.
James and Isabel HINSON YELTON are my 5th g-grandparents too, through their son James.
Happy researching!
Iris
