I am researching my 8th great grandfather Stephen Sisney/Sesseny, a Tory from Guilford Co, NC. Around 8 May, 1766, a group of Tories were arrested in Guilford County either before or after the Moore's Creek Battle. Robertson York was among those arrested along with Stephen Sisney and taken to Frederick Town in Maryland. Others that were with this group were Kenneth Stewart, Capt. William Garner, Aaron Vardie, Capt. Lymon York, Samuel Devenny (Deviney), Frederick Croft, Capt. John Piles, John Piles Jr., Ensign Thomas Brawford (Bradford), Capt. David Jackson,and Capt. Alex McCraw.

On the 23 September 1776 several of these men "broke Goal at Frederick Town. Robertson York and my grandfather being two of the escapees. Robertson was described as a Pennyslvanian, about five feet seven or eight inches high slender made man, red hair, curled in his neck, remarkable large lips and bad teeth, is a very chattering fellow, had on a short brown coat, mixed coloured cloth jacket and leather breeches, shoes, stockings.(Information found in Journal and Correspondence of the Maryland Council of Safety, July 7-December 31, 1776. Vol. 12, p296 & 297.)

In some other information that I have from "North Carolina, Provincial Congress, 20 April 1776 - 10 May 1776, Vol. 10, p594-603" states that "Robertson York" did actually take up Arms and lead forth to War as Captain of a Company Twenty seven men for the purpose aforesaid."

Does anyone have Robertson York in your line? I am most interested in knowing if he was apprehended and where. I am attempting to find out that same information on my grandfather. I would truly appreciate hearing from you.
