Clara Helen (Yocum) Robinson (1892-1956) Chester Co, PA

I am looking for information on the husband of Clara Helen Yocum (b. 5 Jun 1892 d. 17 May 1964), daughter of Wilmer and Martha (Lowry) Yocum. Her birth record is on file in the Chester County Birth Indexes. There is a Clara H. Robinson of the same birthdate buried in the Glenmoore Methodist Church Cemetery on findagrave.com. I would like to know the husband's name and his whereabouts, and if there were any children.

I have recently been working on this family line. Charles' parents were Silas and Mary "Polly" (BITLER) YOCUM.

Children of Silas and Mary were: Daniel (23 Apr 1813-8 Feb 1886); Isaiah (1820-21 Sep 1893) m. Hannah KERNS (abt 1825-20 Sep 1879); Mary (abt 1821) m. George TURNER; Rebecca (1823-1885); Jane Ann (1828-1912); Elizabeth (abt 1832); Charles (31 Jul 1833-25 Nov 1888) m. Elizabeth A. LEWIS (1836-4 Sep 1907); William H. H. (1838-1925) m1. Elma C. HALL (1840-1888) m2. Louisa UNKNOWN (abt 1859-abt 1890).

Many of these families are buried at Glen Moore Methodist Cemetery or Fairview Presbyterian Cemetery, both in Glenmoore, Chester Co., PA.

This is an important document that identified sisters of John [1719-1761], son of Andrew Yocum [1693-1735]

Philadelphia Deed Book I-11, page 207, recites the fact that
"John Yocum, son of Andrew Yocum;
Catharine Supplee, wife of Jacob Supplee;
Margaret DeHaven, wife of Edward DeHaven; and
Deborah Buzzart, wife of Casper Buzzart
being daughters of said Andrew Yocum and descendants of the aforesaid Peter [Peterson] Yocum [of Kingsessing], by deed of 18 September 1756 released their rights to said land [part of Aronameck] to David Gibson."

I am looking for Elizabeth Yocum b. 1827, she died with typhoid fever along with several of her 13 children. I do not have a date. Her children were born between 1857 and 1878. She married James Cornelius Murphy b. 1840 in McKinney Kentucky. I descend from Mary Belle b 1873.

YOCUM was the nephew of Mary Jane YOCUM O'DELL AKERS, who was a sister of Thornton YOCUM. I wondered if you have found any more about the YOCUM family. I have been searching for a long time for any information about Phillip H. O'DELL, born around 1814, who married Mary Jane YOCUM on Sept. 23, 1839. They had one son, Clarence, before Phillip died on 25 November, 1841. He is buried in the YOCUM Cemetery, Ashmore Twp., Coles Co., IL. Mary Jane remarried to Joshua AKERS and had at least one son, Thornton. Let me know when you find your record of where he is buried. If I remember right, think he was buried in New Amsterdam, N.Y. now N.Y.C. He supposedly went there on a short trip of some kind & died while he was there.

Hi I will have to dig through My stuff to see what I can find...I have moved so many times since then I hope I can still find the infor...Are you also related to the Merserau who was an archetect in Ny a later relative of Yocum.A lot of this stuff I sent to various people with the Yocum name although they were not related they had Yocum in their family tree so I thought it better they have it then me. There was a journal from Thomas I had of his time spent in China but I have given it away already and I dont remember to who...But I might have a few things left.

I am The Great Great Grand Son of The Rev. Dr. Thomas S. Yocum. He was my Paternal GrandMother's Grandfather of which her mother was his daughter ( Elizabeth). Yes he did missionary work in China before assuming the position as Rector of St. Andrew's Church in Staten Island New York until his death in 1904. My husband is the grandson of Walter Scott Yokom/Eliza Maude Harris, Ontario, CA and I believe his father's name was Elijah. I'm not sure about any further back from there. Looking for parents of Lara or Lora Lee Fleming b. abt 1897 in Oklahoma. She married Delphus M. Yocum about 1912-13 TX.
Reference 1920 Montague Co., TX census and 1926 Henderson Co., TX where one of their children was born and 1930 Harris County, TX census. I suspect she died between 1926-1930 because Delphus remarried by 1930 to "Ola" or Margaret Iola McCullough. Would like to know where Lora Lee was buried.

Possible parents for Lara Lee Yocum are John H. Fleming and wife Lizzie, referencing 1910 Jester, Greer Co., Ok census.

Any information would be helpful.

I show that Earl Yocum was born January 3,1886, and died February 24, 1903. He died at St. Louis. This was taken from the Rossville Times, March 20, 1903.
His father, David Yocum was a brother of George A. Yocum
who lived in St. Marys, Kansas, and was married to Elizabeth Jackson.

Thanks, I have information on Garrett's children by all 3 wives. Just have not been able to find much on the Davis family. I do have a picture of Garrett, it's one my grandmother had. I'm interested in what you have on Mary Ann Davis who married Garrett Moore. I know her father was John Davis and her mother was Mary Ann Bilyeu d/o Isaac and Mary Ann Workman Bilyeu, but don't have anything beyond that, that I can document. The pictures you found of John Raimey and Minerva Paralee Moore Yochum are pictures that I sent to a cousin, she passed them on to another cousin and they both posted them to the internet. They are my grandparents. John was the son of the Martin B.Yochum who married Nancy Paralee Dye Yochum. My Martin was the s/o Jacob Yochum and Malinda Johnson. Yocum says he is divorced from Martha [Nattie Lumpkins] Yocum but on the 14 June 1900 Mrs. Martha [Nattie Lumpkins] Yocum says she has been married for 17 yrs. and she also says she has 2 live births with 2 living children. Mrs. Martha Yocum nee Lumpkins is living in New Mexico with her brother William Lumpkins with one of her sons, Earl. Martha [Lumpkins] Yocum other son Claude Yocum is living with Martha's mother's brother John Howerton in 1900.

David W. Yocum married 2nd. Rebecca J. Vorhies on 29 May 1901 in Shawnee Co., Kansas. Rebecca Vorhies was the d/o Josiah Vorhies & Paulina Quinn.

Can not find Martha [Lumpkins] Yocum after 1900 unless she remarried. Her brother William Lumpkins in 1910 was living in Stephens Co., Oklahoma, but she is no where to be found. In 1910, Claude, s/o Martha was living in Shawnee Co., Kansas with a Pendleton family as a servant and I didn't find Earl Yocum s/o Martha in 1910 either.

Any information on Martha [Lumpkins] Yocum after 1900 would be greatly appreciated.

I did some checking on the amount of money spent. A Florin is equal to two shillings. There are 20 schillings to a pound. So, 127 florins is equal to 254 schillings, which is equal to about £12.7. (Based on the British monetary system at the time) The 2008 equivalent price index would be approximately £1,425.08. The 2009 exchange rate for the US dollar would be approximately $2341.57. So, the equivalent of $2341.57 was spent. What that could buy at the time would be difficult to say as there was no regulation establishing exchange rates here in what was then a British colony.

I am looking for Oley Johnson who had a grandson named John Frederick Yocum Ivy. I think the Yocum is a family surname. Oley Johnson was born 1790 in Pa and on the 1840 census in Chester, Delaware County PA. His occupation was a Seaman. He married Sarah ca 1834 and had Elizabeth and William. He died before 1848 when Sarah married James Simmons. Do you have any information on Oley Johnson or a connection with the Yocum Johnson families?

Chester County, PA Yocum Family

Greetings all!

I am just getting started with family research!

The Yocum's in my family had a farm in Chester County, PA (maybe East Nantmeal?) The farm was in the family until the 80's, I was there once with my mom when they were getting ready to sell, but I was young and now my mom doesn't remember a lot :(

I have:

Charles Yocum born abt 1834 married Elizabeth
Children were Katherine, Minnie, and Harvey

Katherine married Walter Mull and moved to Reading, PA

Just looking for other folks who may know about the Yocum's of Chester Co, PA church, cemetary, other resources.

Please check the Enoch Reed family in Franklin County, AL. Two of Mattious Yocum's daughters married two of Reed's sons. Yocum was apparently from Mercer County, KY. Best regards!! Allen Toungette

Check out the history of the New Sweden colony in Pennsylvania, circa 1620+. Peter Jochimson, a Dane who was a co-founder of New Sweden, fathered many who were "Yokom" and "Yocum" etc. He was a translator for William Penn, Peter Stuyvesant (sic) etc during those days yet his familiar connections are Tory. I understand that a branch of this family migrated to Ontario from Pennsylvania during the American Revolutionary War because they were on the British Side.
