Jenny, My great grandmother was Susan Eugenia Yokley. She was the daughter of Hugh Yokley, brother to Sam Yokley. Your ggrandmother and my ggrandmother were first cousins and were about the same age. This may be/probably is the same line as my family. My great grand mother was Sophronia Yokley daughter of Sam Yokley who was the son of Andrew Yokley and had a brother named Hugh. In fact my family bible says my great grand parents married in the home of Hugh Yokley.

Please tell me where the Indian comes in---I would so love to know.

I just found your message and I an the great granddaughter of Sophronia Yokley --daughter of Sam Yokley and spouse of William Calvin Yokley.

I do not have a lot of information but I hope to go to Giles County soon to do more research.

I will look for grave stones etc. and in the court house when I go if I can be of help I will.

Please tell me about the possibility of Indian descent----
I have found information which shows decendency from the Powhantan? thru Veneable Brown but I know [I believe] there must a more recent Indian Ancestor.

According a source cited here, the Yokleys came to the TN/KY area from North Carolina.

My mother's mother was Florence May Bryant Nee Yokley
My mother's Father's Mother was Hester Roger Yokley

Hi! I am a descendant of Hugh Yokley, son of John & Mary Dill Yokley of Rowan Co NC. (early 1700's). Hugh & Elizabeth, son Andrew, dau, Susannah Yokley who md Thos G. English Giles County TN.
Hugh above md. Elizabeth ____,possibly Ettinger. He md 2nd Hannah Myers, widow of Christian who died 1812 Rowan Co. Any help will be welcomed. I have some information for you about Marcus G. D. Yokley (m. to Abigail Tooley). To begin with, he was born 1856 in Monroe Co., KY. I have more if you'll contact me--it's pretty long and involved to put on the message board.

Marcus (Marques) Yokley did indeed change his name-- but only for two years after a legal problem; he left North Carolina and used the name Oakley, or Okley. By the time he reached Thompkinsville, KY, however, he was once again using the Yokley name.

Samuel Yokley b. 1802 in NC

Samuel Yokley age 78, married Jane Tackwell age 26 Davidson County, NC - 1879. They appear in the 1880 Davidson County, NC - Thomasville US Census with Sam. H. Yokley age 8 (son) and Martha Locket, sister-in-law.

I would appreciate any help with this family. What became of Jane? Was her name Tackewll or Locket?

My grandfather was Foster Neal "Doc" Yokley of Akersville, KY (1-12-1894 -- 9-10-1956) I understand his parents were James T. Yokley and Lou Ella (Payne) Yokley.

Yokley, Oakley, Okley in Person Co., N.Carolina

Does anyone out there live in the Person County area? Have determined that most of the federal and even county census information from that county has never been transcribed, even the data before it was actually Person County. Must believe that in the actual church, courthouse , census, or birth records there are references to the people quite a few of us are looking for. Anyone tracking our line of Yokley's comes to a brick wall when we get to Marcus Yokley (b. 3/13/1786 --d. 6/2/1853). Am aware of a name change by this individual; think it was altered from "Oakley" (could have been another spelling, however). What we all need is for someone to find any Marcus(Marques) with a last name similar to Oakley in the relevant time period (circa 1786) in Person. North Carolinians, we need your help; the chances of my getting there from Calgary, AB, Canada anytime in the near future are slim-to-none. Also; we know Marcus did marry Nancy Lunsford (10/30/1791 - 2/16/1864) on May 15, 1809 (records show two names: Marcus Oakley and Marques Yokley). Which Yokleys from Monroe County, Ky., are you looking for? I have a bit of infor re: John Wesley Yokley, his mother, Rebecca, and his grandfather, Marques (Marcus) Yokley. Marcus came from Person County, N.C. and was married to Nancy Lunsford, also from Person (sometimes spelled Pierson). A great many of the children of John Wesley, Sr., were born, grew up, married, died, and were buried in Tomkinsville, Kentucky. There were actually 14 children from John Wesley Sr. and his wife, Nancy Ann Hammer, all of whom survived to adulthood and were married.

There are two John Wesley Yokleys in my husband's family, one born in 1838, the other in 1873. The father was born in Tennessee, the son in Kentucky. They are both buried in Tompkinsville, Kentucky. Will this help?

Hi. Glad to see some Yokeleys. My wife's mother is a Yokley. Hugh is her GGGG-grandfather, John Yokeley, GGG-grandfather, Solomon GG-grandfather, Jacob Huey Yokley G-grandfather, David Franklin Yokley grandfather, and Nancy Jane Yokley her mother.

I am searching the Yokley line. My ggmother was (Eliza) Elizabeth Yokley B. Nov.9, 1868 and D. Feb. 11, 1932. She is buried in Fountain Run KY. She married George B. Bryant B. Oct 2, 1873 D. June 9, 1948. I don't have any other information on her. I have a poem that was written for the Fountain Run Newspaper by Ellen Steen Yokley (1885-1959) a daughter named Tressie Yokley (1918-1960). My grandmother gave me the peom she had cut out of the paper years ago. The name of the poem was Fountain Run. My grandmother was Nellie Bryant (Tipton). Her mother was Eliza Yokley. Looking for relaties.

I am not sure of a connection. My gggrandmother was Eliza (Elizabeth) Yokley. She married George Bryant. They were both from Fountain Run KY, and are buried in the Lebanon Cemetary on hwy 100. I know of several other Yokley's but do not know how they are connected. Tressie, and her mother was Ellen Steen Yokley. I am not sure if Ellen could be the mother of Elizabeth. They are both buried in the Fountain Run Cemetary. Hopefully soon I wil find some connection. I have been trying for a while. Good luck in your search.

My father was Robert Lee Davis, born in Chattanoga, TN in 1926. His mother was Elizabeth. His cousin was Leon Yokely and I believe Elizabeth was Leons' sister. I am running into a dead end finding any information about my father. He died in Sacramento in 1973.

I am searching for more info on Marcus Yokley who married Abigail Jane Tooley. I have no birth or death record for Marcus, nor his parents. Abigail was born 12 May 1857 in Monroe Co. Ky. This is where most of the Yokleys are from, and I know that some of the family are buried in the Yokley Cemetary. They had four children together:
John Wesley Yokley, Charlie Yokley, Wiley Yokley, and Cora Yokley. My family starts with John Wesley Yokley who married Mollie Addy Howard. They had 8 children together:
Finley Mark, James Kenneth, Porter Edward, Pearl Oleane, Willie Ottis, Elva Dean, Elle Mae, and Geneva. My great grandfather was Willie Ottis. I have a tree that is current but I do need more info on Marcus. I found some where that we are related to the Marcus or Marques who changed his name from Oakley. If any one out there has any info for me please feel free to email me! I will share with you what I have. We have Yokley family reunions every summer. I am trying to find out as much as I can to take for next year. I am also trying to put together a book on Yokley stories. Any one who is a Yokley know that there are alot of good stories!
