Do you know any ancestors of William Brinkley... and do you know if any of his descendants have participated in the York DNA project?

Our Captain William York seemingly just sprang up out of the ground... we cannot find any other York family to match, and its quite an unusual haplogroup - J2 - its possible, more than likely probable, that William was the young son of a widow who married in one of the York families - perhaps Joseph, son of Jeremiah... however he was not Joseph's son! Also we believe he was born in Virginia, not N.C.

Thanks - you can email me - dsanfilippo303@comcast.net
John Henry York b. 1834 NC was my g-g-grandfather. I show 8 children but no Williaqm Brinkley York. He had a son named John Thomas York. Another son George Washington York of Lindale waqs my g-grandfather. I cannot identify Williamm Brinkley as being one of his children. Of course I may have missed one. There was at least one other family of York's in the Lindale area who apparantly were not related. I cannot help you except to say it is likely that John Henry York was not his father. You can contact me at felix@embarqmail.com if you wish. I live near Tyle and will keep an eye out for himr.

Hello,

Iam told by my uncle who i video taped his conversation with that we are 3rd generation cousin's to Sgt York. he put it this way...His grand father and sgt york's father were cousins. I have the metal (southern cross) that has been in our family for years from given to him by the "daughters of the confederates" with the initials J A York...Joseph Abraham York known as Capt Joe York. After the war our history reads that he stayed in Tenessee and lived with his relatives which included relatives of Alvin C York. Sure would like to verify this! Thank you!!

William Brinkley York

I am looking for any relatives of William Brinkley York of Lindale, Texas. He was my grandfather. There were several York's listed in Lindale census, but I have found no way to connect them. My father, Robert Earl York was only son of W.B. York and no-one who would know is still alive. I believe that John Henry York was father to my grandfather, and to Thomas York and James York (all lived in Lindale, TX) Could someone from those families let me know if I am correct in my asumption that John Henry York was father to William Brinkley York. William B. York, born 1874 and died 1929. I would appreciate any info. Thank you.

My records show that Mary Katharine's parents are William York born in 1817 and Priscilla Hawkins born in 1821. She had four brothers named Joseph (1840); John (1841); William Silas (June 1843); and Charles E. (Jan 1852) These names and dates are "to the best of my knowledge" as I gathered and pieced together information from various sources.

I'd love to exchange information with anyone who has anything to add or subtract from my data.

Here's the family connection:

William York -> Thomas Singleton York -> Margaret Ophelia York -> Fannie Lee Davis -> James Earl Roberts -> James Gordon Roberts -> Benjamin Andrew Roberts

I'd also love to see any old York family photos you all may have. I have some of Margaret Ophelia, and some York tombstone pictures.

Benjamin Roberts
Tyler, TX
This line you cited starts similar to one in my records, but then is clearly different. I start with Archibald F. York b. 19 Jun 1811,(almost the same but not exact birthdate) m. Zerilda (Sarah) Watts. Then:
Ezekiel York, Sr. abt 1758 Frederic Co, Va m. Mary Watts
Jerimiah York, Sr. abt 1730 Frederick Co, VA m. Mary Thomas

Then we differ. I have next
John York, b 1704 Spotsylvania, VA
followed in sequence (backwards) through John, Wm, Wm, Edward, Henry, and John, to Richard b. abt 1460 in England.

Can anyone confirm either of these lines as correct?

There were several Yorks who were descended from Jerimiah York Jr that move together to Crawford Co, IL. I have an Elijah b. abt 1805 in KY, who married Cecilia S. (Lealy) Waldrop. This is not the Elijah you mentioned, but possibly he or one of his brothers is the father of the one you want as families often repeated given names. Do you know when your Elijah was born and who his father was?

I can go back with certainty to Joshua York born 1820 KY married to Nancy Ginn, (I think she was born 1823 KY) by following their census records. Joshua and Nancy lived in Indiana their whole adult lives, there is another Joshua and Nancy York living in Kentucky and else where but this is not them. Unable to prove his parents for sure, they were married in Franklin County Indiana but I don't have any records of this yet. I can find several York's who could be his father and Ginns who could be her father. Nancy Ginn York and her brother John Ginn are buried beside each other at Anderson Cemetery in Indianapolis the cemetery has no other information except records showing the owner of the plots is my grgrandfather John Edgar York and there are no headstones. Probably distroyed many years ago. Stephanie

The older original records of Grainger Co were removed from the courthouse to make room for newer records and stored at an abandoned school in Rutledge. I was told about this while visiting the courthouse a number of years ago. From what I was told the older records were not properly taken care of and therefore were in terrible condition. I was not able to visit the school. While I would need to look, I believe that I found the record of the will in the State records. I descend from Semore Jr as well, through his 2nd wife Ann Elizabeth Wood.

Re: Sgt. Alvin C. York connection?

I am trying to find out how Alvin C. York was kin to Daniel Boone or any of the other Boones/De Bohuns. I noticed that Alvin was listed as a relative in the book "Boone/Bohun Family of America". I would really like to know how I am kin to Alvin - he is one of my favorit heros!
If anyone has any info. please email me at mrs.tiggywinkle2007@gmail.com

Thanks!

Re: Brantly York Son of ELI YORK

sorry, I hit a wrong key and posted before I was finished...

Henry B. York, abt. Aug. 6, 1730 (I put June by mistake)
Eli York, abt. Aug. 15, 1771.
children of Eli York:
Harden abt. 1790-1794
Mary 'Polly' abt. 1793
Hiram abt. 1796
Hannah, abt.1793
Sarah 'Sallie' abt. 1802
William M. abt. 1803
Richard Brantly, Jan. 3, 1805
John Wesley, Apr. 25, 1807
Jemima abt. 1810
Ara, birth ?
John Wesley York married Sarah Jane Hall, both are buried at York Chapel Church in the Hilliardston Community, Griffins township in Nash County, N.C. along with others. William M. (Marshall or Montgomery, we've found it listed both ways) was instrumental in the building of York Chapel, riding the country side collecting donations. John Wesley is my great grandfather. His daughter, Louisa married Sidney C. Mallory.
I know dates can be incorrect but this is what I have, also have info on the families, picture of York Chapel and the history...it is located about 7 miles from where I live. You may e-mail me directly at: macksplace1925@suddenlink.net. Thanks, Ann McKinney
