Henry's middle name was that of the minister of the Forks Church in Armstrong County. Henry's mother is Catherine Klingensmith. In 1860 Henry's brother Samuel b. 1850 and sister Christina b. 1848 are living with their grandparents John and Catherine Klingensmith in Tarentum, Allegheny County, PA. Samuel's father was Peter Yingst b 1762 in Germany. Came to America in 1766 aboard the ship Chance. He served in the Rev. War as did his father Heinrich Juengst the immigrant. The family has been traced back to 1400 in Germany by a German researcher. Peter has lived in Lancaster, Dauphin, Cumerland, Allegheny and Armstrong counties. He was a shoemaker. I have retrieved Peter's Rev. War pension application from Armstrong County. It is too long to enter here. Please contact me for the five page document. PS the Samuel Yingst you found in 1830 is NOT Henry's father. He is listed in 1830 numerically with his father in Armstrong County.

Uncle Dewey from my understanding decided to change the spelling in his last name to Yingst. all the rest of his brothers and sisters spell their name Yeingst. His formal name was Chester but preferred to be called Dewey. My dad was called 'Bunk'. Lester was his older brother. I am Linda Yeingst---- George Jr set up the site so his name is listed above he is the grandson of Uncle Sam

Hi Larry
Henry E Yingst is my great grandfather, married Mary E Hirst in 1872.Henry died on August 4, 1934,in Toronto, of a heart attack. Mary E Hirst was born Dec 15, 1854,in Union Co. Kentucky, to George Hirst and Tamer (Colclough) Hirst. Mary died in Steubenville,OH, on Feb 12, 1926, of ruptured gallbladder and peritonitis. Both Henry E & Mary E are buried in Knoxville United Presbyterian Church Cemetery, in Jefferson County, Know Township, OH. They lived at 516 Loretta Ave, Toronto for many years, until their deaths. They had 5 children: Margaret, Iona, Reginald (my grandfather), Bessie and Nora.
Henry E was a civil war veteran. There are many newspaper articles and mentions in several books about his being a veteran of the Civil War and the other men in his unit.
Do you have any information about Christina Klingesmith? She is Henry E's mother. I've found a good bit of info about her, but some parts are really sketchy. Her husband, Samuel, died in 1850, leaving her with 6 children under 10. I'm having a hard time locating the children after that, until they are adults. The info is vague about Samuel also. I can't find anything on him from 1795 (born in Bagdad,PA) until 1830 living in Annville Twp,PA.
I hope this helps you. Let me know if you need any other info. My email address is jearx7@yahoo.com. Janet Allen

I recently found a newspaper article from King City Tri-County on January 17, 1947 concerning Mrs. Sophrina (Yingst) Roberson on her 93rd birthday. She states that she remembers her father traveling to California with a brother-in-law [no name given] and a brother during the gold rush. The brother-in-law died shortly after their arrival from cholera and his brother died a short time later of smallpox. David gave up and returned to Missouri. The name of the brother was not mentioned in this article, however. The article also mentioned that the David Yingst family moved to St. Joseph for protection during the Civil War because of Union bushwhackers who continually raided their farm and stole from them. Thought this might fill in some of the bare spots on this family. Yvonne in K.C. MO.

Jean,
Through correspondence with desc. of Allen M. Baker & Elizabeth's son William, found that Elizabeth's maiden name was Roberts. She married John Yingst abt. 1845 in Andrew Co., MO resulting in the 3 daughters found with them in 1850 - however, John may not have physically been there on that census as John, David and Christian H. Yingst and brother in law Joseph Searles are also counted in El Dorado Co., CA 1850 census dated December 1850 - AHA!
A bio taken from Lawrence Co., MO Hist. and posted on Worldconnect for Christian H. Yengst (John's bro) says he went to Oregon on Wagon Train at age 16 with brothers and cousins and then returned to MO.
A John Yingst married in 1855 in Andrew Co. to a Clara Smith!!
So - did Elizabeth figure John was gone for good and here she is with 3 small children to raise? December of 1851 she is marrying to Allen Baker. . .hmmm.
Checking further.
Pam Smith
Elizabeth Yingst was the daughter of David and Catherine (Rainey) Yingst of Andrew Co. MO. My husband is a decendant of David through their daughter Sophrina (Phorinia, etc. depending on which census record you see) who md. Daniel Conway Roberson and resided in Gentry County MO. through their married life.

I am so sorry, I responded to your note before looking at my records. Because of the date of Elizabeth's marriage she was probably the sister of John Yingst who was found in Andrew County on the 1840 and 1850 censuses. John Yingst of Andrew County, left a will dated 13 March 1857, filed for probate on 6 April 1857, naming wife, Elizabeth, daughters: Ellen Jane (Jare) Banks and to her heirs; Elizabeth Jessee, grandchildren: Elizabeth Matilda Surels; Yingst children mentioned are: Isaac, Hannah, Mary Ann, Susannah, Emeline Martha Amanda, David, Christian Henry, a Henry Yingst was also listed but was crossed out; Wife Elizabeth named executor; witnesses: Samuel Gibson and Larkin Kirtley; Codicil, 18 March 1857 names heirs of John Surls by daughter Sary Surls. Your Elizabeth was not named, and I believe it is probable that she was a sister to this John. My Mother lives in Savannah and it is my desire to get up to see her and do some research at the Andrew County Museum which houses these old records. Let me know what you are looking for and I will seek to locate for you.

Re: William David Yingst

Your William David is probably the grandson of David and Catherine Rainey Yingst of Andrew County Missouri who married there on December 10, 1846 (recorded in Marriage Book A p. 66). On the 1850 U.S. Federal Census of Andrew County, MO., Rochester Twp., District #12, dwelling #930, Katherine Yinks, and her daughters, Mary age 3 and Nancy age 8/12 is living with her parents, Benjamin and Ann Rainey. David is living in his parent's household in the same census, township and district, dwelling #1085. Since several other children were born to them, including sons David (b. 1860) and Charles (b. ca. 1870) they must have reconciled whatever difficulties they had. Your ancestor William David would be the son of either of the two sons of David and Katherine/Catherine Rainey Yingst. Hope this helps.
My great great grandparents are John and Mary Yingst. Recently, I was told by a distant relative that Mary's maiden name was Zimmerman, but I have not yet confirmed it. The inconsistancy is that I always believed, without proof, that they were born in Germany. This same distant cousin claims that they were born somewhere in Penn. Please reply with any childrens' names or something to confirm a link. If your John and Mary is the same as mine, you could provide some important information. If they are the same, I would be glad to share what I know, although I am having similar problems.

I was messing around with this genealogy site and found your posting.
I am the baby of your Aunt Ethel...it was great to see your name.
I am living in Texas and am the mother of two boys and a girl.
I hope this reaches you.
I hope you are doing well.
I was home to PA in the spring and mom seemed good. She really took JoAnn's death hard but seem okay for the present. Jo did so much for her and she has found the strength to go on.
Aunt Edie is in poor health and living with her daughter Pat in Lancaster.
Those Yeingst/Yingst genes are hardy.
I am not consistent with my searches but have information on the original settler...I think...
I need to close for now.
Take care and write when you can.
Your cousin in Texas...Saundra

I will ask my mom to confirm about the "e" in the yeingst name.
The story I remember is that your grandfather's name was misspelled on the birth certificate and this was not corrected. Many births were at home and the information was left "as is" once it was written down.
Your grandfather is my mom's brother. She is a twin and will be 82 this September.
All of her siblings except for your grandfather had the Yeingst spelling. Your grandfather, my "Uncle Dewey" was the only one of ten children to have the Yingst spelling.
Once I complete a rough "tree" of the Yeingst/Yingst family I would be glad to share it with you. You have a large estended family in the states. If you ever come stateside, it would be great to meet you.
Feel free to email directly at...swhuntz@hotmail.com
I would love to hear about your families in Hawaii.
